Slip It In
Airport Divorce, Baby Kitten Fishing & Monkey Barring

Questions or Comments: Slip It In Here!
Airport divorce sounds dramatic, but Matty, Megan and JJ discover it may actually be one of the healthier ways for couples to travel. The idea is simple: get through airport security together, go your separate ways to do whatever makes you happy, then reunite before boarding. That leads to separate flights, vacation independence, airport flirting and whether a little time apart can make traveling together much better.
Then modern dating apparently needs its own glossary. The trio gets into kitten fishing, when someone presents a slightly enhanced version of themselves online, before creating an even softer category: baby kitten fishing. From there come orbiting, monkey barring, wildflowering and the increasingly complicated ways people avoid, delay or redefine commitment.
JJ also brings in the FitBeast adjustable hand gripper before this week’s Slip It Ins and Pull It Outs cover the surprisingly satisfying experience of a solo date, the nightmare of remembering your sheets are still in the dryer at bedtime, Uber versus Lyft, favorite words and the mystery of an abandoned wig on a Detroit street.
In this episode:
• Airport divorce and why separating after security might actually be healthy
• Airport flirting, separate flights and vacation independence
• Kitten fishing versus the newly created baby kitten fishing
• Dating profiles that look very different by photo five
• Orbiting after dates, ghosting and the people who never quite disappear
• Monkey barring from one relationship into the next
• Wildflowering, DTR and how long you can really “follow the vibe”
• JJ’s FitBeast adjustable hand gripper
• Solo dates, solo travel and espresso martinis with fries
• Uber versus Lyft, forgotten bedsheets and an abandoned wig

[Theme song fades under Megan’s opening]
[00:23] Megan: We're back, slipping it in with you, bringing you the unhinged brunch conversation that you just can't stop listening to. I'm Megan.
[00:33] JJ: You are JJ. And in front of me, you have Matty.
[00:37] Megan: So how do you like that?
[00:39] Matty: I'm gonna be honest with that. I suggested this. I'm like, why don't we switch it up and I'll introduce you, JJ, and you introduce me. And he's like, Sometimes.
[00:51] JJ: Listen.
[00:51] Matty: Come on, we gotta mix it up.
[00:53] JJ: Years, years of friendships and where you know what battles ups and downs, which battles to choose.
[01:00] Megan: Well, right to be a good sport. I have to also say, I knew I was right. The mustard community has spoken.
[01:09] JJ: You're just supporting yourself.
[01:11] Megan: That's not good-sport friendship. I'm reiterating facts. Okay. So the mustard community has sounded off on our socials about hot dog toppings. And let me tell you, pretty much everyone who responded said mustard is a must on hot dog, which for us, all three of us, it's a no-go.
[01:31] Host: Yeah.
[01:31] JJ: I actually went on a date a couple weeks ago, and the person that was with says that his preference is just mustard on the hot dog. Just mustard, yeah.
[01:41] Megan: Well, there's a that alone, a mustard-only community. Yeah. That it's only mustard. Oh, that got him a block. Did you block him?
[01:52] JJ: Or just no, it's just like it's you're not gonna go out because of mustard.
[01:56] Matty: I mean, there's all the things, but you don't want to you don't want to have to maintain mustard in the fridge.
[02:02] JJ: No, for sure. I am not a mustard person. Ever. Like never.
[02:06] Matty: What about even on a pretzel? No, never. A soft pretzel.
[02:09] JJ: You've we've we've been around together many times, and uh mustard is not my my my thing.
[02:14] Megan: Well, I do mustard on a pretzel. I like mustard and potato salad. I like mustard in a deviled egg.
[02:21] Matty: It's a primary ingredient.
[02:23] JJ: Not in my potato salad.
[02:25] Matty: I don't think you know it's there. Yeah. And some of them that you I agree.
[02:29] Megan: Do you eat a deviled egg?
[02:30] Matty: Well, there you go. I don't.
[02:32] Megan: I love it. There's mustard in there.
[02:35] Matty: We always find a way. He says it, but we find it. The ingredient is there.
[02:40] Megan: It's not my favorite topping, but I keep it in the fridge and I do use it for certain items.
[02:45] JJ: Okay, you've been redeemed then.
[02:46] Megan: Thank you.
[02:47] Matty: Yeah.
[02:47] Megan: Thank you.
[02:49] Matty: was reading uh an interesting article in my scrolls, and I thought I'd bring it to the table for conversation. I've had a conversation with some other folks at work recently about it as well, because in the summertime, especially this time of year in between um, well, when school's out for kids, people are traveling a lot. And travel in general can be very can be stressful. Like the the things leading up to it until you get to your destination. So this article um is was talking about uh how does or what is known come to be known as airport divorce. Oh and it's are there are they like wedding chapels now in an airport well that would be airport engagements? This is divorce. Uh so basically it sounds kind of more extreme than it actually is, but it according to this article, here's what happens couples will check in together, drop off their luggage, and then clear security. But once you come through the security, you basically security, you basically go your separate ways until to do what? Well, it says in here, it's you know, whatever, like people like to do different things. So if you would rather get a quick little massage or go to the duty airport, like you know those yeah, I hate those. Okay, well then you wouldn't be doing that, but maybe you would that's not the activity I would go for. Okay, this isn't about you. This or maybe they would grab a cup of coffee, someone else might want to go read their book, someone else might do a terminal walk, and you just need a break. Get your personal space, and then you come back and then board the plane.
[04:41] JJ: Oh, so you're traveling together.
[04:42] Matty: You are, which made me actually think about. I mean, like I would take it almost a step further and call this a healthy behavior, although some might find it weird, but I would almost suggest what if you actually took separate flights?
[05:02] Megan: I do that all the time, yeah.
[05:04] Matty: Yeah. Because of your uh ability to fly passes and stuff.
[05:08] Megan: So because my father's a retired commercial airline pilot, I can use special passes and fly standby, which I've done pretty much my whole life. So I'm constantly, if I'm traveling with people, I'm usually always flying standby. So I usually, to me, it's not worth buying a ticket just to fly with the people I'm traveling with. So I'm always just a day ahead or a few, yeah, a lot of times too. Um, sometimes, so we do kind of the opposite of the airport divorce. We travel together to the airport, go through security, hang out as long as we can until one of our flights have to be boarded. Yeah.
