Questions or Comments: Slip It In Here!
Melissa returns for her fifth appearance as Matty, Megan and JJ take time to remember Dolly Parton, sharing the personal connections and unexpected moments that made her feel larger than music. Megan brings Eminem’s story about the handwritten note Dolly sent after their 2022 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction, Matty and JJ revisit hearing Brandi Carlile and I’m With Her perform “Coat of Many Colors” just days before Dolly’s passing, and Melissa reveals that she actually met Dolly as a child at the Lowell Showboat.
The remembrance moves through Dollywood, the Imagination Library and “My Place in History,” the unreleased song sealed away until 2046, before Matty steers the table into tropical cyclone names, retired names and the strange places their own names have appeared in storm history.
Then Melissa takes over with a story from Megan’s remote cabin near the Au Sable River. A monster truck arrives after dark with a GPS pin, an angry passenger and a supposed delivery to a campground across the river. The order turns out to be a tiny bundle of firewood, cash changes hands in the dark, Melissa starts sneaking through the woods with her phone camera, and six pieces of wood become enough evidence for the group to debate whether the delivery was really as innocent as it looked.

on this-weeks episode we definitely needed to honor Dolly Parton, didn't we? and we took the time and we took the
Megan (00:04)
Absolutely.
Matty (00:05)
Yeah, hundred hundred.
JJ (00:06)
time to do that. I mean I think probably it's just the beginning of many episodes that we were gonna
Matty (00:10)
More to come.
JJ (00:11)
talk about our queen Dolly Parton.
Megan (00:13)
Yes, and it kind of got sideways when we
JJ (00:16)
Dead.
Megan (00:17)
randomly found out we
Matty (00:18)
Mm.
Megan (00:19)
were breaking up a drug ring on the Au Sable River.
Matty (00:23)
with Melissa, our five time most frequented guest, at the center of the drama that unfolded on the Au Sable. She joins us to tell the story. Tune in.

Don't we slip it in again?
Megan (00:50)
Welcome, welcome, welcome everyone. We are back, slipping it in with you, bringing you the unhinged brunch conversation that you just can't stop listening to. I'm Megan and I'm here with Matty and JJ. And
JJ (01:04)
Hello?
Megan (01:05)
today we also have Melissa, our not-so-west Michigan correspondent, back with us again. Hello.
JJ (01:09)
She is back.
Matty (01:10)
Ha ha ha.
Melissa (01:12)
Hello.
Matty (01:15)
Is this your is this your five like do you get the jacket? Do you get the equivalent of the Saturday Night Live jacket? Are we at four or five?
Melissa (01:20)
The five times but I've been monitoring the front door all day. There's been no doorbell rings. There's been no delivery. So I'm a little disappointed.
Matty (01:28)
Well, are we at four
Megan (01:29)
Well
Matty (01:29)
or five? We are at five. All right, you guys. Let's get her a greeting card. Let's get her a greeting card.
Melissa (01:31)
Five.
JJ (01:32)
It's five. You are five. Wow.
Melissa (01:37)
Thank you.
JJ (01:40)
We're happy that you're here, Melissa. But it's been a little bit of a sad, a little bit over a week, sad week for all of us.
Matty (01:47)
A lot of sad.
JJ (01:48)
I wish my I I wish my nails will play a little bit for Dolly right now. You can hear it.
Matty (01:52)
I can hear I can hear it, yes.
JJ (01:56)
so yeah, we're saddened by the passing of our dear butterfly, Dolly Parton. and we we honor her every day and every moment. She's she left a mark on us for sure. That's why I'm wearing my little
Matty (02:09)
I'm honoring her.
JJ (02:10)
overall of many colours with the sequin for her.
Megan (02:14)
I love it.
Matty (02:15)
Love it. And I am wearing this combo. I don't know if people know this, but sh her favorite color is white. White is her favorite color because she looks best in white on stage. And she's like, pink is not my favorite color. Pink is my persona. So I'm wearing a white shirt and a pink hat that bridges authentic dolly with persona dolly.
Melissa (02:40)
cute. That's nice.
Megan (02:41)
we're a Detroit-based podcast, I feel like we have to talk about Eminem's tribute to Dolly, which is one that like I loved reading all these tributes that all the celebrities have been writing about and
JJ (02:56)
Yeah.
Megan (02:56)
their stories. But this one from Eminem was so interesting because what I didn't realize is Eminem and Dolly were both inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022 together. But at the time, they never met. So after the induction ceremony, Dolly sent Eminem a handwritten letter and she wrote, Congratulations on your induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Your performance was amazing and everyone said so. Even though I don't know a lot about rap music, I've come to know that you are the very best at it. Aside from that, I hope what I have to say will not seem weird or strange to you. But I've always felt some unexplained connection to you like I know you somehow. I'd hope to meet you at the show, but you know how nuts those things are. Personally, I hate and I missed my chance, but maybe someday we'll meet. In the meantime, keep doing what you're doing because you do it so well. And no matter how complex your world may be, just know you are very special and touch people in ways you don't even know. And so Eminem posted.
Melissa (04:04)
That's so sweet.
Megan (04:05)
I know. I'm sorry we never got
Matty (04:06)
It's really sweet.
Megan (04:07)
a chance to meet, but getting this note from Dolly really had an impact on me. She definitely didn't have to take the time to do it. And even for a kid who mostly listened to rap music, she was an icon, a superstar in every sense. Rest easy, Dolly, and thank you for the kind words. Yeah, so I know it's so amazing. Yeah.
Melissa (04:25)
that's really loose. I didn't y I didn't see that.
JJ (04:25)
my god Me too.
