Questions or Comments: Slip It In Here!
I’ll use this restrained bolding pattern for Buzzsprout descriptions going forward.
First dates can go from awkward to alarming remarkably fast. Matty, Megan and JJ unpack some of the wildest BuzzFeed dating-horror stories and identify the red flags that should send someone straight toward the exit. Matty and Megan also share their own first-date fiascos, involving a kids-menu PB&J eaten with a knife and fork, butterflies released to Céline Dion and fruit-flavored Tic Tacs served like bar snacks.
Then Matty introduces his latest Best Bet—the EOAT adjustable dumbbell set—before the conversation turns to online resale shopping, questionable return strategies, the Running of the Bulls, Grindr’s expensive AI membership and the espresso martini-and-fries pairing that may have become a summer tradition.
In this episode:
• First-date horror stories and the red flags that turn awkward into alarming
• A buffet, a forgotten wallet and a liquor-store escape plan
• Dessert pressure, unexpected belly rubbing and an invitation to meet Mom
• Matty’s Plenty of Fish date featuring PB&J, butterflies and crème brûlée
• Megan’s speakeasy date with Tic Tacs, cigarettes and one very slow beer
• Matty’s Best Bet: adjustable dumbbells for home workouts and travel
• Poshmark, Depop, ThredUp, The RealReal and the online resale rabbit hole
• Running of the Bulls reactions and the risks tourists willingly take
• Espresso martinis with fries and Grindr’s premium AI-powered Edge membership

[Theme song fades under Megan’s opening]
Megan (00:23): Welcome, welcome, welcome, everyone. We are back, slipping it in with you. I’m Megan.
JJ (00:27): I am JJ.
Matty (00:27): I am Matty.
00:30 — Matty’s Dateline Shirt and Keith Morrison Obsession
Megan (00:30): Hello, hello. Wow, I love this shirt, Matty.
Matty (00:34): Thank you. I love it as well.
JJ (00:36): I like that retro. It is retro.
Matty (00:38): I'm gonna show for if you're watching on video, I'm gonna show it.
JJ (00:41): Don't show too much because you're not wearing pants tonight.
Matty (00:44): Oh actually, uh I was gonna read it to y'all, but now I gotta like, okay. So if if I go missing, I want Keith Morrison to talk about how much how I light up a room. Who is Keith Morrison again?
Megan (01:03): Oh, Dateline. Or Matthew Perry's stepdad, however you talk about it.
Matty (01:09): Well, both, but Dateline, you the white-haired guy when he's like, or is it told me about what has happened? I love Keith Morrison. I do choose. So this shirt, as my as the listeners know, I'm a huge Dateline fan, and Dateline puts me to bed every night.
JJ (01:29): And this shirt So you intentionally went to Amazon and just searched Keith Morrison shirts? No. I was just Dateline merch.
Megan (01:38): Oh, it's a it is Dateline merch.
Matty (01:40): You know why we went to New York? You couldn't. I was just gonna say that's why. And you know what? The last episode, I think I talked about this as well. I often will click a pick of something I liked. I didn't see this shirt there, but they had some Dateline merch. I didn't want to spend the Dateline merch pricing in the NBC store in New York. So then I was going through my photos, I saw that photo, and it inspired me to get online and search for some Dateline stuff. And then that's how we are, where we are today.
02:11 — Chris Hansen, To Catch a Predator and Michigan Crime Talk
Megan (02:11): I'm also um a big uh Chris Hansen fan. Say so and he is a Michigan fan.
Matty (02:17): He's the one that did the whole To Catch a Predator.
Megan (02:20): He's still doing it and he works. Yes, and he works with the I don't sometimes.
JJ (02:25): I don't know if he's interested on it, on the story.
Matty (02:29): He's married.
JJ (02:30): What are you insinuating when he's telling a story? I don't know if he's interested in the story or he's just like excited about it. Because sometimes, like, tell me about it.
Megan (02:42): No, let me tell you.
JJ (02:43): To Catch a Predator, yeah.
Megan (02:45): He's married to a woman, Gabrielle Hansen, and they live here in Birmingham, Michigan. I'm trying to get them on the pod.
Matty (02:53): Oh.
Megan (02:54): So they're my like. Well, we might have to cut out what JJ just said then.
JJ (02:58): I you're taking it the wrong way. I'm not saying that he's interested in the story like he wants to be involved on it. But I'm like, how really are you as an interviewer involved in the story? Are you finding interesting, the details of the story, or are you just bored by it?
Matty (03:14): Well, that's kind of what I didn't I didn't think that in the beginning, but then the second time I did pick up on that. But that would be something if Chris just heard would be like, I'm not coming back.
JJ (03:23): I think it's a persona from him as an interviewer. Like, I think that that is why he he is as good as he is. I I don't I don't think that is on the track that you're trying to get in.
Megan (03:34): Well, he I support him in what he's doing, and I love it.
Matty (03:37): Oh, me too. I didn't really know they were still doing that. I thought there was actually some scandal around that whole piece over time because of entrapment and just like that type of television. That I thought they stopped doing it.
Megan (03:50): Well, he's still actively working with police, he has his own channel.
Matty (03:55): Oh, that's right. Yeah, that's right. So it's no longer like a NBC or whatever syndicated program, but he has his own production.
Megan (04:03): And it's streaming, so it's his own streaming channel that's streaming crime stuff that he regularly is on with his shows. He also has a podcast.
JJ (04:12): Oh, he does.
Megan (04:13): Oh yes. And I'm hoping to like maybe run into him out and about around town.
Matty (04:19): He would be a really fascinating guest.
Megan (04:20): And his wife his wife is really great too. So I love them.
04:24 — BuzzFeed Dating Horror Stories Begin
Megan (04:24): Anyway, let's get back to what we're talking about today. I want to tell everyone if you haven't seen it, BuzzFeed regularly asks its community and Reddit users about their dating horror stories, first date nightmares, or wild dating app stories. And then they report on them on their website. And boy, are they doozies. So Matty and JJ, you're in the dating world.
JJ (04:47): Some are a little bit crazy.
Megan (04:48): Like it's just they're crazy. Yes. And you guys are in the dating world as are lots of our friends. So we're always like talking about these stories.
JJ (04:55): Dating as in going on dates.
Megan (04:57): Well, yes, that's the meaning of dating. And we wanted to share some of them with you because they're just like good reminders of the red flags to watch out for, and that even when you have a bad date, there's so many worse out there. Good, bad, or otherwise. I don't know. I don't want to scare people off from dating because I do think everyone, you know, we're it is discouraging sometimes.
JJ (05:21): Yeah, yeah.
Megan (05:22): But we're meant to be, I think, not alone in life. We're meant to have people in our lives, partners, friends, etc.
Matty (05:31): So yeah, but it does make you question it after you read some of these stories.
Unclear (05:35): Yeah.