[05:51] Matty: I would like if you I feel like the packing, the uh getting your Uber or whatever transportation, parking at the airport if you're getting parked, or shuttling if you're getting shuttled, and then getting, you know, your luggage handled and going through the security, like that's where I think a lot of frustrations can build and fight. Yes. And like not the flight is nothing. Right. And then like you really sometimes you have to like intentionally with your partner, you know. I'm sure we've been in this situation years ago, JJ. Like when we get to our destination, we can be like, okay, can we agree to just put that behind us? That travel was a little stressful. Let's just so many times. Let's just I know I traveled. Let's just focus on this point forward. And so, like, if you couldn't take all that out of it.
[06:45] JJ: Can we have fun from now on?
[06:47] Matty: Can we just can it all just be positive from here on? Yeah.
[06:51] JJ: Especially since like I have like flying and anxiety. So I like to your like opposed to you, my preference is flying with somebody. So I I am uh I'm a proponent of like the airport divorce and enjoy the airport or have my moment, but at the time at the moment that we're flying, I need you by my side.
[07:16] Matty: Yeah, but I'm not always good at that. Because I know I'm there, but then I I will say stuff to you like, okay, we're gonna it won't go down. We'll be fine. We'll be fine. And he'll be like, Don't bring it up. Yeah, anyway. Don't you think if you could my theory here is that if you removed all of that potential friction and frustration, and you got into the whole, you arrived, let's say, at one o'clock, and somebody else, your partner arrived at two o'clock, and you both were like seeing each other, yes, and be like, oh my god, we're here. Vacation just starts, yeah, and you're actually kind of seeing each other again after not seeing each other through the whole period. Yeah, I think they would be kind of refreshing. No, it's not.
[07:58] JJ: And usually that's the time that my sighting starts kicking in. So yeah, it's perfect.
[08:02] Megan: Well, yeah, well, it's involved. I've heard other people have like taken this whole travel divorce thing by when they're on vacation, they're taking breaks.
[08:14] JJ: So they're like one of them once they landed on whatever they're going to.
[08:19] Megan: One would say, Oh, I'm gonna go lay at the pool today, and the other one's gonna go on a an excursion to some monastery or something. So, like that way, you have well, I'll see, I'll be at the pool. If you're in Europe, you know, lots of times you're seeing different things, yeah. Anyway, so I'm just like people have done that, which also makes sense to me. I would support that on a longer trip, but if it's a shorter trip, like three or four days, I would not be able to do that.
[08:50] JJ: I mean, you only have three days together, yeah.
[08:52] Megan: Right.
[08:53] JJ: Um, but I do like the idea of like if we're seven days, especially sometimes on a cruise, it's like, hey, I just booked my spa day or my massage day, or I want to be in the pool early in the morning because I like to wake up in the morning and go to the pool.
[09:09] Megan: I've not seen it.
[09:11] JJ: I like to dip in on the pool before everybody else.
[09:15] Matty: Like, what time are you talking about?
[09:16] JJ: I know early.
[09:18] Megan: Well, I don't know.
[09:20] Matty: I mean, it sounds good, it sounds like a good thing to say. I don't yeah, I don't know that I've seen it in practice, but I mean But I'd like to have my own activity.
[09:30] JJ: Like I had the idea of I I think that that's healthy.
[09:34] Matty: Yeah, you recharge. I think people underestimate how much it is to just yeah, have some time where you if you are on vacation, that means you've removed yourself from work and maybe some of lifestyles, adulting needs, and all that stuff. So like just reset yourself and take some time. So I think it's great.
[09:58] Matty: can we just talk about um going to the airport and people flirting at the airport? Yeah, we can so it's so it's come put me in the spot. So these people when they yeah, when they divorce at the terminal, um at the bar. I wonder if there's flirting going because I there is a lot of flirt opportunity, I think, at airports.
[10:27] JJ: That is like I think that there is like airport is like the best location for a no strings attached moment. Oh, 100.
[10:35] Megan: Wow. Well, I don't wouldn't go that far.
[10:37] JJ: But I mean I you know that there's nothing gonna happen. We I have a flight to catch, so so do you.
[10:43] Matty: But in but chances are they probably do live in and around your area if you're boarding a flight at the same time. Not if it's a connection, yeah.
[10:51] Megan: It could be a connection, it could be they're going to be a few.
[10:54] JJ: Not if you're in a standby like me again.
[10:56] Megan: Yeah.
[10:56] JJ: Oh, they could, yeah.
[10:58] Megan: I'm all over the place. But I'll say I'm always looking, I've always my whole life thought, oh, I would meet this great wonderful man in an airport or on a plane. It's never happened. So I think in theory, it seems so great. In like practice, I'm not sure how often it's really happening.
[11:17] JJ: I think it's the same as the equivalent of people it's like trying to make long distance happen, and you know, most of the time it's yeah, it's a hard one.
[11:25] Megan: Yeah.
[11:26] Matty: Well, um, 26, oh sorry, 31% of people surveyed last year said that they have flirted. What they've been flirting at the airport with others, and 20% said they would change their flight plans. Oh, I wouldn't. 20% is a big percentage. I have I would do that.
[11:51] JJ: I actually You would change your flight to go with the other person.
[11:57] Matty: If there was like I believe in there's been a couple moments, I think, in my life where I always looked back and been like, what if I would have like said yes to this in general? Oh maybe, you know, and so I would think when life has an intersection and something comes in front of you, like I wouldn't do it if I was traveling with somebody else and my that would impact somebody else's travel, but like let's just say hypothetically, I mean I would consider these people say they would consider it. Yeah, considering it and doing it are two different things.
[12:32] Megan: I would consider it too, because yes, how what are you doing travel-wise that you're changing? Like, were you just on your way home? So what's another night, or you just taking a later flight? Like, there's so many scenarios.
[12:46] JJ: Yeah, I did have an experience where I met a flight attendant that was flying to the same spot that I was going to, and you know that they have the layovers.