Matty (04:25)
Well I have goosebumps. She
Melissa (04:30)
That is.
Matty (04:30)
A lot of stories are coming out around this type of generosity that she would show. Like she
Megan (04:36)
Yes.
Matty (04:36)
would make a an effort after somebody she met somebody or somebody reached a milestone, she may not have known them. She was, you know, just constantly extending kindness and grace. It's just we've really lost.
JJ (04:52)
Yeah. Yeah, and a few days a few days before Dolly's passing, Matt Matty and I were able to go and see Brandi Carlile in concert. and near the end of the the show, they sang well, Brandi alongside I'm With Her, the band I'm With Her, which we've never heard of. Beautiful, and great band.
Matty (05:14)
Trio.
JJ (05:15)
they were able a trio, yeah. They were able to sing together a colour a coat of many colors. and it was just beautiful.
Matty (05:23)
I love that song so much. Like it's just I mean, it's basically an autobiography written into a song about her life. And I think people are familiar with it, so we don't have to dive into it. But when she was setting up the song, Brandi said that Dolly recently said, My little butterfly wings are getting tired, which just was like heart melt, you know, like everyone's heart melted in in the the hill that we were on listening to the music, which that was a statement she made because of like four days prior, she wasn't able to make the grand opening of her NightFlight Expedition, which is this grandiose ride at Dollywood. And so rather than just not show, she came in via video and she's like, sorry, can't make it. Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
JJ (06:15)
She was wearing butterflies and the video. She was like wearing her butterflies, yeah.
Matty (06:20)
Sorry I can't make it, but my little butterfly wings are getting tired. And little did we know they were definitely getting a little tired. But that was a n that's a moment, especially upon reflection. Like it was a moment in when we were hearing Brandi sing her song, but then you know, here we are one week later, basically one week. So that's tough.
Melissa (06:42)
So Dolly was the first and one of the only celebrities I actually met in person.
Matty (06:51)
Shut up, you did?
JJ (06:52)
Yeah.
Melissa (06:53)
Yes. So I'm from the same
Matty (06:55)
I didn't know that.
Melissa (06:57)
town as Megan and Matt. We grew up in a very small town. And in the town we grew up in, they had a showboat.
Megan (07:06)
Mm-hmm.
Melissa (07:06)
And the showboat would bring in
Matty (07:09)
my god, I wonder if I was there.
Melissa (07:11)
celebrities and they would like have big shows. And my dad was
JJ (07:16)
That's insane.
Melissa (07:18)
on the showboat committee, which gave him like backdoor like access to everything show boat. So Dolly Parton performed there in late
JJ (07:30)
my God.
Melissa (07:31)
seventies and I don't know for sure when. I was very little, but I remember my dad taking we got to go into the green room on the showboat. And well, like it and maybe it wasn't a green room that we know today.
Megan (07:42)
how fun.
Matty (07:42)
God. The showboat had a green room in the seventies. right, it's fine. It's your story.
Megan (07:46)
yes. Yeah, it did.
JJ (07:47)
Ha ha ha.
Melissa (07:52)
But it was a room where all of the singers would jazz themselves up for the show. So my dad took me like up the stairs and we knocked on the door and she
Matty (08:04)
my god.
Melissa (08:06)
I just remember being so like awestruck, but I was nervous too. And I was little and I was holding my dad's hand and I feel like I kind of was even like standing behind my dad's
JJ (08:15)
Wow.
Melissa (08:16)
leg. And she turned over and she was in a chair with like The big mirror with like all the lights like around the
JJ (08:23)
Yeah.
Melissa (08:24)
mirror, how it used to be And she was so
JJ (08:25)
Like a little cabaret.
Melissa (08:26)
sweet and her accent and she was talking to my dad. And I think there's probably other people in there too, but I just I'll never forget that. And then we got
JJ (08:35)
my god.
Melissa (08:36)
to go and sit like in one of the first rows to watch her performance movie. It sure does. Who knew?
Matty (08:41)
Wow, pays to be on the showboat committee. I mean, I'm gonna I am
Megan (08:43)
Yes, yes.
Matty (08:46)
I'm gonna ask my
Megan (08:47)
Well, who knew sh
Matty (08:48)
dad because I mean I lived two blocks from the showboat. And I would go
Melissa (08:53)
You sure did.
Matty (08:54)
to the showboat all tell Franny we said hi that I heard her barking. we didn't even
Melissa (08:57)
Yeah, sorry about that. Yep, crannies. Sorry.
JJ (08:58)
Yeah.
Matty (08:59)
tell our listeners like this is the first time we're all in different locations, which is crazy. But anyway,
Melissa (09:03)
Yes. Yeah.
JJ (09:03)
Yeah.
Matty (09:05)
so like I went to all these showboat shows, but I don't I mean, my dad wasn't on. Committee. So I was. I could
Melissa (09:11)
You were probably there or you could have heard the show.
Matty (09:14)
have been there. I wondered too if I saw her at the Ionia Free Fair. No, the Ionia Free Fair? She used to like, but I did see her at the Fox Theater in Detroit. So I didn't meet her, but yeah. Correct. Like,
JJ (09:24)
you did.
Melissa (09:24)
As an adult. As an adult, not as a child, right?
Matty (09:29)
it was yeah, yeah, it was back in Oct, it was October 27, 2005, at the Fox, which
Melissa (09:36)
Okay.
JJ (09:36)
wow.
Matty (09:36)
was the last time she performed at the
Megan (09:39)
Well, she was not the performer when I was the first runner up in the showboat pageant. So had she been, I would have been able to meet met her. And there is a green room. it was some weird band.
Matty (09:50)
I'm shy my gosh.