Matty (05:36): Like, I don't know if I need that. Yeah, go ahead.
Megan (05:38): Well, start off.
05:39 — First-Date Red Flags: Bra Mom, Buffet Drama and McDonald’s
Matty (05:39): This first one, speaking of red flags, there are a million all over all over the play.
JJ (05:45): Banners, not flags, it's just banners.
Matty (05:47): I honest to God don't know if I can get through reading the whole thing without stopping. You guys might have a challenge. Let's do our best. I'm gonna read it, I'm gonna read the whole story, yeah, and then let's dissect the 10 to 12 red flags on the play. Yes. Okay. I went on a first date with a guy I knew from middle school after not seeing him for about six years or so. I picked him up, and his mom answered in her bra. The house was filthy, and when we arrived at the buffet, he said he forgot his wallet, so I paid. He ate three plates, then demanded his money back and made a huge scene. He pocketed the money I had paid and then asked if I wanted McDonald's instead.
Megan (06:42): I can't.
Matty (06:43): I drove through the drive-thru and he offered to pay with the cash he got refunded.
Megan (06:50): That's too much.
Matty (06:51): He then suggested we go bowling. But I was desperate to be done.
Megan (06:57): Yes, I would be.
Matty (06:58): He asked me to buy him cigarettes and a 40.
Unclear (07:03): What?
Matty (07:04): And I said no. I wasn't 21, yet he said he'd shoulder tap. I left him at the liquor store and never talked to him again. He also told me I should get implants, do porn, and invest in his drug business.
Megan (07:20): Oh my god.
Matty (07:21): That's too much. I mean, too much to even like that's a 40, by the way. Uh like um it's a big beer, a 40 ouncer. So it's but they the lingo is let's drink a 40. It's 40 ounces of one beer. You have I seen those? Yeah, well, we haven't paid attention to them. They they're in the cooler section.
Megan (07:41): Yeah, and I mean, I would say it was something we would do like in the 90s, like it was kind of cool to have a 40 in a brown paper bag. Well, we were we were babies using yeah, we were using fake IDs to or shoulder tapping, which this was a new term I've never heard of.
Matty (08:00): I had to look that up, JJ. So you weren't the only one. Does JJ know it? Yeah, Matty and Megan didn't either. I love that. Well, we did do it. So it so you know what it is? It is um when somebody stands outside and while you go in and buy for that person. So it's like I'll stay and go.
Megan (08:23): No, no, you're ta you're underage and you're asking someone who's of age outside a liquor store to buy cigarettes or alcohol for you.
Matty (08:31): So see, I still don't know what it is. Right.
Megan (08:33): It's a so and we would do that when we were younger.
Matty (08:36): Okay.
Megan (08:37): I well, my girlfriends and I. So we would look for like younger, more attractive men walking into the liquor store and be like, Oh, you well, the attractiveness is part of it. Well, no, we would that's who we would. Oh, you would pick on that young target, underage girls. Well, I mean, we knew we we couldn't pick this older man who looked like a grandfather because he probably wouldn't buy for us. But we thought a young man like recently turned 21, yeah, kind of cute. We flirt a little. Hi, how are you?
Matty (09:09): And then But I would dare say if they were a little bit more homely, they might even be more excited to support you because they're like, oh, these pretty girls are yeah. I guess it going either way.
Megan (09:20): We maybe also were looking to, if we thought it were cute, maybe it could go for it, go into something else. So we were trying to do two birds with one stone.
Matty (09:29): What would you guys do right this day if someone tried to shoulder tap? No, you you would do the same. Meaning if a young person targeted you, JJ, to say, would you go in and get me a four? I would not.
Megan (09:42): No, I wouldn't. It's there's too many risks.
Matty (09:45): Yeah, nowadays it's too much.
Megan (09:47): Back in the 90s, I feel like there weren't as many laws, there weren't as many problems with it nowadays.
Matty (09:53): What would you do if okay? So I'm gonna put this into a little bit of perspective because this person said they weren't 21. So he probably wasn't either, especially since he was trying to get her to go in. So I can see why they might be living with their parents. Yes. However, uh what would you do if you went to pick up your date and that date's mom answered the door in her bra?
Megan (10:18): Yeah, no.
JJ (10:19): I would ask her, is this a Shannon Beador's um bra that you have on?
Megan (10:24): Yeah. Chances are it was not.
Matty (10:26): Chances are this was not a Shannon Beador.
JJ (10:30): Or is this an episode of Hoarders?
Megan (10:32): Well, I will say on a first date, I would normally not pick someone up, but I get that this was someone they knew from like grade school. So I would be open if it was someone I knew from like high school.
JJ (10:43): You'd be fine with the bra.
Megan (10:45): No, I'd be fine with picking them up because like I feel like we have a connection with knowing each other.
Matty (10:51): Yeah, let's get to the bra.
Megan (10:53): I the bra would be an I mean immediately I'd be questioning the bra set. It's a red flag. Then the filthy house, two red flags.
JJ (11:02): So many red flags.
Megan (11:03): Well, but I wouldn't end the date right there.
Matty (11:05): I would say it would be hard to end it to be like I can't date. Especially with someone you've known your whole life.
Megan (11:11): Yeah, they've been in school with you since like elementary school. So yeah, I would still keep going.
Matty (11:17): Was it a lace bra or like just JJ? I don't have the bra details.
Megan (11:21): I feel like what they wrote.
Matty (11:23): I feel also like you're really like, is it a Shannon Beador? Is it a lace? It's a bra, and you shouldn't be answering your door when your date, no, when your like a look when your daughter's date is about to arrive and pick her up.
JJ (11:38): It's a bonding situation. You're like, oh wait.
Matty (11:40): All right, okay. Well, I was what about the buffet?
Megan (11:44): Yeah, I was taking it. She had the son.
Matty (11:47): Was it Chinese? The mom is your question.
Megan (11:49): The mom and her bra had the son.
Matty (11:52): Wait, what?
Megan (11:53): I thought it was a girl picking a boy.
Matty (11:55): It was.
Megan (11:56): Yeah.
Unclear (11:56): Yeah.
Megan (11:57): So the mom was a son.
Matty (11:59): Either way. I'm sorry. But either way, whoever you're picking up, they could have a mother answering the door in a bra.
Megan (12:05): Yes. So I wouldn't hold it against my date, but I would be clocking it.
JJ (12:10): Yeah, 100%. I would probably even ask.
Matty (12:13): I'm on to the buffet, you guys. I'm on. You guys are repeating yourself on the bra, and I'm on to buffets.
Megan (12:19): Let's move to buffet.
Matty (12:20): I'm not gonna do a date. Now, again, I don't know when this was. Yeah. Buffets have had their moment. Actually, I don't know if you've seen the news. They are making a comeback, and buffets are trending.
Unclear (12:32): Okay.
JJ (12:32): Okay. I haven't been in a buffet in a long time. Buffet.