[12:55] Host: Yes.
[12:56] JJ: So he decided to not catch his layover for the next day, just stayed.
[13:00] Megan: Oh.
[13:01] JJ: And we had we were able to have a we had a date and dinner.
[13:05] Megan: Wow, look at that.
[13:06] Matty: Um there's uh a friend I have too that uh friend, like not a date, but like that I met on an airplane flying back home from Vegas, uh, and we were seated by each other in the airplane and um got to talking. And I mean, he's a handsome guy. Uh but and so like that was probably part of what led to like just striking up a conversation. But it, you know, he was in a relationship and um I was in a relationship and we just became friends, and he's still a friend uh to this day. And so chancing. It's a friend of mine. So were you flirting? I don't know. I I mean, I think I it's hard to just I mean, like, was I trying to be charming because I'm meeting someone for the first time? I think we always we all try to, you know, present ourselves in a way. Yeah. So I don't know that I was intentionally flirting, but you know, just trying to be uh charming, I guess is the way to put it. But so you know falling in love at the airport.
[14:16] JJ: No, those are not my it's the topic.
[14:19] Matty: Oh, right? Yeah, I mean I I think it would be cool if if I ended up with somebody and my backstory was Oh my god, we were we met in a yeah, we met in a line for security or at the terminal.
[14:33] JJ: wanderlove. Yeah.
[14:34] Matty: Yes. wanderlove. Yeah. Yeah. Oh.
[14:40] Megan: That that term is not how it's that's not what wanderlove is.
[14:45] JJ: No, no. Yeah, like you fall in love with somebody at the airport.
[14:50] Matty: Well, you have like a um, yeah, you have a spontaneous vacation fling. Yeah. And it's like a whirlwind relationship that you met when you were away from home.
[15:02] Megan: So it doesn't have to be at the airport.
[15:03] JJ: It could be it could be uh Riviera Maya in Mexico.
[15:07] Megan: Yes.
[15:08] Matty: Yeah, could be on a cruise ship. Like I had a Matty had a fling on a cruise ship. I had two wanderloves. Oh, you did a cruise ship wanderlove and an Asheville.
[15:20] JJ: Asheville, oh my god. I would love to go to Asheville. I've never, it's on my bucket list.
[15:24] Matty: Yeah.
[15:25] JJ: So especially after they recover from the hurricane.
[15:28] Matty: Yeah, yeah. So uh yeah, wander love is a term that I have. You had a wanderlove?
[15:36] JJ: I don't think I have had one.
[15:40] Matty: They're interesting because it's exciting, but then if you do it's a whole thing too, like, okay, this came into my life, it was spontaneous, uh, paths crossed, and yet fuck, you know, like you wonder if you like something more could have come of it if you were, yeah, if situations and circumstances were different.
[16:05] JJ: Exciting and sad at the same time. That's what I'm saying.
[16:07] Matty: Yeah, it is kind of like a oh, okay.
[16:10] JJ: Yeah, it's like one of those things that, and Matty, you and I experience that often when we travel. What Matty always places like, I wonder how many days will it take you to say, Matty, we're moving here.
[16:22] Matty: Yeah. Hours. No, I usually it's like not days, hours.
[16:28] JJ: Immediately I'm like, I'm enjoying myself so much, and we've said that many times. Megan knows this, like the the pool here for us gays is small. Yeah. I mean, it is fun. It is small. But so when I'm traveling, we're having a good time, and I'm like, oh my God. Matt is like, I'm just waiting for you to say.
[16:49] Matty: Well, the last time when we were in New York and we were, it was like day two, and we were having uh fun. And I'm like, I think we're probably close, aren't we? And he's like, What do you mean? And he I said, To you, saying, Yeah, I could, I think we could move here. It was funny.
[17:05] Megan: Yeah, I have that sometimes when I go, but like legitimately, it's not everywhere. So it's very particular places that I'm like, okay, I've I this is a place I could live. I've now seen places where I could live, like I could move here and be happy, but it's not every city, it just would happen to be a particular vibe and environment that I've got. Same.
[17:30] JJ: I think that for me it was it's more of a um, I mean, we have only like two gay bars in like small places. There's a lot more than I mean in our area, I'm talking metro Detroit. Metro Detroit, only two.
[17:44] Megan: No, you've got well, all the Detroit gay bars.
[17:47] JJ: There are a lot of sketches. Yeah, but those are not the level of Matty and I.
[17:51] Megan: Well, I'm just saying there you've got more than two gay bars in the Detroit metro area.
[17:57] JJ: Oh two that we frequent.
[18:00] Matty: I will say it's not for me just about gay bars. I just me neither. I'm just but when I go I was just using a I think part of the appeal is you know, the wherever you wherever you live, that becomes your norm. So when you pull yourself out of that environment and put yourself into a new one, especially when you're not working and all you're doing is taking in the sights or having new experiences, there's something really attractive to that. And you think in those moments to be like, oh, I could live here. But then if you did live there, everything would start to and so that's part of the joy of traveling and experiencing things. Absolutely.
[18:40] Host: Yeah, yeah.
[18:41] Megan: Well, the least the one thing um with wanderlove, you're like meeting someone in person, in real life, naturally, you know, on a trip in a hotel bar, wherever.
[18:53] JJ: You love a hotel bar.
[18:54] Megan: I do love a hotel. So I think that's a good one.
[18:55] JJ: Oh my god, Megan and I had the best time at La Concha Hotel in Puerto Rico.
[19:00] Megan: A good hotel in a good uh a good hotel bar in like a good city in a nice hotel. There's nothing bad.
[19:09] JJ: Yeah, an espresso martini and french fries.
[19:12] Megan: Love it. But anyway, there's a whole thing now called kittenfishing.
[19:18] JJ: Like catfishing?
[19:20] Megan: Yes. So everyone knows about catfishing, the fake photos, fake identities, the MTV show.
[19:26] Matty: kittenfishing. Yeah.
[19:27] Megan: So kittenfishing is sort of a step down. So it's when someone isn't completely lying, like they don't have a completely different picture or a completely different name, a completely different persona, but they're giving you their most flattering edited version of themselves.