Melissa (09:52)
the performer. Who is the performer, Megan? This run around?
Megan (09:56)
I have pictures with the guys,
JJ (09:57)
my god.
Megan (09:59)
but I don't remember their name. I'd have to look it up.
Matty (10:02)
I remember this
Melissa (10:02)
Was it the Oak Ridge
JJ (10:02)
Who do?
Melissa (10:03)
Boys? I feel like the Oak Ridge Boys.
Megan (10:04)
N no, they were y I don't know, they No,
Matty (10:06)
Conway Twitty. Conway Twitty.
Megan (10:09)
I don't even remember. I could yeah I have no idea. Loretta Lynn, I would have remembered. No, it was no one that was that big.
Matty (10:11)
I well I rem I remember you making a run for the cro
Melissa (10:12)
Loretta Lynn. I mean the list goes.
Matty (10:18)
I remember you making a run for the crown. I remember my god.
Megan (10:21)
Yeah. Mm-hmm. But
Melissa (10:22)
god,
JJ (10:22)
Louise
Melissa (10:22)
I've loved.
JJ (10:23)
Mandrill.
Megan (10:23)
we got but we got to ride the showboat and hang out with the performers in the green room. There were dressing rooms. So yeah.
JJ (10:31)
That's how she knew, Matty that there was a green room.
Matty (10:31)
Wow. So wait, are you I was gonna
Melissa (10:32)
So she knows about the green room. I didn't know Megan
Matty (10:35)
say
Megan (10:35)
I know.
Melissa (10:35)
would known firsthand.
Matty (10:36)
so you're validating this green room existed it on the on the shellboat. Okay. I'm aware of what a green room is, but I didn't I just didn't Okay. All right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right.
Megan (10:39)
Yes, you that's the yeah, it's where you hang out backstage, basically. Well you Yes, exactly. And
JJ (10:40)
Yes. Ha ha ha.
Melissa (10:47)
Showboat had one, Matt.
Megan (10:53)
FYI green rooms aren't always green, but they're always called a green room. So no green carpet necessary.
Matty (10:57)
that's that's that
JJ (10:56)
That's that's yeah.
Melissa (10:59)
And one more FYI Matt, Megan and I all graduated on the showboat as well. That's where the graduation ceremonies were for
Megan (11:06)
Jobo. Correct. Yes.
Matty (11:07)
Showboat. Yep. This showboat
JJ (11:07)
Yeah.
Melissa (11:10)
our high school.
JJ (11:11)
Ha ha
Matty (11:11)
This showboat
Megan (11:11)
Ha ha ha.
Matty (11:12)
played a big role in our upbringing. One hundred. I actually I
JJ (11:16)
Wow.
Megan (11:15)
god.
Matty (11:16)
actually well, we're getting off on a tangent, but I was with a couple of friends where we c
JJ (11:19)
Yeah, as we usually do.
Melissa (11:19)
Yeah.
Matty (11:21)
we climbed the fences and we skipped got on the showboat. I mean, so this was
Megan (11:27)
Well, I was on it legitimately. I don't know that you had to climb the fence. There wasn't much
Melissa (11:30)
You warm again.
Matty (11:30)
I I
JJ (11:30)
Guess you were in the page.
Megan (11:32)
to g hang out on. I can't believe you wasted your time with that.
Matty (11:34)
I well, I mean,
JJ (11:34)
Yeah.
Matty (11:37)
it was more about the the challenge. Can
Megan (11:40)
Mm.
JJ (11:40)
You know what was very interesting? that just a a day, I think the day of a few days before Dolly Parton's past, Matty and I had a pl we were planning a trip and talk about serendipity, which we talked about on the pod before.
Melissa (11:57)
Yeah.
JJ (11:58)
we our plans fell through about our trip. But then we were going through it because you know Matty has a Delta Pass and he needs to get the companion pass before the end of September.
Matty (12:08)
And you all know it
Melissa (12:09)
benefited last year from that.
Megan (12:11)
I know. I don't know why you wait till the end of the year to do it. You should plan it in the beginning.
Matty (12:11)
September thirtieth. I don't either. I don't either. And I'm always putting pressure on one of you. Not you meeting, because you always have a pass and you can pop in. But I might call
JJ (12:20)
Yeah. But the interesting
Megan (12:22)
I got I can join the trip.
Matty (12:26)
you and be like, We got we got two weeks to plan this trip.
JJ (12:28)
Yes, I know. But the interesting
Matty (12:31)
Yeah, yeah.
JJ (12:32)
thing is that Matty's giving me the list of some of the flights that Chat GPT recommendations, you know, he's he has a love relationship with ChatGPT, but that's a side note.
Matty (12:42)
Well
JJ (12:45)
the thing is that he said Shat Chat
Matty (12:46)
You're gonna get a flight out of it.
JJ (12:47)
he that's sure. He said Chattanooga, Tennessee was one of them. And for some reason, I don't know why, my first thought to Matty was like, have we have you ever been to Dollywood? I've never been. I wonder how far is it from Chattanooga to Dollywood?
Matty (13:02)
Well, yeah. You said is that close to Dollywood? Because I have been to Dollywood when I was very young. I don't but
JJ (13:08)
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Matty (13:12)
and I'm like, I don't know, great question. I would love to go because I'd also really love to go to the Smoky Mountains, which I have not ever done. So it Chattanooga, I don't
JJ (13:19)
Yeah, yeah. And then we left it at that.
Matty (13:23)
well, actually Chattanooga, I don't think was the closest airport. It said Knoxville, but Knoxville
JJ (13:25)
Well no, not sell.