Matty (12:37): I love a brunch. I love a brunch. Well, I saw your smile when you were about to say the accent. But it sounded like an invitation for me to come. No, it was not.
JJ (12:48): It was not.
Matty (12:49): It wasn't while you smiled. You're like, I'm gonna say the word.
JJ (12:51): Because I can I need to smile.
Matty (12:54): Well, I don't think that I would want even then. I'm going buffet date.
Megan (13:00): I'm not I'm not against a buffet. I'm okay.
Matty (13:04): On a date, on a first date, you want to go to a buffet.
Megan (13:06): It's weird. It would be a clock. I would be clocking that.
Matty (13:11): Clocking that.
Megan (13:12): It's the third one. So already.
Matty (13:15): What do you mean the third one?
Megan (13:16): Meaning bra, filthy house. Now, now I'm on the buffet.
Matty (13:20): What do you mean?
JJ (13:23): You started the story saying there is multiple wells.
Matty (13:26): So now I've got three. He also got the story he went up to the buffet three times. So to me, that's another red one.
Megan (13:33): Well, buffets, I go up to buffet.
Matty (13:35): Twice max on a date.
Megan (13:38): Well, but you're three plates. Let me tell you what I do on a buffet though. I don't, you know, I don't like my food touching. So I often have multiple plates with only like two or three items on them. So I'm not gonna clock him for the three times, but let me tell you, three flags already. I don't know if we're getting a second date. So we're we're just in the beginning.
JJ (14:02): So in a buffet, you have three different plates with different things.
Megan (14:06): Or maybe four or five.
Matty (14:08): Because she doesn't like any of her food to touch. So I'll have often's in you don't seem to be a match made in heaven.
Megan (14:14): Oh, I love them.
Unclear (14:16): I love them.
JJ (14:17): There is one like a pizza buffet. Oh, yeah. Pizza Hut. Used to do it. Well, Pizza Hut used to do it. Yeah, yeah, 100%.
Megan (14:25): I would love to find it. COVID killed the buffet. They did.
Matty (14:28): Oh, they did. COVID killed it because of all the, you know, like the sneeze guards and the reaching under and handling all the stuff. But now we're that's further in the rear view and they're coming back. They're still in Vegas.
JJ (14:40): I used to live in Windsor, and uh Caesars has one of the best casino. Yeah, yeah, one of the best ever.
Matty (14:50): I do I used to love like a Mother's Day or Father's Day at like a fancy hotel. Me too. No, that's good.
Megan (14:57): I love that.
Matty (14:58): But old country buff. No, no, I'm not interested.
Megan (15:01): Or is it Sizzler or Ponderosa?
JJ (15:03): Sizzler. I don't know if Ponderosa's existed. Talking about throwback.
Megan (15:07): I know.
JJ (15:08): Ponderosa, Sizzler.
Matty (15:10): I feel like this guy has a chance with you.
Megan (15:14): Uh no, no, no, no, no, no. I would say he's three flags in. He's got a high bar to get a second date because I'm already one foot out the door figuring out how to do it.
Matty (15:23): How many flags do you need? Typically, not about this. I'm taking it away from this particular situation. I'm two red flags, and I think I wouldn't go on an in my mind. Yes. If I'm on the date and I have a one red flag, I'm taking a note. You're clocking. Yeah. I'm taking a note.
Megan (15:41): 100.
Matty (15:41): A second red flag. I don't think there's a second date for me. No, it's a block.
JJ (15:47): It's a block.
Megan (15:48): Probably not for me either. Then the third, I would actively be getting out of the date. So the fact that I wouldn't have done the McDonald's drive-thru. I would have said, no, sorry. I've got to get home.
JJ (16:01): Some 20 piece chicken nuts.
Megan (16:03): Well, for you, maybe JJ, but you know I'm the anti-nugget. And I thought you were too. But you keep going back to I how do we get them away from those nuggets, Matty?
JJ (16:14): And JJ is like, and nobody, the sleepers know this, don't know this, but we tried the crown-shaped Burger King nuggets.
Matty (16:22): The Burger King crowns, and JJ liked them better. Two flags is a block, but I'm still getting my nuggets. Yes, I'm getting my nuggets.
Megan (16:29): I would not do the drive-thru. And I don't know. It doesn't, I can't tell if she went bowling or not.
Matty (16:35): She did not go bowling. It's my assumption.
Megan (16:38): I would go to.
Matty (16:39): Well, bowling in general for you would be a red flag.
JJ (16:43): Because you do not like. Yes, she will be like, that's a hard note.
Megan (16:46): I you're a bowling lover, Matty.
Matty (16:49): I don't necessarily love it for a date, though.
Megan (16:52): Yeah.
Matty (16:53): Not a first date.
Unclear (16:54): Okay.
Matty (16:54): I would especially after what has transpired. And this is where I don't understand how people don't have any self-reflection. Like this man had to pass by his bra mom. Yeah. And then had to fight at the buffet to get the money back, which she paid for and he pocketed. Like, where's your self awareness to think that this woman is going to want to go bowling with you?
Megan (17:23): Well, I'm kind of questioning like, was he a large man? Because he had three plates at the buffet, and now he's a big thing. Now you're asking JJ questions. Now he's off to McDonald's. Well, I don't know. Well, that's a lot of food. That's a lot of food.
JJ (17:36): This is a body positive podcast.
Megan (17:38): Okay. Well, and I just said I'd have like five plates of the buffet, so I'm no one to judge.
Matty (17:43): Yeah, it was three plates of food and a drive-thru.
JJ (17:46): Well, talking about this, it reminds me of a story that I have for us.
Megan (17:51): Oh, okay. Go ahead.
JJ (17:53): And I'm gonna read the details of this. And I want to get your is this a date? Yeah, it's a date. A date you have or from BuzzFeed? No, a BuzzFeed.
Matty (18:03): Well, before we move on to your date, can we just all agree this date? No second date.
Megan (18:09): A hundred percent. Yes, a hundred. I mean, I can't believe that's even a question. Yeah.
Matty (18:14): I just wanted it for the record.
Megan (18:16): Okay.
Megan (18:16): Yeah.
18:17 — He Rubbed Her Belly on a First Date
JJ (18:17): So she's telling us I ate my dessert and he gave me his as soon as I was done with mine. He hadn't touched his.
Megan (18:27): Wow.
JJ (18:28): And prompted me to eat it. So he said, please go ahead.
Megan (18:34): Oh.
JJ (18:34): Eat more.
Megan (18:35): Oh.
JJ (18:36): I didn't think hard about it and figured that he just didn't want his. So I ate it.
Megan (18:43): Wow. I wouldn't have.
JJ (18:45): Then he proceeded to lean over the table and started rubbing my belly.
Megan (18:51): Oh, telling me I look so good. Oh god.
JJ (18:56): While eating my dessert.