[19:45] JJ: Can you give me an example?
[19:46] Megan: So it would be like pictures of yourself 10 years ago.
[19:52] Matty: Oh, that's typical.
[19:53] Megan: Yeah, but I feel like that is standard.
[19:55] Matty: It's still you, so it's not full-blown cat.
[19:57] Megan: It's not catfishing. Yeah. Not kitten. Yes. Or like you're giving yourself um the sports you play. Maybe you've never really played them.
[20:09] JJ: Like pickleball for you.
[20:10] Megan: We've played them once. I feel like pickleball is one step from tennis, and I've played tennis.
[20:19] Matty: I think I had to I had to pull kit pickleball from nearby. Well, because I feel like she's like, You were kitten, you were kittenfishing. We're kittenfishing our audience.
[20:32] Megan: Well, the reality is I will play pickleball. I love playing pickleball. I don't have the opportunity to play it a lot.
[20:40] JJ: Okay. Well, okay.
[20:42] Megan: There you go.
[20:42] JJ: But it's a kitten.
[20:43] Megan: That would also that would be it's a little kitten fish. So I don't know, like, what is like I think there's a line of what's okay and not okay, because we've all probably experienced this kittenfishing online. But I think when you walk in to a bar to meet someone and they say, Oh, hi, Megan, and you're looking at them like, who the fuck are you? Yeah, that means it's gone beyond just making yourself show you the best of yourself online and you really are kittenfishing.
[21:18] JJ: I mean, but if you are at the bar and you see that person who you are, that is not a kitten. That is a cougar. Like, that is a big lion fishing. Like, if that person that's showing up, it's not the one that is, it's not that's not a small little.
[21:33] Megan: No, well, that's what I had that experience several times when I was dating where I was like, okay, this guy, like, he's now almost bald and he had a full head of hair in these pictures online. Like, well, that's crazy. Like, I get do I'm fine if it's an older picture, but it still looks like you. I don't care. But like, if you now have like half a head of hair less, it's not like many less.
[22:00] JJ: And Matty and I have said this before that sometimes we go into like the apps and it's like first picture. Oh, interesting.
[22:06] Matty: You just scroll through and was like, what happened between first picture picture five? And it's like this looks like a different person.
[22:13] Megan: That happens, yes. I know.
[22:14] Matty: Don't you think we all kitten fish to some extent? Yeah. Oh, I think a little bit on our resumes, on our dating app profile, on our regular 100%. Like even the way people post their social media and stuff. It's like you're presenting. Yeah, the filters. Yeah. Yeah, you're presenting situations and filters and all the things sometimes that it's just enhancing enhanced kitten.
[22:39] Megan: I think maybe there's baby kittenfishing and then kittenfishing. Oh, there's like a and I think babies, baby kittens, fishing.
[22:48] Matty: That's I thought that the kittens were already a baby. Whereas your pickleballing baby kitten?
[22:52] Megan: That's baby kitten. That's baby kitten. Baby kitten.
[22:57] Matty: Yeah. I'm gonna use baby kitten. Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
[23:00] Megan: I think kittenfishing's when you like are unrecognizable in person with what you presented online.
[23:06] Matty: And cat, you're a whole different person.
[23:08] Megan: Cat, you're a whole different person. And baby is just like kind of what everyone does. You're just trying to put your best foot forward.
[23:14] JJ: So it's like a white lie.
[23:16] Host: Yeah.
[23:16] Megan: Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
[23:17] JJ: Kind of a baby white lie. Baby kitten. Just a baby kitten. I kind of like the baby kitten. I like baby kitten a lot.
[23:26] Megan: Baby kitten.
[23:27] JJ: Oh. Let me just let me just noodle.
[23:30] Megan: it. Yeah, you noodle.
[23:31] JJ: Have you guys heard of the term um orbiting?
[23:34] Megan: No. And dating?
[23:36] JJ: Yeah, when it comes to dating, this kind of conversation made me think about that.
[23:40] Matty: Just the word itself makes me have a probably experience this already.
[23:45] JJ: Like if you've let's just say, for example, that you've got on a couple dates and I'm thinking about three, four dates, you thinking that there's a connection to it, then there's completely silence, complete silence. But then you notice that this person still watches your stories, like some of your posts, specifically thirst traps, gym posts, things like that. And all of a sudden, like, let's just say, for example, six months pass by and they send you happy birthday.
[24:14] Megan: Oh, that is a no-go. Absolutely.
[24:16] JJ: They're just like, they have not landed the plane. They just like orbiting.
[24:20] Matty: What is their intent?
[24:22] Megan: Do you keep you on the line because they may want to come back in?
[24:27] Matty: Kind of.
[24:28] JJ: I think that's a little bit frustrating, to be honest.
[24:31] Megan: It's frustrating.
[24:32] JJ: Yeah, like for example, for somebody like me, it takes a little bit for me to be able to be okay, like give somebody a chance.
[24:39] Megan: Oh, I'm the same way.
[24:40] JJ: Um so a fourth date. 100%. If it was like a foot first, second date, no big. I'd get that. Yeah. A fourth date, there is a connection there.
[24:50] Host: Yeah.
[24:51] JJ: And then there's like crickets. Yes. But then you're still orbiting.
[24:54] Matty: But what is the point? What is their point? Are they just trying to? I mean, like, it seems weird because if they're gonna go out, if they're also gonna go out on four dates with you, then go silent, and then still like send signals via watching your content.
[25:10] JJ: I think that they just want to have like a uh uh West Wilson syndrome, like it's just like a West moment, you know, West from Summer House. Like he wants to still tap in, being able to be around. Um, I'm still like you're still the guy that I you went on four dates with me.
[25:27] Matty: And maybe it's like I'm you can't really have me, but I'm still here.
[25:32] JJ: There is a sense of like lack of commitment.
[25:34] Megan: I think I think it's someone who has commitment issues. I also think maybe they one could have been lying, are in a relationship and then realize they've gone too far at the fourth day, and then they're like, okay, but they still are into you, want to know what's going on. She's too much.
[25:52] Matty: She's too much.
[25:52] Megan: Yeah, no, it's I mean, I think it totally the four days and they're in another room.