Matty (13:28)
was on the list. So we're like, my God, it's 45 minute drive, let's lock it in. And we didn't. We said, well, let's talk about it in a couple of days because we were both working it in between meetings. And then a half an hour later, the news broke. I mean, it's really weird. And I said, JJ, I think this is
Melissa (13:48)
And
JJ (13:43)
Minutes later. yeah. Yeah. I mean we still wanna plan it, but yeah.
Matty (13:51)
I'm like, this is serendipitous. And I think it was like meant to be we should lock this in. But
JJ (13:59)
Yeah.
Matty (13:59)
So far you guys I'm still in jeopardy of losing the pass. It has not been
JJ (14:02)
Hello!
Matty (14:02)
but
Megan (14:03)
When do you have to use it by?
Melissa (14:04)
You better get on it.
Matty (14:04)
I have
JJ (14:04)
By thirty
Matty (14:05)
to
JJ (14:05)
first, September thirty first. Wrap it up.
Matty (14:07)
That's why Missy and I went to New
Melissa (14:08)
Well September
Matty (14:09)
York last year.
Melissa (14:09)
thirty. There's not thirty one days in September, so
JJ (14:11)
Well
Melissa (14:12)
September thirty.
Matty (14:14)
The more you know.
JJ (14:14)
Thirty. I don't know. What thirty first and thirties. Yeah. One of those days.
Matty (14:17)
Speaking of dates, speaking of dates, I have to say
Megan (14:21)
Mm-hmm.
Matty (14:21)
this. And Dolly and dates. So her big song, obviously everyone knows, is nine to five. But if you look at that, translate that into a calendar date, that's September 25th, 925. It's really weird, I think, that we are like now less than one month away from that date coming around. And I was thinking to myself, like, I wonder if they'll do something on that.
JJ (14:47)
Mm.
Matty (14:47)
actual date because it's so close and and so I guess the Tennessee state Senator Jessie Seal today proposed legislation to designate September 25th as nine to five day in Dolly's honor. So I think
JJ (15:04)
That's awesome.
Melissa (15:05)
No, I love that.
Matty (15:07)
I And the other thing I have to say is I talked last time about the moth. events that I went to.
Melissa (15:12)
Yes.
Matty (15:13)
And I always have to really quick say it's just like a storytelling event. That's all I'll say so we don't dwell on it, but it's in the last episode.
JJ (15:20)
Watch watch some of the episodes before and see if you if you're interested
Matty (15:23)
Yeah.
JJ (15:24)
in the math.
Matty (15:25)
But ever the premise is every month they have a new topic and they tell stories around it. Well, these topics are picked well in advance. And I was telling, I think I even said it on the podcast, but I if not, I said it to you all that the n September's is nine to five. The topic is nine to five. And even Megan, I remember you're being like, I don't serendipity is much better. And I agree because nine to five, I'm like, and I said, you know, I think in the literal sense, it's your workday. So there'll be a lot of stories about your workday. But like, I don't know, somebody might take it and interpret it as Dolly's movie and have a story around that. Well, now that this has happened, and this isn't just
JJ (16:09)
Yeah.
Matty (16:09)
Detroit, this is across the entire country. Australia's theme for September is also nine to five. So it'll be
JJ (16:16)
Wow.
Matty (16:17)
very fascinating to see what stories across. Across the country on this event that they scheduled. They probably picked it at the before the calendar year even started, your topics for every month. I don't know. I don't know. It's all like weird. On and on and on and on and on.
JJ (16:31)
I mean we can go on and on and on 'cause just like it's just been a fun.
Melissa (16:34)
The one thing I would say is I feel like the loss of Dolly Parton is like not quite on the same scale as like a Princess Diana. But like for the United States, I feel like she is
Matty (16:48)
I don't I think she is.
Melissa (16:50)
beloved in like there's not one person that would have anything negative to say. I feel like this is our Princess Diana. She is America's beloved, wonderful philanthropist. You know, like her humanitarian efforts. She was just an amazing, amazing woman.
Megan (17:13)
Well, I I think also she was on par in some respects with Princess Diana because her imagination library, which gives
JJ (17:22)
Mm, yeah.
Megan (17:23)
free age-appropriate books delivered to kids from birth to age five, is in five countries: the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Ireland. So that Bookgiving has gone not just in the US, but expanded to many other countries. And the royal family had their during the changing of the guard, they were playing Dolly's song. So
Matty (17:50)
yes. Nine to five.
Megan (17:52)
yes, they so I mean they were I think the loss
Matty (17:56)
Amazing.
Megan (17:57)
isn't just being felt by the United States, but also many other countries, not just from her music. her songs, but also from what she did for children around the world.
Melissa (18:11)
Mm-hmm. Yes.
Matty (18:11)
In LGBTQ community and for women and and and and she was doing so much behind the scenes. I mean just an amazing woman.
Megan (18:13)
Yes. Absolutely.
Melissa (18:22)
And never wanted the spotlight. Yes, she never wanted
Megan (18:22)
Well, she was a feminist.
JJ (18:22)
Hair. Yeah.
Melissa (18:25)
the spotlight. And even in her death, I mean, if if it she had cancer or whatever the circumstances were with her death, it wasn't broadcast, it wasn't this thing in the news all the time following how she's doing. It's just she went peacefully and it wasn't a huge thing. Yes.
Matty (18:43)
On our own terms, yeah.
JJ (18:45)
Yeah. She said I mean the spokesperson from the Parton family said that she wanted to s to rest in a bed of cotton because she's been carrying diamonds and glitter all her life. So she wanted to rest.
Matty (18:59)
Yeah.
Megan (19:02)
Yeah, I love it.