Megan (18:57): Oh, oh my god. No.
JJ (18:58): When I was bloated and he said, You look so pretty. I left when I I left. There was a moment that she's like, I'm I'm leaving this.
Matty (19:11): Good for her.
JJ (19:12): But she's like, I left when he then invited me back to his house to meet his mom.
Megan (19:17): Oh, God. Another mother. Another mother. No.
JJ (19:21): That's why I bring in this story because it's just tied to anything.
Matty (19:24): Yeah, and good good thing she didn't take his ass through McDonald's. She's like, we're done here. He needs a feeder. I think he's a feeder. I agree. 100%.
JJ (19:32): He's a feeder, man. A feeder.
Matty (19:34): Yes.
JJ (19:34): Well, it's an HBO Max show happening. Do you know what a feeder is? I sure do.
Matty (19:40): Yes. Well, I'm not I'm not sure everybody knows what a feeder is.
JJ (19:43): Yeah. A feeder is somebody that sometimes sexually will feed on his partner or his couple. Feed on them. Feed. Oh. Feedback. And give them food on the sense of getting some gratification out of it. It's a turn on. It's a turn-on for them. There is actually a show on HBO Max. Uh, it's called Biggs Girls Big Girls Wanted. And it's it's actually the preview. It's a feed from ID channel that is actually now in uh HBO Max. And it's all about men that want to feed on women.
Megan (20:24): Well, don't not feed on them. They want large, they're attracted to large women, and they get a sense of like gratification of feeding them to make them bigger.
JJ (20:37): Yeah, but I don't want to go into the size of the individual, but more of the act of it. But it's something that is it's a kink, really. Sure.
Unclear (20:47): Yes.
JJ (20:47): For many of this men that want to go into it. And it's funny because Andy and John were talking about it on SiriusXM. And because Andy feels that he might be sometimes a little feeder. I mean, and I think that we've all been in relationship when if I'm snacking on something, I'm not gonna be snacking on my like by myself. Like I'm No, crack. You want them?
Megan (21:10): Do you want to try this?
JJ (21:11): Do you want to try this? We do that often with the three of us. Yes, absolutely. Megan, how many snacks? She's a feeder.
Megan (21:18): She's a feeder.
Matty (21:20): She asked females to snacks. Look at there is a table. If you go to her house, she's a feeder.
Megan (21:26): I'm a caretaker.
Matty (21:27): Oh.
Megan (21:28): That's different. I don't want you to get large. I'm not trying to make you bigger. I don't get any sexual gratification from feeding you. I am trying to make sure you're taken care of and comfortable.
Matty (21:42): I kind of maybe I don't know all of the ins and outs of these feeders. And then maybe there are two components. But I did think it was just like watching them eat and seeing them eat. And but it's probably about I don't know.
JJ (21:56): But it's not I think it's all about power and control.
Megan (21:59): Oh, really?
JJ (22:00): Yes, I think so.
Megan (22:01): Oh, you think that's what wow. I didn't even think of it in that.
JJ (22:05): I'm telling you, I am bringing a plate with snacks. I mean, you guys love, you know, that I love a charcuterie board.
Megan (22:13): Yeah, and I love one too.
JJ (22:14): Yeah, but you're not rubbing my belly. So with this, on a date, yeah.
Megan (22:21): No.
JJ (22:21): Like, you're like, and and and this here's the thing. She just finished her dessert, and he's like, you know what? I'm gonna give you mine.
Matty (22:31): I am shocked, not this is all bad on him, but I am surprised most girls or women or a man. Really, you try to like present yourself in a certain way. I don't most people are not gonna eat the other person's dessert at the table. I would have one bite.
Megan (22:50): I'd say I'll have one bite. I would always try. It'll be cute.
Matty (22:54): What if it's the same? I got the impression it's the same dessert. Well, we don't know. We don't know that.
Megan (23:00): I wouldn't even touch it. And honestly, on a first date, I wouldn't even get a dessert. If they really wanted one or ordered one, I'd be like, Well, I'll have a bite of yours.
Matty (23:10): Okay. I have. Can I talk about a story of my yeah? Yeah. Okay. Do you want to close your story? Yeah, 100%. Do you want to close your story? Are we going on a second date with this feeder? We're not. We're not. No. No. Especially if you have to robbing my belly.
Megan (23:24): No, I agree. Touching anything on a first date is very like, okay, I take no. Oh, he's touching my knee or he's touching my arm.
Matty (23:33): Or rubbing your belly.
Megan (23:35): Touching my belly, even in a relationship, unless I'm pregnant, I don't want to. And then I don't even want that. No, that's a whole other discussion. But if you're a child, that's not a good idea.
JJ (23:44): Just imagine him.
Megan (23:46): Randall's rubbing your pregnant belly.
JJ (23:49): But imagine him rubbing your belly.
Megan (23:51): Look at me.
JJ (23:55): Megan, I'm gonna go back to the cabin. Look at me.
Megan (23:57): I don't want it.
JJ (23:58): And I'm like, you look so good.
Megan (24:00): No. I mean, I would probably immediately say, I gotta go home. Like, I can't. Like that freaks me out.
Matty (24:06): Yeah. No. So speaking of I can't.
24:10 — Matty’s Plenty of Fish Date: PB&J, Butterflies and Crème Brûlée
Matty (24:10): So this made me recall a date I went on, and there's dessert involved. The dessert is what triggered my me to think about this, but I'm gonna not start at the dessert part. So I do you guys remember um there was an app, I don't know if it still exists, but it was like plenty oh fish.
Megan (24:29): Oh, it's still out there. Is it oh yeah?
JJ (24:31): Is it really?
Megan (24:32): It's a crazy, it's a little sex forward of an app. Okay, but it's still out there because I was on it at one point.
Matty (24:37): Okay, and I got one. Well, I didn't feel sexy people forward at the time I was on it, but this was 10, 12, 15 years ago. I don't know. You're maybe and it was free. Yeah.
Megan (24:49): Yeah, it's free.
Matty (24:50): I was shoulder tapping people. I was so young. Anyway, so first mistake, and I know this is gonna set you off, Megan. Oh, God. I learned a lesson. I will never do it again. I think JJ will not like it either, but I agreed to have the person come to my house and we would ride together and ride together. Yeah, that's a hard note. I didn't invite him up. I met him when he arrived and we went in one cup. Still never, ever, ever again will we do that.
Megan (25:20): I agree. You never do that. That is the biggest out of all the dating 101. Never have them pick you up on a first date.
Matty (25:28): No, I he drove to my place, no, parked. I drove. So at least I was in control of the car.
Unclear (25:34): Okay, fine.
JJ (25:35): But he knows already your address. Yeah, where you live.
Matty (25:38): He can stalk you. It was a big faux pas.
JJ (25:42): I'm willing to move on.