[25:58] JJ: And then they realize, like, I've got it, I can't keep going. Megan isn't a satellite watching you. She's money.
[26:05] Matty: Well, she's a fucking orbiter. 100%. I'm an orbiter.
[26:09] JJ: Harvey, have you orbit?
[26:11] Matty: I've orbited with her. She made me made me orbit with her. I mean, I have my I'd had my share, my fair share of orbiting. I don't orbit orbit. You don't, nor do I think I if I've if I've been orbited, I wouldn't know because I don't You don't need anyone who watches your.
[26:30] JJ: I don't.
[26:30] Matty: I don't look at that, I don't clock that, I don't, and I don't look at what other people are doing in terms of like, yes, I follow, I follow people as a operational click follow, but I don't like ever seek out any friend, family member, celebrity, their content on a regular basis. It just whatever's in my feed, and usually I'm actually scrolling news sites versus social sites.
[26:59] Megan: Well, I want to clear the air because you said I'm an orbiter. I'm not an orbiter. You just when I said it, you did say I'm an orbit. I'm on, I so there's a different orbiter sphere as a satellite. An orbiter is the person who has like ghosted the other person after four dates and then just looking all their content. I am just looking at all the content. I wouldn't have ghosted.
[27:26] Matty: Okay. I guess I thought you were an orbiter back in the days when I would be in the car with you and we'd orbit around this guy's house and we'd orbit back around the house.
[27:34] Megan: Okay, but that's an orbiting. But that was they were orbiting around the block and around the block. It wasn't where I ghosted them.
[27:41] Matty: She had a wig on.
[27:41] JJ: You had a wig on?
[27:42] Megan: No. The point Matty's not making is you have a wig on. No. But they might have been just yeah. The point is I didn't ghost them. Those were people I liked that I was monitoring.
[28:00] JJ: I don't think that there's ghosting, though. Like do you they have access, they have access to them. Well, okay, but they stopped they stopped communicating. Yes, yeah.
[28:08] Megan: Correct. So that and they're ghosting in that respect.
[28:11] JJ: Yeah.
[28:11] Megan: So I've never done that. If I were done with you four dates and ended it, we're done. I'm not gonna be, I'm not gonna be looking at you if I ended it, because I don't I would have ended it and I didn't care.
[28:23] JJ: That's the thing though. Like, do you still you're wondering on your end? If you're ending you're in like, do you really want to connect or not? Like you like it, you're not liking it, you're wishing me happy birthday six months after. Like, I get all that.
[28:36] Megan: I've experienced that, but I personally have not been an orbiter.
[28:40] JJ: Yeah.
[28:41] Megan: That's what I'm just claiming. I'm doing other things, they are other names for it, but not orbiting.
[28:47] JJ: Okay, okay.
[28:48] Matty: Oh well, okay, okay.
[28:50] Megan: Well, you gotta have the first step to be an orbiter.
[28:54] Matty: When you said somebody was likely going out on four dates and then realized or got caught, whatever you were supposed to do that they were potentially in a relationship. They might have been monkey-barring.
[29:06] Megan: Oh, what's that?
[29:07] Matty: Monkey what? monkey-barring. Barring. You know what monkey bars are in general?
[29:11] JJ: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I do.
[29:12] Matty: Like on the jungle gym.
[29:13] JJ: They have them in my country.
[29:18] Matty: Okay. So monkey guys. So when you monkey bar, and you all know this, but I'm just painting the okay. Well, you might be good at this version as well. So you hold on to one bar and then you swing and get to the other bar. And then not until you grab the other bar do you let go of the previous bar. So monkey-barring is exactly that in relationship terms, so that when somebody sees their relationship potentially coming to an end or they want to end it, they don't end it right away. They get another love interest and make that connection and build it so that they when they do leave the other relationship, wow, they don't have a period of time in which they are like, I guess, single or unhappy in their mind. So they they build their second relationship and then let go. Yeah. Instead of letting go and then going out there.
[30:16] Megan: Can we say Ariana Grande?
[30:19] Matty: Well did she monkey bar?
[30:21] Megan: Constantly.
[30:22] Matty: Oh, oh, but so did Taylor Swift.
[30:25] Megan: Yeah, probably. I don't know.
[30:26] Matty: But you guys are saying basically, if you are monkey-barring, these are accusations you're making about. 100%. They are in two relationships at the same time. Is that what you guys are saying? That's what it is.
[30:37] Megan: Oh, I didn't think they were you hadn't you weren't full blown in the new relationship. You've got a new person on the line that you're interested in.
[30:45] Matty: Before you let go of the last one. So I don't think you're in the tail end of one and the beginning of another. Yeah, I don't know that you've simultaneously. Otherwise, you wouldn't be monkey-barring.
[30:54] Megan: I'm not a in my mind, the monkey-barring is not you've crossed the line romantically sexually with the new person, but you've got the new love interest on the line and are ready to go. So then when you finally end your first relationship, you jump right in.
[31:12] Matty: That's baby monkey. That's good. There we go.
[31:21] JJ: I wouldn't say Ariana. I do and baby monkey.
[31:27] Megan: So she's constantly one after the other. Like there is no time, no anything.
[31:33] JJ: I know.
[31:34] Megan: She left her marriage. She was with the wicked guy. She ended the wicked guy. Now she's back with an old boyfriend. Yeah, I don't know their names, but I see her. I see her roster.
[31:44] JJ: You're orbiting her. You're an orbiter.
[31:46] Megan: I didn't date her no more. I can't orbit her if I didn't date her. Oh God. I'm monitoring. I see that.
[31:53] Host: Yeah.
[31:54] Matty: I've never monkey barred. Have you monkey barred? Never.
[31:58] JJ: I don't think I could do that.
[31:59] Matty: I don't either. I think I would need a clear break and wanna break, quite honestly, in between relationships.
[32:05] Megan: But I see people around me that literally do seem to go from relationship to relationship to relationship.
[32:13] JJ: So it's like bar-hopping, but for relationships.