Melissa (19:02)
And now she's at peace with her husband. So that was a huge
JJ (19:05)
Cheers.
Megan (19:05)
Yes.
Melissa (19:06)
thing too. He died like a year ago. Yeah.
Matty (19:06)
That was like a year ago. Yeah. And I I think that probably I mean, you hear a lot of stories around that. But
JJ (19:12)
Mm, yeah. Yeah.
Matty (19:14)
she didn't leave us empty handed. She has left thousands of songs, she said, behind. intentionally.
JJ (19:23)
And a legacy.
Matty (19:24)
So that her library could be discovered. You know how they always like, the lost tapes or the lost music of the Beatles or whatever. Like she
Melissa (19:33)
Yeah.
Matty (19:33)
intentionally did it. It wasn't like sh you guys have to try to find these somewhere. She's like, I've left all of these. But the one cool thing that she did that I learned I didn't know until now is that she took a song. She already she's released the name of the song. It's called My Place in History. And she has recorded it and she has locked it in what she calls a dream box at Dollywood's Dream More Resort. So I'm assuming you can see it and it's visible. This box cannot be opened until January nineteenth, two thousand and forty-six. That would be the date where she turns one hundred. So in twenty years, this will be opened and this song will be spread
JJ (20:19)
Well.
Matty (20:20)
across the world forever
Melissa (20:20)
That is cool.
Megan (20:22)
Yeah.
JJ (20:22)
Fingers crossed we're still alive to listen to it.
Matty (20:25)
my god, right?
Megan (20:26)
Ha ha ha ha.
Melissa (20:27)
For sure. What's the
Matty (20:28)
I hope she didn't put it on like a cassette tape.
Melissa (20:29)
date? I'm gonna put a Calendar.
JJ (20:31)
I'm a chat.
Melissa (20:32)
January nineteenth.
Matty (20:35)
Twenty forty six. Well, I'm not
Megan (20:36)
We'll all be here. Yes. We'll all be here.
Melissa (20:37)
Mm-hmm.
JJ (20:37)
Yeah.
Matty (20:39)
great with calendars, so I might need a reminder.
Megan (20:42)
Well, I think we'll all know. Yeah. Yeah.
Melissa (20:43)
Matt, if anybody needs a reminder about dates and calendars, it's you.
JJ (20:48)
That's him.
Matty (20:48)
yeah. Yeah. Can I do a quick
Melissa (20:50)
Mm.
Matty (20:52)
shout out to Carhartt? Carhartt is also a Michigan company here up on this hat. So I just wanted to make sure I didn't leave them
Melissa (21:00)
I like it.
Matty (21:00)
out of the conversation.
JJ (21:01)
You must be sweating.
Megan (21:03)
I mean I can't.
Matty (21:04)
You know,
Melissa (21:04)
It's like one of those vagina hats. The vagina
Matty (21:05)
my I do
Melissa (21:07)
hats when they did the all the protesting.
JJ (21:08)
yeah, the pussy hat.
Melissa (21:10)
Mm-hmm.
Matty (21:11)
yeah, pussy pussycat hat.
JJ (21:14)
Pussy hat. Pussy hat, yeah.
Matty (21:15)
But you know, JJ, my hat game requires suffer you know, small sacrifices. Okay, you guys.
JJ (21:19)
god, I can't. I can't.
Melissa (21:21)
It looks good, I like.
Matty (21:22)
I thank you. I have a really fun thing that I want to do if you guys will allow me to. I unless does anyone this is very
JJ (21:29)
Okay. Buckle up.
Megan (21:29)
Sure.
Melissa (21:29)
Yeah.
Matty (21:32)
this is Dolly forward, but it's gonna also
JJ (21:35)
Okay.
Matty (21:36)
then I'm gonna share some information about the five of us. So is there anything else you want to say about Dolly or should I just jump right in?
JJ (21:44)
No, I think that we wrap it up the four of us.
Melissa (21:44)
The five of us, Dolly's included in the four of us.
Matty (21:49)
Four of us plus Dolly. She's part of the
Megan (21:51)
Okay.
JJ (21:51)
Yeah.
Matty (21:51)
group. So yeah, yeah.
Melissa (21:51)
Okay. I just I wanted to clean.
Matty (21:54)
Yeah. Okay. So
JJ (21:53)
Yeah. Okay, go for it.
Matty (21:56)
okay. I gotta get my I gotta get my notes. Okay. 'cause this does require sorry.
Melissa (22:02)
Do you need your glasses?
Matty (22:04)
so here's the here's what happened.
JJ (22:04)
Okay, here we go.
Matty (22:07)
Okay, wait, hold on. I think they're out of order.
Melissa (22:08)
You need your glasses, Matt.
JJ (22:09)
But rolling Matty, we are live. Get on it.
Megan (22:11)
Well, I can't. This
JJ (22:13)
I can't. Yeah?
Matty (22:15)
Okay. No, this is part of the charm. Okay, so
JJ (22:19)
Yeah, is it?
Megan (22:20)
I'm not sure it is for the slippers.
Matty (22:23)
Okay, so here's what happens. I'm gonna have to go off script for a little bit. Now I now I have sort of okay.
Megan (22:28)
my god, I can't.
JJ (22:28)
God.
Melissa (22:29)
Yeah.
Matty (22:30)
All right, listen. Do you guys know about like the WMO? Okay, WMO, it's the company or the organization that names the storms. So when we have a tropical storm. Okay. Yeah,
Melissa (22:44)
No.
Megan (22:44)
Yes, yes.
JJ (22:45)
The hurricanes, huh.
Matty (22:48)
okay. So What they do is they use their six names every year that are used for the names,
Megan (22:58)
Yes.