Matty (25:43): Okay. We went to a relatively nice restaurant, not super fancy, but not like your Applebee's. And when we were there, he ordered a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Megan (25:57): Wait, did they was it on the menu?
Matty (25:58): On the kids' menu. Oh.
Megan (26:01): He ordered a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I have followed the show. What restaurant was that?
Matty (26:05): I'm not gonna disclose. You are familiar with it.
JJ (26:08): It's well, if they have a menu, a kid's menu.
Matty (26:12): It was in Ferndale.
Megan (26:14): Okay.
Matty (26:14): Wow.
Megan (26:15): But so there were like uh like he could have ordered like a chicken tender, a hamburger, mac and cheese, you should check. There's so many options if you're I get people being picky eaters, but that's ridiculous.
Matty (26:27): He ate it with a knife and fork.
Megan (26:29): Wait, stop. Before you even get there, some restaurants won't even let you order from the kids' menu. Did the waitress give him a waiter?
Matty (26:38): It was an awkward, very awkward moment.
Megan (26:40): Did they try to say no, you can't order that?
Matty (26:42): They're like, sir, that's from the kids' menu. He's like, I I know, but I have food allergies, and they ended up just oh, so the reason was food allergies. I don't know if it's true or not.
JJ (26:52): Yeah, I think that the out the bait motive was the sexual potential sexual after, and he probably wanted to bottom at the end.
Matty (27:00): What? I can't with that comment. What? JJ. He wanted to go light. No.
Megan (27:06): Why wouldn't you pick a salad or a soup then?
Matty (27:10): PB&J. Okay.
Megan (27:13): That doesn't seem light to me. That seems kind of heavy.
Matty (27:16): He ate it with a fork and that's crazy.
Megan (27:18): I mean, that which to me it was like I'm not, I'm not this is three red flags. I'm out. Again, I would be trying to get out of the way.
Matty (27:25): This is why I need to write into this BuzzFeed. Yes. You should. So here's the thing. I think in his mind, he's like, I in his mind, so this he wasn't saying this out loud. Yeah. I'm putting words in his mouth. But in my thoughts were he knows he ordered a child's thing, but he's gonna eat it as if it's an adult.
Megan (27:43): Well, that's just weird. That makes it even weirder. Like it's one thing to order a PB&J on a first date. That's weird to begin with. Like I would already be like red flag, but then to try to act like it's a real meal, no, eat it like a sandwich that it is.
Matty (27:57): So here's Did he hit a glass of milk with it? Here is the Did he have a drink? I don't remember. It was a wine bar. So wine. Well, wine bars. That narrows it down. Okay. So um listen to the dinner conversation, which was the final straw. So I don't know how we got on the topic, but he started to talk about a previous relationship he had with his boyfriend and how he broke up with him and he was devastated by it. He found a place online that would sell you a box of butterflies. He ordered a box of butterflies, and then went and he told me, he goes, and then what I did is I went out and I sat in my garden and I was listening to Celine Dion. Yeah, and I opened the box and released the butterflies into the air to symbolize letting go of that relationship.
JJ (29:02): Somewhat. I'm now so comfortable with the PB&J.
Unclear (29:06): Yeah.
Matty (29:07): I know. That is not I didn't even when I was sitting there, I'm like, man, am I is this for real? I would yeah, where are the cameras?
Megan (29:18): So then did you like, how did you get end the day and get back?
Matty (29:22): This is the dessert part.
Megan (29:24): Oh, you got dessert with him?
Matty (29:25): No, I didn't. They came and asked for dessert and he said, Oh, yeah, I think so. He ordered crème brûlée, which I can't what about these allergies? And he ate it with a fork. crème brûlée with the fork?
Megan (29:40): Or did they bring a spoon with the crème brûlée when they served it? You have to crack it.
Matty (29:54): I'm like, now he's using a fork to make this crème brûlée. Yeah.
Megan (29:58): Did he offer you some?
Matty (29:59): So I don't remember all those.
Megan (30:02): Well, that's also critical, too.
Matty (30:04): I wouldn't have taken it because I don't like crème brûlée.
Megan (30:06): You wouldn't have done a bite.
Matty (30:08): No.
Megan (30:08): Not even one.
Matty (30:09): I said at the table, I said, are you I think it's obvious this is Oh, you even said that.
Megan (30:17): I would never I would have just gotten out quick and never done.
JJ (30:21): So proud of you.
Matty (30:22): I drove him there. Yes. Well, I know, but I wouldn't have from his cars at my house. I know, but I said to him, We're not a match. I said, obviously, I think you can agree, we're not a match here.
JJ (30:33): Did he have at that point?
Matty (30:35): So when we why don't we settle the check and I'll drive you back to my place so you can pick up your car? And he's like, okay. And that's all he said.
Megan (30:44): Now, did you split it or did you pay for it?
Matty (30:46): I don't remember that detail easily. Oh my god.
Megan (30:48): Well, I don't know critical details.
Matty (30:50): Well, really? Yeah. They are critical. I don't know. I would have paid anything to get out of there. Yeah, no, exactly. Well, that was my point of like that. I mean, like, I'm not a big whatever. I mean, like, if it cost me $30 to get him out of there, ASAPs, $30 it is.
Megan (31:06): Wow, that's crazy. So there. Ugh. I've had an, you know, I had a lot of first dates, but I only were a dating expert. Yes. But I only had one really bad date that related to food.
31:20 — Megan’s Speakeasy Date with Tic Tacs and Smoke Breaks
Megan (31:20): And that was this guy. He was like some type of a professor. And we met scheduled to meet up for a first date. And we met at the Oakland, which is this local like speakeasy here in Ferndale. And at the time they're still going strong. Yeah. They they uh make like drinks that you could only get in like the 1920s. So they have very interesting, crazy drinks.
Matty (31:43): Craft cocktails, right?
Megan (31:45): Craft cocktails, but they make all their own sauces, their own like cherries, whatever. So it's a whole production when they like make a drink for you. So I'm like, oh, that's kind of a good first date place. So I started using it briefly as like my first date meetup place. But after this date, I never did again. So I met this guy there. I told him, Oh, it's this cool cocktail bar in uh Ferndale. So we meet there. He shows up and then he's kind of like, Well, I'm not much of a drinker. So he orders a beer. So already I'm kind of like disappointed because I'm like, well, this whole point of going to a place like this is to like nice cocktail, order different cocktails, hear them like they we were at the bar, so they make it right in front of you, they talk about them, like that kind of from each other. Exactly. So I was very kind of let down. So then he's like, we have our drinks, he's like, Oh, uh he had said he wasn't much of a drinker, so he's like nursing this beer. Now I meanwhile have like I've seen him, I'm not interested. Oh then he takes a thing, a container of Tic Tacs, and he pours Tic Tacs out on the bar. Oh boy, and it's the fruit flavored Tic Tacs, which I actually do love.
Matty (33:00): Is it a fruit adventure one and a half calorie breath meant?