[32:16] Megan: Well, it kind of ties into wildflowering. And wildflowering is sort of this new kind of younger generation thing, which is that they're like just trying to let connections grow naturally and follow the vibe and see where things go. I mean, they're trying to say, oh, this is a healthier way to date. But in my opinion, it's like you don't really know what you want, and you're not able to like your commitment phobic. So you're just trying to give it a cute name to say, oh, I'm just feeling the vibe, and we'll just see what happens. Like, no, at some point you gotta stop wildflowering and like make a commitment and be in a relationship.
[32:54] Matty: So wildflowering is just like I I I associate it with like free love and hippiness and just organic. Kind of I feel like it's that vibe. I don't need to like put uh descriptions or labels on DTR.
[33:12] Megan: I'm not DTR.
[33:14] Matty: Down to date, down to date. Define the relationship. Oh, define you don't know that term.
[33:19] Megan: DTR. Is that it?
[33:20] JJ: We know DTF.
[33:21] Matty: Yeah, that's what I like.
[33:22] Megan: DTR is define the relationship.
[33:25] JJ: Oh yeah, wildflowers. I'm not a big wildflower person.
[33:30] Megan: Well, it I mean, no. Like I'm all about feeling the vibe and let things happen naturally. But at some point, if we're liking each other, we need a commitment.
[33:38] Matty: But I mean, at what point though? Because I kind of I'm good, I'm down with wildflowering to s extent.
[33:45] Megan: Like I guess I don't if I'm sleeping with you, I don't want you sleeping with other people.
[33:51] JJ: It's like a full commitment though. Like it's just like you in the middle of a monkey bar.
[33:57] Megan: No lie. I don't monkey bar.
[34:02] JJ: Yeah, but wildflower could be also monkey-barring. It's yeah, I mean you could say jumping from one to the other. But then you if they land on it, sure. I'm like, I'm just let me let me just milk this, literally, yeah, and then move to the other line.
[34:17] Matty: Yeah. have you got in your hand?
[34:19] JJ: Have you noticed?
[34:20] Matty: I yeah, I'm noticing it.
[34:23] JJ: So this is something that I want to show up. It's this also let's just work our muscle of the forearm. The forearm is like actually very important muscle. Sometimes we forget about it. The same way that some guys forget to do upper body and not lower body on the gym. Have you seen those big guys with like skinny legs?
[34:45] Matty: It's so weird to me.
[34:46] Megan: But I think some of it is they can't build up those muscles and the legs.
[34:51] JJ: That's not it. It's because they focus on the upper because the upper, I mean, you can cover the pants with pants and things like that. The upper body gives you more. The um um forearms are very important because it helps you with like things like pull-ups, deadlifts.
[35:06] Matty: Oh, I'm not doing any. I'm not doing any fucking pull-ups and deadlifts.
[35:10] JJ: Well, you both have noticed me this. Like, I think that this, I mean, since I'm working from home, I usually have uh um hand gripper right next to me.
[35:21] Matty: Is that what this is?
[35:21] JJ: Yeah, I'm hand gripper.
[35:23] Matty: Oh, I thought it was a hand gripper.
[35:25] JJ: Hand gripper, yeah.
[35:26] Matty: Some people hand or arm?
[35:28] JJ: Hand.
[35:28] Megan: Hand gripper.
[35:29] JJ: Okay, it's your hand gripping.
[35:31] Megan: But is I thought it works your arm. Oh, but I thought it gave you good hand muscles, so it helps your grip.
[35:37] Matty: It helps you being able to open chip bags. Which is can get tough.
[35:43] JJ: But I think that about you know about this that you can actually um change the strength that you have to tell people that are listening and not watching, because you are showing it up to the street. So this is uh literally like a hand gripper. Like you, and we can we can put uh you know a video of it and we can just put it on our post as well. It is pretty much just an exercise little tool that you could use while you really. I mean, I use it while I'm in my home working, working really. Like I'd be in a meeting and I grab it right next to me and then just start.
[36:18] Matty: Grip it.
[36:19] JJ: Gripping it. Gripping it like 100%. You can hear, like you can hear the little clicking. I hear it. And also the clicking. Is it colour in your right here? Like, yeah. Oh, yeah. And I can reset it if I want to reset it. So club. Yeah. So I think so.
[36:32] Megan: When I did it, I wasn't clicking. Oh, you have to click. I couldn't do it already.
[36:36] Matty: Oh, you couldn't click it. Oh, then you better start out with a baby gripper.
[36:42] JJ: Oh, yeah.
[36:43] Matty: I I see that if I do this, oh yeah.
[36:46] JJ: Let's do now.
[36:48] Matty: Oh is that easier or harder? Harder.
[36:51] JJ: Oh, so is that a daddy gripper?
[36:53] Matty: This is yeah, this is like, oh, this will help me with my monkey barring.
[36:59] JJ: Yeah.
[36:59] Matty: So I think this is good. My dad has this. Yeah.
[37:02] JJ: And we bonded over that.
[37:04] Matty: Oh, really? Oh, wow. Look at you. I need one. I need to get one. How much is that?
[37:10] JJ: Only $8.
[37:11] Matty: Oh, wow. Yeah.
[37:12] JJ: And we found a good deal that we're gonna put it on Linktree. It's a twofer. We love a twofer.
[37:18] Matty: Yeah. What do you mean? You get two of them for the price of one?
[37:20] JJ: Two of them for the price of one. Well, you can double $12.99.
[37:23] Megan: $12.99. You can do both hands. Two at once. Both hands at once, which is handy.
[37:28] Matty: Which is handy, Megan.
[37:30] JJ: Yeah, an arm gripper. I think it, I mean, you guys have seen me around with this. I think I brought it to the cabin, didn't I?
[37:38] Megan: I see what they can't do. Let's just put it out there.
[37:42] JJ: So why not?
[37:42] Megan: Like, well, if you're like pumping out four recording at five in the morning. Yeah.
[37:47] JJ: Depending on what arm I'm showing, this is it. Yeah. Hand gripper.
[37:52] Megan: I can't with that.
[37:53] Matty: Yeah. This is two eps in a row where you've been doing some tank tap work.
[37:59] Megan: Oh my gosh. I can't.
[38:01] Host: Well.
[38:02] JJ: So yeah, I think that it's a good one. We're gonna have it in the Linktree.