Matty (22:58)
And then so the very next one on the list. So if your name does not rise to the occasion of disastrous storm, your name stays in the mix for the next year. Yeah.
Melissa (23:10)
I have a question. is don't they go in order alphabetically as well? Okay. Thank you.
Matty (23:15)
Yes, yes, yes. But
Megan (23:16)
Yes.
JJ (23:16)
Yeah. Just let
Matty (23:19)
if you're
JJ (23:19)
let finish.
Matty (23:21)
okay, so let me say the
Megan (23:21)
Well, it's dragging on.
Melissa (23:21)
sorry.
Matty (23:25)
the very next name on the list waiting for the storm to rise to the level that it gets a name is Doll.
Melissa (23:35)
Right, cray.
JJ (23:35)
Mm.
Matty (23:35)
Hundred hundred percent. And Dolly
JJ (23:38)
Wow.
Matty (23:39)
has been on the list since the year Dolly Parton was born. Dolly debuted on the list the year she was born.
Melissa (23:50)
never been used for hurricane.
Matty (23:52)
no, it's come up several
JJ (23:53)
Or storm.
Matty (23:54)
times, like six times it's come up in rotation, but her storm itself has never risen to the level Of disaster. Because if it's disaster, then you don't want to, it's like you know, if a murder happens in a house, you want to tear down the house. So you don't want to like reuse it. Hers is still back up in rotation again. And it's crazy that the next storm to be named is going to be named Dolly
Melissa (24:23)
That is crazy.
Matty (24:25)
Okay, well, where do you guys think your where do you guys think your names are? I was blown.
JJ (24:33)
mine is on the bottom.
Matty (24:36)
I was blown away. I did some research about where we are. I'll start with mine. My
Megan (24:42)
Okay.
Matty (24:42)
name has been retired. Hurricane
Melissa (24:45)
Mm.
Megan (24:45)
Okay.
Matty (24:46)
Hurricane Matthew happened in 2016.
Megan (24:50)
I was gonna say why
JJ (24:51)
Okay.
Megan (24:51)
I remember that.
Matty (24:52)
Yeah, I do too. And then
JJ (24:52)
Okay. What about Hurricane Megan?
Matty (24:55)
so it's happening constantly, week to week. All right. And then my name was replaced in 2022 with Martin. So Matthew comes off the list, Martin comes in. And Martin will come back until Martin is crazy. Megan,
JJ (25:07)
Okay. Happens.
Matty (25:11)
Megan, spelled as you spell your name, has been retired.
Megan (25:14)
Yep.
Matty (25:17)
Severe tropical cyclone Megan happened in Australia in March
JJ (25:22)
She is coming every day.
Matty (25:24)
and March 2024. So
Megan (25:26)
Okay.
Matty (25:27)
you've been replaced by Marin. Melissa.
Megan (25:29)
Good. Happy to be good. Off the list.
Melissa (25:29)
Right.
JJ (25:30)
Okay. Melissa
Matty (25:33)
It's been a long run, but you just retired in October of 2025. So you had Hurricane Melissa happened in 2025,
Melissa (25:43)
Mm-hmm.
Matty (25:45)
category five. became the strongest hurricane on record and made landfall, you were a havoc. You killed ninety people across Jamaica,
JJ (25:54)
Hello.
Matty (25:54)
Haiti, and other island nations.
Melissa (25:57)
Yeah, twenty twenty five wasn't a good year for me, so that tracks. Actually.
Matty (26:01)
Well, you've passed your crown to Molly. Molly's now your replacement. J
JJ (26:04)
Okay. we know Amali.
Melissa (26:05)
Good. Good, good.
Matty (26:09)
Julio is active.
JJ (26:11)
I'm not cut I'm still in. Is that Rita?
Melissa (26:13)
Active ooh.
JJ (26:15)
Mm-hmm.
Matty (26:16)
Yours, JJ, your storm got named yesterday. Yesterday!
Melissa (26:22)
Okay.
Matty (26:24)
Tropical storm Julio in the eastern Pacific got named August 25th, 2026. The National Hurricane Center announced early Tuesday
JJ (26:33)
Wow.
Matty (26:35)
that Julio had formed. It had maximum sustained winds of 50 miles per hour. so the rest of us have all been retired. You're on the cuss.
JJ (26:46)
I'm still s I am at the cast.
Megan (26:49)
Well we don't know that if they'll retire pr him or not, right? Cause they just the storm isn't been that bad so far.
Melissa (26:53)
Well, if they use his name.
Matty (26:53)
I yeah. I haven't heard
JJ (26:53)
No, once it's named, yeah.
Matty (26:57)
news about Hurricane Julio becoming
JJ (26:59)
Cool yeah.
Matty (26:59)
an issue. Julio.
Megan (27:00)
Yeah.
Matty (27:02)
Hurricane Julio. so it sounds like you might be you're a little bit of a wild card, but it sounds like you'll be not back next year. But Megan, Matty, and Melissa, we've been retired. And and Dolly will be back. Dolly's happening
JJ (27:13)
Retired. All right.
Megan (27:14)
Yep. Okay.
Melissa (27:14)
Okay, that's okay.
Matty (27:18)
too. Dolly's next after you, JJ. Julio Dolly.
JJ (27:22)
Wow. Love that. Love
Matty (27:23)
I don't know about that.
JJ (27:24)
that so much.
Megan (27:25)
Well, I thought it doesn't it go to a K?
Matty (27:26)
I know. As soon as I said that out loud, I'm like, that seems weird. But but but they
Megan (27:29)
Okay, all right, well,
Melissa (27:32)
Valley would be
Megan (27:32)
so Dolly's done for
Melissa (27:33)
from Sun Human.