Megan (33:03): Yeah, the fruit adventure Tic Tacs, and he has them poured out on the table. Yes, that's the name of them. And he will occasionally just pick one up and eat it like an appetizer. And then at one point he's like, Would you like one? And he offers them to me from the table or uh not table, the bar. And I'm just like, no. And meanwhile, I'm like, I had said we set this up as like a first meeting, one drink. So I'm like, I just gotta get through my drink and I'm out. That's it. Yeah, perfect. We didn't drive either, we met there. So meanwhile, he's fucking nursing this drink, and then he keeps leaving me at the bar to go outside and smoke.
Matty (33:44): Oh, ow.
Megan (33:46): I'm not into smokers, but if you're like actively trying to quit, maybe I date you, but you leave me to go outside.
Matty (33:52): Maybe that's why he's doing these Tic Tacs.
JJ (33:54): Probably.
Megan (33:55): Maybe, but I'm just like because of the breath.
JJ (33:57): Right.
Megan (33:57): You're nursing this beer. I'm ready to go. I finish my drink. His beer is still half full. And I'm like, oh my God. So I order a second drink.
Matty (34:07): Oh, well, that's on you then. That is on you.
Megan (34:09): Because I don't know how to end it, because I want to end it. Oh, our drinks are done. Nice to meet you. Because I'm not.
Matty (34:14): It was nice. You could have been.
Megan (34:15): If it's a first date, I don't think you don't address a head on. I just leave and go my separate ways. Either way. And I would end it with a text if they texted me. If they don't text me, I don't text back. So, anyway, that was my story of these Tic Tacs. Crazy. And I do love a fruit adventure, and I still get the fruit adventure Tic Tac. But unfortunately, I always think of this horrible professor guy.
Matty (34:37): What if instead of Tic Tacs, they were Mentos? Would you do it? No, I still would have said that.
JJ (34:43): What about the Mentos discovery?
Megan (34:44): Yeah. I would have been, I just like I was, I kind of wanted a Tic Tac. I just think it's gross to pour them out on this bar. Yes. It is gross. And then eat them offer you a Tic Tac. And then eat them. Because this bar doesn't eat.
JJ (34:58): Instead of olives and nuts, Tic Tacs.
Megan (35:00): Well, let me tell you, the beauty of this bar as a first date spot is it doesn't have food.
JJ (35:05): Yes.
Megan (35:06): So if you don't like them, they can't rope you into food or a dinner because that happens a lot of other. Well, I learned a lot on those hundred first dates. So anyway, I was tempted because I love a fruit adventure tic-tac. And I would have been tempted by a mento, but I think it's gross. It is. So I didn't take it.
Matty (35:25): Just odd.
Megan (35:26): Odd. And I never saw him talk to him again. Yeah. Yeah.
Matty (35:29): No, I would hope.
Megan (35:30): Well, just don't tell me up front. Like if I suggest a place and you're not gonna get a cocktail, you're gonna get a beer, then just say no, let's go to a beer place. I don't know.
Matty (35:39): I don't know if I agree with that, but I mean because I mean, if you suggest a place, I can see him being like courteous to the lady that does it. And then if he's not a cocktailer, a beer is okay. I get it though. Like I think he could have maybe stretched himself to get a cocktail in that moment, but well, the nail in the coffin was leaving me at the bar by myself on a first date to go smoke. That's that is the nail in the coffin. That's the worst part.
Megan (36:07): I was already like no second date, probably. He maybe had a 1% chance, but then when he left me, did he pick up the tab? Well, I think we split it, but I don't remember. Oh, well, that's a big detail. Well, that's a big detail. I know. Well, that's a critical detail. It is, but you know, when you're in those moments, you're just happy to get out. Correct.
Matty (36:28): Your mind is there's a point where your mind is thinking about nothing other than my escape plan.
Megan (36:34): Yeah, my exit plan.
Unclear (36:35): Yeah, 100%.
Megan (36:37): Oh well, as you can see, lots of red flags in all these stories.
36:42 — Product Review: EOAT Adjustable Dumbbells
Megan (36:42): But I think it's time to move on because we have something I actually am really excited about, which is Matty, what you're currently obsessed with. Yes. Oh, and I can't get enough of it. What? Yeah.
JJ (36:56): What are you talking about?
Matty (36:57): Well, I've I've brought um a fitness model with me today to demonstrate. All right. Our Detroit Daddy. Our Detroit Daddy is gonna model while I present. So, oh, look at that. And look, can you pull that in frame? Look at and and and for those of that you can see, you can see the weights actually match my shirt, which is match. Um, so those are EOATs, I guess. EOAT. They are adjustable weights. So those wait, wait, stop.
Megan (37:33): So the product is you're calling them EOAT. Oh, it's the the whole the whole um weight itself is EOAT. Not not those. Not the weights themselves.
Matty (37:45): Well, they're all it's a product. It's it's the dumbbell with the weights on it.
Megan (37:50): It's called EOAT. All right, okay.
Matty (37:53): What else can I do?
Megan (37:55): Well, you said EOATs, like each individual weight was called. I didn't say that. Oh, well, I misunderstood. Sorry.
Matty (38:01): So that so JJ has been demonstrating well, I've been like I'm in QVC-ing into what an EOAT is. Um, but this is a 22 and a half pound dumbbell when all weights are locked and loaded. But you can't see it. But JJ is bending over. Careful, JJ. Don't let out a toot.
Megan (38:21): Yeah, exactly.
Matty (38:21): And he is now he's got like it's down to a five pound or a 10 pound or something.
JJ (38:27): 13.5.
Matty (38:28): 13.5. So the beauty of it is you don't have to buy the full dumbbell set of every pound. You can just, it's very easy. When I do um put this on uh the video portion of it, um, I can do a visual so you can see it up close in case you want to buy it. But again, got it at Amazon. And it was for $159.99. Now that may seem expensive at first, but like literally you can make that into five different weights. Because if you take all four of them off, you can just use it at the dumbbell without any add-ons, and then you can do four other and then multiple configurations after that, actually, JJ. So it's actually way more. I can't do the math of how many different concoctions you could get.
JJ (39:16): Well, it goes from 22 all the way down to 4.5.
Matty (39:20): Well, right, but you could mix and match the the weights you choose to leave on there. See what I'm saying?
Megan (39:26): Yeah, well, and I think the beauty of it for me, what I think people can't do. Well, I'm out of frame is that you just set that weight handle down in the holder, and you just turn a knob. You just turn a knob and then it will adjust the weight, and then you just pick it back up and it goes with the appropriate weight that you want it.
Matty (39:48): Oh, there we go. It's in frame, so it sits in this resting, I don't know, container. I'll call it holder. Yeah, right. And to Megan's point, there's a knob on the side, JJ. Where is it on the side or in the front? And then you just click it to the weight you want and pick the weights up, and the weights that don't contribute to that desired weight stay in the holder.