[38:05] Megan: Yes.
[38:05] JJ: Um, this is the we are at the tail end of the summer.
[38:09] Megan: Yeah, get your forearms ready to go.
[38:11] JJ: Ready to go. Yeah.
[38:12] Matty: For shoveling season.
[38:13] Megan: Yep.
[38:14] JJ: Shoveling season, yeah. 100%.
[38:16] Matty: What's what is the actual brand name? Was it the gripper? What this one is called? The gripper?
[38:22] JJ: This one is not called the ripper.
[38:23] Matty: Do you know do you know what that brand is the name of it?
[38:25] JJ: FitBeast. FitBeast. Yes. This is it. FitBeast. Yeah. 100%. Okay.
[38:32] Megan: Okay. Check it out on our Linktree. Get yourself your forearms. Winter ready.
[38:39] JJ: 100%.
[38:39] Megan: And with that, I think it's a little bit of time to get into our Slip It Ins and pull it out. Well, I'm ready to go. So there's no time. It's now. Slip It Ins, the things we love, Pull It Outs, the things that are annoying us.
[38:54] JJ: Can I start?
[38:55] Megan: Yeah, go right ahead.
[38:56] JJ: I'm gonna start with my Slip It In because it kind of ties in into what we talked about a little bit. I forgot how scary but gratifying it is. It's a solo date. I did it last weekend. Went in, stepped into the bar, ordered myself an espresso martini, ordered a full meal, started a conversation with the bartender. A few people came in. At the end of the day, my heart was full. I had a great time. And I think that people should do that more often.
[39:31] Megan: What bar or did you go to a restaurant?
[39:33] JJ: The Beverly in Berkley.
[39:34] Megan: Oh, you went to the Beverly then there. Yeah.
[39:36] JJ: Very good espresso martini. Yeah. Very good. And very good French fries. So I started with my espresso martini and fries.
[39:48] Matty: And our espresso and fry journey. Is it let's just say, would you put it in the top three? No, no, no. Top five. Top five.
[39:56] JJ: Top five. Yeah. So that's that's something that I really, really enjoyed. I mean, it's a very scary. You know, that's like stepping out of your comfort zone.
[40:05] Matty: But once you're in it.
[40:06] JJ: Once you're in it, it's like so like. And everybody, I mean, I think that people know, especially like when you're having just a drink, people are like, oh, you're having just a drink because you're meeting somebody else. But when you're having a drink and a meal comes in, I could see like the bartender clocking it.
[40:23] Host: Oh.
[40:24] JJ: They're like, oh, this guy is just having. And he asked. It's like, are you here by yourself? Yep, I'm just here by myself having dinner.
[40:32] Matty: Well, it also sometimes can not in your case, uh, but it can signal somebody traveling too.
[40:39] Host: Correct.
[40:39] JJ: Oh, that's true.
[40:40] Matty: Speaking of all the travel that we're talking about, like you're because like if you're traveling for work or uh, you know, whatever, and you could be just out of your hotel, yeah, grabbing a bite, and that's the most times when I would do that for work. Yeah. That I'd find out. So why not do it in your own? I know. Why not do it?
[41:00] Megan: I don't I don't like it.
[41:01] JJ: Yeah, I mean I you have a partner, so it's different.
[41:05] Megan: Well, no, okay. So you were really looking to meet someone then?
[41:08] JJ: No, no.
[41:09] Megan: Well then why is it different? Shouldn't be different.
[41:12] JJ: If you weren't going to meet someone, because you have the option of your partner going out with you.
[41:18] Matty: I don't have the choose that as your option. I don't have the option. So his option is either I don't go out and get away.
[41:24] JJ: Yeah, and stay home and watch TV.
[41:26] Megan: Yeah.
[41:26] JJ: Or I just force myself to go out and but if you have a busy partner. Well, well, that's on you.
[41:33] Megan: Well, okay, but I'm just saying I can't always if I want to go out and they are eating.
[41:37] JJ: I want you to hear my side of things as a single person.
[41:41] Megan: Yeah, I understand. I've been there, but and I've done it before, but yeah, it's not my preference. And lots of times, even when I'm traveling for work, I'm like, oh, I should go down at the bar or go sit and then I'm like, you know what? Room service. I know. I know.
[41:57] Host: It's just easier at the same time. I know.
[42:00] Megan: And room service is so much nicer. Especially when you're working, because you can order whatever you want.
[42:04] Matty: You don't have to, it's just expensive.
[42:06] Megan: Well, and the other thing is sometimes after you've been on all day at like work stuff when you're traveling for work, you're like, the last thing I want to do is go sit down there and like small talk it up with people.
[42:17] JJ: I was not at work, was not working, it was not a work night. I made a decision. I really loved it.
[42:23] Megan: Was that bartender handsome?
[42:25] Host: No.
[42:26] Matty: I also endorse uh solo traveling, which I have done very little of, but the couple times I've done it, again, it's the same thing. It's anxiety producing when I think about looking at travel. And some in some regards I find it a little sad and depressing because I'm like, I like to experience something with another person, friend or family or whatever. But um purchasing it and and saying to yourself, wow, I'm doing this by myself. But then I've both times it was amazing, and I loved it, and it felt really like uh freeing in some way. Like you, you know, you when you travel with somebody, you're compromising in some ways and trying to have a shared experience and allow each of us to do our you're like get those activities in. And in this case, it's like I am accountable to nobody on this truck. Yeah, I do whatever I want when I want.
[43:23] JJ: 100%. So my pull it out, I'm gonna keep it short because I didn't even think that this whole solo day was gonna take this as much.
[43:31] Host: That's fine. We got time.
[43:33] JJ: Uh I've said this, I've said this before that one of my biggest Slip It In is me being able to wake up every morning and make my own bed. My make my bed. Um, my pull it out though is if that day I'm doing laundry and I forget to do the bed right before bedtime.
[43:51] Matty: Oh. I love this. I know this. Yes, I hate it.
[43:55] JJ: I go with my day. I'm excited. Hobby S. Sometimes it just aligns with the long day.
[44:02] Host: Yeah.