JJ (27:33)
Thank you, Megan.
Megan (27:34)
this year. She already had her chance and it didn't happen.
Matty (27:38)
Well, right, but I think that tracks for Dolly's personality. She just she doesn't wanna that's why her storms are just like, I'm I'm I'm here, but I'm not here to cause drama.
Melissa (27:45)
That's why she'll just stay on the list for a long time and never cause havoc.
JJ (27:49)
All right, all right, we got it.
Matty (27:52)
Right. Well, d wasn't that fascinating?
JJ (27:53)
We got it. Thank
Megan (27:55)
Yeah.
JJ (27:56)
thank you for the facts.
Melissa (27:57)
Barry.
Megan (27:57)
I mean, I didn't I've kind of are I mean, I don't
Matty (27:59)
You didn't like it?
Megan (28:00)
know that besides looking up our names, like I already knew all the stuff about the storm naming
Matty (28:05)
I call BS. You didn't know Matty Mitsu.
Megan (28:06)
I didn't know where my name was or but I knew about the retiring and all of that business and the letters and the alphabet. Yeah.
Matty (28:15)
Mm well the alphabet.
JJ (28:15)
Give her the benefit of the doubt.
Matty (28:17)
it's fine. It's fine. I think the listeners will appreciate.
JJ (28:20)
Let's just move along. I think that the story from Dolly would conf
Megan (28:22)
Yeah, there's a lot more
Melissa (28:24)
J Jane you're right.
Megan (28:25)
important things to talk about. The whole
JJ (28:28)
Yes.
Melissa (28:28)
Lining.
Megan (28:28)
reason we have Melissa here is that she
JJ (28:31)
Yeah.
Megan (28:32)
was instrumental in probably breaking up a huge drug ring up on the Au Sable River.
JJ (28:44)
breaking news.
Melissa (28:44)
Well says Megan not not reality
Megan (28:47)
Well, it's still to be determined, yes.
Melissa (28:51)
Well we'll never actually know will we?
Megan (28:53)
Well, once I get my cameras.
Melissa (28:56)
Yes. So
Matty (28:56)
Hmm. But the vent has happened. I don't think they're coming back based on what I heard Melissa prowling around the outdoors hiding behind trees. But I could be wrong. Spo spoiler alert.
Melissa (29:05)
Yes. Okay. Yeah, I don't think they will come back. So, here's the story. Megan allowed and gave us access and let us stay at the Shangri-La, which was amazing. I went with my girls and my daughter's boyfriend. So we had a family trip last weekend. Wonderful. It was just the greatest weekend. The very night before we were ready to leave, we thought one last bonfire, s'mores, all of the things.
JJ (29:42)
Not that.
Melissa (29:43)
So
Matty (29:43)
Hate smorse.
Megan (29:43)
Yes.
Melissa (29:45)
Megan's cabin is very, very remote. It is, I think, like three and a half miles off of the main road, and it's almost like a two-track to get there. Yes, for sure. Yes.
Matty (29:58)
And like fifteen to twenty minutes to get there off the main road.
Megan (30:02)
Like twenty minutes off the main road, yes.
Melissa (30:04)
So very desolate, private, like this wonderful, wonderful
JJ (30:07)
No lights, no stop signs, nothing.
Melissa (30:09)
private area. So the few days we had been there, we had been, you know, walking, hiking, and there are other cabins that are out there, neighbors that Megan's known all these years, but no one was out there. And we were all commenting of like, you know, it's just
Matty (30:26)
You mean the ones that stole her chair? Those neighbors? Sorry.
Melissa (30:29)
Yes,
Megan (30:29)
They're across the river. Yes.
Melissa (30:30)
possibly. There across the river. So we didn't see
JJ (30:30)
The ones before.
Melissa (30:33)
them. But we were commenting on how it was like the end of August, but there was literally no one was around of any of the cabins anywhere nearby. Okay, so it's the last night, we're getting the bonfire going, it's dusk, and I see headlights driving up the road from the dead end. And I thought that was kind of odd because we had just been walking and there's literally been
Megan (31:00)
Mm.
Melissa (31:01)
no one around all weekend. And I didn't see them come down the road. So okay, whatever. A minute later, we see headlights come into their area towards the river. I'm like, this is weird. Odd.
Megan (31:16)
Yeah, very.
Melissa (31:17)
But then they backed out. Immediately they came in and then backed out. I'm like, okay, they're lost, but they're gonna get out of here. Few minutes later, I see red taillights. It is getting darker and darker. I see red taillights just sitting out in the woods in front of Megan's cabin. I'm like, okay, they're still here. This is concerning. Like, what should we
Matty (31:42)
You in danger girl.
Melissa (31:43)
do? Yes.
Megan (31:44)
Yes.
Melissa (31:45)
So my daughters are like, my god, let's get in the house and lock the doors. I'm like, it's probably just somebody they're lost, or maybe it's one of the neighbors. I'm dismissing it. We're sitting there
JJ (31:55)
Put that stick on the slider.
Melissa (31:58)
I I know. So
Megan (31:58)
Yeah, exactly. I probably would
Matty (31:58)
A exactly.
Megan (32:01)
have called the police at that point.
Melissa (32:03)
Well, I'm texting you guys as this starts. I'm like something's immense.
Matty (32:06)
It seems very much like murder in the woods.
Melissa (32:10)
Yes.
Megan (32:11)
Yes.
Melissa (32:12)
Finally, they this it turns around. It's a monster truck. A monster truck pulls in and
Matty (32:18)
I mean nine one one immediately.