JJ (40:13): Can I clarify? There is not a knob on the side.
Matty (40:16): Okay.
JJ (40:16): When you hold where you hold the actual dumbbell, you twist it and then you change your weight.
Unclear (40:24): Yeah.
JJ (40:24): So there's no side. It's very easy. It's very easy. It's very easy. So it's already when the way that you grab it, you twist it, you lift it.
Matty (40:32): Yes.
JJ (40:32): Thank you. Grab it, twist it, lift it.
Matty (40:34): I love it. Grab it, twist it, lift it. And they're great if you are living in a small place. Um, you want to have multiple weights, but you don't want all these dumbbells to clutter up. They look good, they look retro, they're cute.
JJ (40:51): Can I just say that we were surprised by this package at Melissa's place?
Matty (40:58): Yes. I didn't know.
JJ (40:59): We didn't even know that this package was being delivered from Matty.
Matty (41:03): I was traveling.
JJ (41:04): And all of a sudden we were traveling, and he just like, all of a sudden, lo and behold, we got the Missy's like, I don't know what you ordered, but it's very heavy.
Matty (41:15): I love it. Because collectively it was like 50 pounds. She goes, I don't know what you ordered. Yeah. Well, we got it. But I did. So I'm a fan. It's great for exactly what you were just saying. Like, I was in this routine, I gotta get back into it, to be honest. In which it's a weight routine, and I you have to do it every single day. Well, in the summer, I do a lot of local traveling by car. Well, I'm not gonna bring all my dumbbells with me, but this would allow me to keep that program and like when I travel to Grand Rapids or if I was traveling to and this it this type of uh dumbbell weights was very, very famous during COVID.
JJ (41:55): Um, it actually was selling out because people wanted something efficient that they didn't want to have to obviously they couldn't go to the gym, right? But they had to kind of build space. Space was an issue, so yeah.
Matty (42:10): So this and it looks so nice and there are some that can get really pricey. So just so you all know, yeah, I did do a lot of research as I always do before I pull the trigger on a purchase. So it's a it's a best bet. It's a matty best bet, I'll call it a matty best bet. Go, you won't be disappointed. And also, I don't know if your work has a program for it, but like I was able to use it towards my wellness benefit that the company provides us with. So no out of pocket for me. Awesome, awesome. Thank you. Yeah, great product. It's on it. You did a great job, JJ. Thank you for being my prices right model. Whenever you want me to show my guns, I will do it. Right. It wasn't hard. I didn't have to go. Detroit Daddy.
Megan (42:50): So um it's on our Linktree. Go ahead, you can find it there. Um, but speaking of these, what'd you call them, Matty Best Bet?
Matty (42:58): A Matty Best Bet.
43:00 — Slip It In: Vintage Shopping, Poshmark and Depop
Megan (43:00): I have to also comment for my Slip It In, is kind of related
Megan (43:03): to Matty. You've been talking so much about vintage stores and shopping that it kind of got me into this vintage shopping mode. But I haven't been doing it really in person.
Matty (43:15): I love it.
Megan (43:16): I've been doing it online. I've been doing it online. So I there's certain items that I haven't I forgot about or remembered that I never was able to purchase from J.Crew that I wanted, or I have certain items from J.Crew or other brands that I love that I got in one color, but I get so many compliments when I wear it. I want it in other colors and they no longer sell it. So I've been doing a lot of shopping on like Poshmark and the The RealReal and eBay and thredUP and you guys do Depop. I've done a little Depop. So um anyway, I've been buying a lot, but as part of that, I started also selling. So So specifically on Poshmark. So I had a couple items that I bought from Anthropologie that were final sale items that I thought I'm gonna love. So I bought them, but then I got them and I didn't like them. So I was able, so that got me started. I sold those items, but now I'm just going through my closet and I'm every week trying to sell like three to five items.
Matty (44:24): It's exhausting. I tried this as well.
Megan (44:26): But I'm well, I'm very particular of I'm only selling on Poshmark the items that are name brand that I know are in great condition and will sell.
JJ (44:38): That's good. Yeah, that's a good trade.
Megan (44:40): And some have tags on them that I bought and never wore, and now I'm like, I'm not gonna wear this, I'm gonna sell it.
JJ (44:46): And I do like the idea of you because sometimes I'm like you agreeing on when you're buying the item a final sale, and you're like, Yes, yeah, it's fine, I'm not gonna return it. And sometimes I try them on in the store, sometimes I don't, and I still agree to that. But then when you try it at home, you're like, Yeah, fuck, I'm not gonna be able to return it.
Matty (45:05): Do you know what they call it on Depop? A repop. Oh yeah. So if you buy it on Depop and you get it and you're like, I don't like this, they make it easy and you just repop it.
JJ (45:16): Oh yeah. Are you a Depop ambassador?
Matty (45:19): I yeah, I do. I do love a Depop. You do. I do.
45:23 — Pull It Out: Sale Prices, Returns and Rebuying
Megan (45:23): Well, my Pull It Out kind of also goes along with um shopping. Um, and that is when I purchase something. And usually when I buy stuff, I don't pay full price. I'm always looking for a deal of some sort or I wait until they're on sale. So when I buy something, I'm usually already buying it at a discount. And then it goes on a deeper discount after I buy it. So I don't mind if it's like there's only one or two like sizes left or something, but recently I bought a couple items where I bought them already on sale or I had a coupon for like 30% off, and then they went on further sale. So then I'm forced to either go into the store and try a whole argument of like it's gone on sale within seven days. Well, it's a law that they have to give you the sale price if it's within seven days. It's in Michigan. But sometimes I don't want to mess with that, so I just rebuy it and then I have to go return it. So my Pull It Out is having to return after I rebuy because I had to rebuy it because it was cheaper.
JJ (46:25): That happens along with me with like H&M and Zara that I buy much. Like that happens. I find I found myself in the store and say, I'm gonna wait two weeks more. Like and it's gonna go into this.
Megan (46:41): Well, like I told you, I'm always monitoring. What I'm monitoring are like prices is usually on things I want to buy.
Matty (46:47): That's okay. I was just gonna say it's not like I bought a sprinkler hose uh that you sprinkle the water, like the end thing, and the sprayer, the sprayer and it started leaking, and I bought it like two months ago. So today I bought a brand new one, the same one. Uh-and what I'll be returning is the one I bought two months ago.
Megan (47:05): I knew it. I knew it. I knew he was gonna do that. You're notorious with that. I'm actually returning a brand new ticketed item that I've never used.
Matty (47:15): Well, yeah, I will say this product is an expensive one, and it should have lasted longer than two months, but it's outside this 30 days, so I have to buy the same product and then switcheroo.
Megan (47:27): I have a sprayer that's known to be like the top spray heads.