[44:03] JJ: And when I am about to go to bed, I'm like, fuck. My sheets are still on the dryer. And it's like 10:30. I'm not in the best mood at that point.
[44:17] Matty: No. And you just want to crawl into bed.
[44:20] JJ: There's been times that I've thought, can I just sleep with like a bare mattress like that? And it's not the best experience, but that is a Pull It Out.
[44:30] Matty: That is a I also on the bottom of my when I do my fitted sheet, I have these three clips that I clip. I should do it as a product review. But that is even more intense. So it's not just putting on the fitted sheet. I have to Lyft up the mattress and clip shit.
[44:46] Megan: And then just why is your fitted sheet coming off your back?
[44:48] Matty: I like a very tight fitted sheet. I don't like wrinkles to get into it. Yeah, no, I understand. Really tight. Yeah. I like a tight.
[44:57] Megan: I had those same issues and I find I just I bought a second set.
[45:02] JJ: I have a second set. I have like 20 sets. Yeah, I have many sets. Oh, you just don't want to. But sometimes just not like that. For example, this summer, I have a favorite one.
[45:10] Megan: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[45:11] JJ: That I it's like one of those cooling ones. Yeah.
[45:15] Matty: But it isn't it less about how many sheets you have in just a day that you forgot to make it earlier in the year.
[45:20] Megan: Regardless of it, well, if you have the second set, you could take one off and immediately put it on.
[45:25] JJ: Yeah, but I don't have time in the morning to do that.
[45:28] Megan: Oh God, no, you got to get to Well, I will go. I'm gonna start with my pull it out.
[45:40] Host: Look at you.
[45:41] Megan: So my pull it out is when you're gonna take an Uber or a Lyft and it's time dependent. So you're trying to get to the airport or you're trying to get to an appointment, and you look and you're like, I always start pulling it up within the hour of when I'm gonna leave and start checking times of like, okay, planning when to order it, whatever. Then you're like, oh, it's all these drivers, five minutes. Okay. So then you order it and they're like, oh, you'll, you know, this is your projected time frame for your travels. Well, then they're like, oh, waiting to assign a driver, waiting to assign a driver, waiting to assign a driver. Then they like can't find a driver, then they find a driver, and now you're like 10 minutes in for something when the Uber was supposed to be there five minutes ago. And then you're like, okay, perfect. They're gonna be there 10 more minutes. Okay, fine. Now I'm like 15 minutes behind the schedule. I had already planned out. Then they cancel you.
[46:35] JJ: Yeah, I've experienced that so many times.
[46:37] Megan: It's so frustrating. So I had that situation today, and then I'm like, well, screw you, Uber. Oh, and so then I go to Lyft. Yes, that'll do and Lyft. Well, to be honest, when I'm gonna book an Uber Lyft, I do I go to both apps first, and whoever's cheaper is the one I go with.
[46:56] JJ: Yeah, same.
[46:56] Megan: So in this case, Uber have that lunch.
[46:58] JJ: Uber yeah, well we'll unpack that later.
[47:04] Megan: I Uber was cheaper, so then I'm like, screw you. I go to Lyft. Lyft, the driver was there in five minutes, yeah. And he drove like a bat out of hell, so it really didn't hold me back too much. But anyway, so my Slip It In is Lyft.
[47:21] Host: Oh pull it out to Uber and my Slip It In.
[47:25] Megan: Uber, out, Lyft, in. But I will say for anyone who flies Delta, oh yeah, Lyft, Uber, you can get Delta miles for all your rides, and then Lyft, you can get United miles. Oh so uh tie your United uh mileage plus account to Lyft.
[47:45] JJ: 100%.
[47:46] Megan: So I feel like it's a win-win, regardless of which one I have to use, but Uber's kind of on my shit list right now.
[47:52] Matty: Oh okay. I have American Express, and if you tie your Lyft to your American Express, you get a $10 credit three time up to three times a month.
[48:01] Megan: Oh, nice. Yeah.
[48:02] Matty: So there's another PSA Pro. Yeah to Okay, my Slip It In is not really that exciting. I don't expect this to do gangbusters, but we were talking about never know, Matty. We were talking, you don't. You just don't know how something's gonna land. Yeah, but we were talking about slang words or just words earlier. And this do you guys have a favorite word? Just a word like you just love. Maybe it'll come to you at some point. But I just love the word pedestrian when describing I like that too. Not a person, not like a pedestrian as in a walker. That doesn't excite me, but when I describe something, it's like oh that outfit. It's so pedestrian.
[48:45] Megan: Yes.
[48:45] Matty: I don't think I've ever used it that way.
[48:47] Megan: It's it's like low class, it's like saying someone's white trash.
[48:51] JJ: It's so you know I'm gonna use it in a sentence.
[48:53] Matty: Do you like it? Don't you like? Oh my god, look at that.
[48:56] Megan: I think it's a kind of like a high class, I think even like Brits use it a lot. Like it's very pedestrian. Yeah, my favorite word is shenanigans.
[49:06] Matty: Oh, I do love shenanigans, and I like to say shenanigans.
[49:08] Megan: It is, yeah.
[49:10] Matty: But pedestrian, JJ, embrace it. Yeah. I did not intend this, but when we were talking about orbiting, and I said Megan was doing drive-bys in her wig. And an abandoned wig is my pull it out. I have, and it's happened to me more than once, but on my way to work this week on Tuesday. JJ, I saw an abandoned wig.
[49:38] Megan: Are you driving down eight mile or something?
[49:40] Matty: No, I was Congress. I was getting on Congress and there was a She had a fun night. A wig. And it it makes me immediately think, no.
[49:52] Megan: Oh, I think prostitute.
[49:54] Matty: Let me have to delete. She went eight mile and then prostituted. I know something else. But I feel like there's a sad story behind that abandoned where. There is. Did she have a bad night? Or did he have a bad night? I think she had a fun. But I don't know. I think it's a bad night. If you had to leave your wig behind, I feel sad. And that wig has a story, and I want to know it. And it's a sad, sad, pull it out story. So next time you see an abandoned wig, you know, extend some love. Somebody had somebody had a bad night. Yeah, I guess so.