Matty (47:31): Of course, you do. Yeah. So well, talk to me on the side. All right, I'll talk about it. I'm gonna go into my Slip It Ins and Pull It Outs.
47:38 — Slip It In: Surprise Food in Your Teeth
Matty (47:38): Slip It In is when randomly you're going about your day, and surprise, you find a yummy piece of food in your teeth.
Megan (47:49): Oh, this is disgusting. This is disgusting. Like, oh, I can't.
JJ (47:55): I just can't I'm not gonna come back.
Matty (47:57): I find it to be a dream. If it's like a tasty, like, oh look at that.
JJ (48:04): That is so disgusting.
Matty (48:05): No, I would spit it out. It was in your mouth and you found a piece of bacon three teeth deep, you wouldn't spit it out. You chew it and eat it.
Megan (48:14): No, I do not. I immediately get a napkin or a Kleenex and get it out of my mouth. Why? Why is it? I don't want it. Why is it bad?
Matty (48:22): It's been in your mouth. I find it disgusting. It's like a morsel, it's like a oh, it's a surprise morsel, and it's a Slip It In for me. All right, my Pull It Out happened a couple weeks ago.
48:33 — Pull It Out: Running with the Bulls and the Festival of San Fermín
Matty (48:33): JJ, you're probably gonna have a strong opinion on this.
Megan (48:36): Oh my gosh.
Matty (48:37): Running with the bulls. Oh, it is a Spain event. Yeah, San Fermín. It just happened, it wrapped up on July 14th.
JJ (48:45): Yeah, Festival of San Fermín.
Matty (48:47): I just do not get it, nor do I support it. I think it's awful for the Bulls. I think the people are crazy insane. There were 57 injured people this year. Uh and they an 86-year-old British man. Why are you you're smiling at this? There's an 86-year-old British man who was gored.
Megan (49:11): Uh uh, someone dies every year.
Matty (49:14): 16 people have died since it started. Uh I just do not. Do you have do you it like it, JJ? Do you have an app do you I don't I mean I I'm not here to knock a tradition. I get it. Uh there could have been a time and place for the event, but it just seems uh dangerous to me. And I think it's dangerous.
JJ (49:34): And it's a tradition that has been in Spain for many, many years. I do have to say, without pointing out too much, that it's has gotten worse with um, I wouldn't say just Americans, but tourist people coming in and being part of it without knowing and understanding what the goal of it is, and they just think that they can just run around it. They are, and I think that we talked about it on the previous episode about the bison. Like, if you are with animals that are completely wild, you are exposed to that. That's a risk you take.
Matty (50:11): Right. Oh, I don't feel any uh sympathy for these people that get gored. Yeah, I mean it's just that's crazy.
JJ (50:18): I get yours Pull It Out 100% because I've I've never been. Um because there are no I've never been because it is very dangerous. Uh like my family would never like it's it's just not, but it's I'm not gonna point out that the tourists are the ones that making it worse.
Megan (50:40): But well, I agree. I think that is true. I would say the locals kind of know what the story is and how.
Matty (50:46): Well, I think both things can be true, yeah. And it's just to me, it just is a little bit yeah uh insane. Yeah.
JJ (50:54): But I'm gonna keep my Slip It In simple out quick.
50:58 — Slip It In: Espresso Martinis and Fries
JJ (50:58): Um, my Slip It In it kind of comes in with a Slip It In that I talked about in a couple episodes before, which I said that even though we are a big espresso martinis, aficionados, um, we are kind of making espresso martini the drink of the summer. Um, but on top of that, one thing that Matty and I have discovered and we've implemented this summer, it's what, Matty?
Matty (51:23): Espresso and fries. Espresso martini and fries too, so I'll cross it off.
JJ (51:29): It's the best combination, the best combo. We're chasing them. And if it's like a good specialty fry with the espresso martini, with that first sip and that first fry. Oh, it's so good. It's so so good.
Matty (51:45): It just I we were just at a restaurant and we got espresso martinis, and we didn't want to have a full meal. And I said, Well, what if we just order a thing of fries? And we did, and that just the pairing was really good, and we're both like, great. So then the next place, we still didn't say this is a thing. The next place we went to again, espresso martini. I'm like, should we get another order of fries? Sure. And now it's like, and now we've done it a third and fourth time, yeah, and we did it locally when we got back, and so now it's like, I think it could be a thing, dude.
52:17 — Pull It Out: Grindr Edge, AI Dating Features and Premium App Pricing
JJ (52:17): It could be a thing. Oh, espresso martinis and noodles, yes, yes, that's just noodle on that. Um, and my Pull It Out is something since we actually kind of were talking about dating. We've talked about Grindr, where you know how much of a support Madonna has been on Grindr. Right now, I think that Grindr should be a little bit more like they just need to pull it back on regards to this memberships that they put in out there. They had they added this new membership. Listen to this, Megan. It's called the Edge.
Megan (52:45): Yeah, I want to know.
JJ (52:45): And it's an AI feature type of membership that gets whatever likes you have and connects you with those specific individuals artificially. Like it's just like an artificial intelligence type of thing.
Megan (53:01): I guess I'm confused. So people, have you been matched with them?
JJ (53:05): You can match, you have not matched with them, you probably have liked them.
Matty (53:09): He's not in he's not way too clear how much this is. No, so okay.
JJ (53:12): So the it's an ultra-premium subscription tier powered by a proprietary artificial artificial intelligence um called GAI. Uh, it offers advanced features like conversation recaps, daily, yeah, daily personalized match recommendations, profile insights, and full Grindr Unlimited perks. This is $220 a week.
Megan (53:39): What? Oh, I thought it was a month.
JJ (53:42): No, $220 a week. I don't even know. From $80 to $220 a week. Yeah, it is, it could be, it could actually start from $350 a month. So it's worse than Raya.
Matty (53:54): That's well, that's better than $200 a month if you're basically.
JJ (53:57): But you know that there is like if you want to do a deal limited, there is like either you want to do $15 a week or $27 a month. So it's like another thing. And I think that grinders should make it easy for us that are in the dating world instead of like making it complicated. And also I think that if I were to have the means to do the $350 a month for this, chances are it's probably be five of us.
Megan (54:22): Yeah, no, well, no, but I don't I don't think you're only limited to connections to the people who have that same subscription, right? It's the whole grinder world, right?
JJ (54:33): But what if the other ones have not been able to pay that same price?
Megan (54:38): It better include who cares, you're getting the benefit.
Matty (54:40): It better include dinner with Madonna, is what I'm saying.
JJ (54:43): Probably should. It's just bad. I don't a fan of that. I agree. Grindr needs to make it accessible for all of us basic data.
Matty (54:52): A lot of times a company's strategy is to put like the the black card, for example, of like American Express out there and tease it. But I think this is the wrong community. Like they're not this is not it's just not Raya. We are, yeah, we're here. People on that app are looking for quick hits, not yeah, if you know what I mean.