Megan (32:21)
Yeah.
Melissa (32:22)
they come down very slow, but then they turn opposite of where we're sitting at the bonfire and start like driving through the yard.
JJ (32:32)
No, no, no, no. I'm out.
Melissa (32:33)
Towards the river and then they just stop. So I'm like, okay, this is not acceptable. They shouldn't be back here. I'm going over there. So I start walking over. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
Matty (32:44)
Can I interrupt? I mean, I'm I'm sorry, but I didn't know until this moment that your daughter's boyfriend was with you. So I thought the whole time it was three ladies
Melissa (32:58)
Yep.
Matty (32:58)
in the cabin. So c now I mean
Megan (33:01)
Well no, he wasn't there at the time. He was fishing. He's gone. He wasn't around.
Melissa (33:02)
Well here's what's happening. So
Matty (33:05)
he was fishing? I was gonna say, like, why is he not next to you walking? 'Cause I okay.
Melissa (33:09)
No, he wasn't there. So he is a quarter of a mile in the opposite direction fishing. I start walking, and my daughter says,
Matty (33:18)
you should not be doing this.
Melissa (33:20)
Mom, this is how white people die. Don't do it. Mom, come back. So she's
Matty (33:26)
She's so smart.
Megan (33:24)
Which is true. It is true. Yes.
Melissa (33:29)
telling me to come back. My other daughter is on the dot with a flashlight trying to Morris
Matty (33:30)
That's hilarious. She's too much.
Melissa (33:35)
code. Her boyfriend a quarter of a mile up the river with Morse code flashlight, like get back here because he wasn't there.
Matty (33:42)
I'm like Morse code.
JJ (33:43)
Morse code and everything.
Melissa (33:44)
Anyway, I go up, I approach the gentleman in the truck. He immediately
JJ (33:50)
you do.
Melissa (33:51)
jumps down from the truck wearing denim jeans, wide leg that pass just below the kneecap. He is
Megan (34:03)
Yeah.
Melissa (34:05)
fired
JJ (34:04)
They're in now.
Melissa (34:05)
up. He's fired up. And he said.
Matty (34:07)
They're in now, JJ said they're in now.
Melissa (34:11)
He said, I'm supposed to be making a delivery out here.
Matty (34:12)
So I
Melissa (34:15)
I'm supposed to be making a delivery out here. This is the pin they gave me. And he's holding his phone up, showing like this GPS pin. And I said, Well, who are you looking for? He said,
JJ (34:26)
And what kind of delivery?
Melissa (34:28)
A delivery. He said, We've got a
Megan (34:28)
Exactly. Well.
Matty (34:28)
Yeah.
Melissa (34:30)
delivery for the White Pine Campground, which I
JJ (34:34)
Mm-hmm.
Melissa (34:34)
know to be on the other side of the river and down
Megan (34:38)
Yes.
Melissa (34:38)
a little ways. And I said, okay, well, you're in the wrong place. They're across the river. And then I don't realize at the time, there's a girl sitting in the passenger seat of the truck. All of a sudden, she pipes up. We've been looking a half an hour. We've been driving around. This is bullshit. They didn't tell us where we're going. We didn't have
Matty (35:02)
No
Melissa (35:03)
to take this, we didn't have to take this delivery.
JJ (35:05)
my god!
Melissa (35:07)
We're doing this out of the kindness of our
Megan (35:07)
Hm.
Melissa (35:08)
heart and we've been fucking around, driving around here for half an hour. I'm like,
Matty (35:12)
wow.
Melissa (35:14)
I look at her, she has no teeth, no teeth.
JJ (35:13)
Wow. You j you should have said you should have said
Megan (35:14)
Yes.
JJ (35:17)
pigs gotta eat, pigs gotta eat.
Megan (35:19)
Yeah, it is pigs gotta eat.
Matty (35:20)
Pig's got it it
Melissa (35:21)
It's
Matty (35:21)
is.
Melissa (35:21)
kids gotta eat. This girl was fired up.
Matty (35:24)
Can were you at this point nervous about your safety at all? I would be,
Melissa (35:30)
No.
Matty (35:30)
no, you weren't. You're
Megan (35:32)
This would
Melissa (35:33)
Mm-hmm.
Megan (35:33)
that-makes me feel more comfortable too, because I'd be like, Okay,
Melissa (35:35)
Yeah.
Megan (35:36)
they're drug dealers, not murderers.
Melissa (35:38)
I didn't think they were drug dealers. I thought they like door dashing like Burger
Megan (35:41)
Ha.
Melissa (35:41)
King or something. I'm like What is going on? So then
JJ (35:43)
Door dash.
Matty (35:43)
Megan still like dark time like
Melissa (35:47)
I'm like a delivery? Well then I like walk up closer to the river.
Matty (35:51)
All right, Melissa, this is a one hour podcast, just so you
JJ (35:53)
Yeah, yeah.
Matty (35:54)
know. So
Melissa (35:54)
Sorry. Across the river there's a guy
JJ (35:56)
We need to wrap it up.
Melissa (35:57)
standing way down the river and I yell across the river, Did you place an order? And I hear him under his breath over the river going, What? And then he goes, Yeah, we did. I said, Okay, well they're here. He said, Okay, give me a minute. And I'm like, Give me a minute.
Matty (36:16)
Are you trying to save what the order was for a bombshell moment? Like say it.
Melissa (36:20)
Right. The order was
Megan (36:22)
Well,
JJ (36:22)
Yeah,
Megan (36:22)
it's
JJ (36:22)
I know. Like
Melissa (36:23)
firewood. And it was not a whole truck of firewood. It was
Matty (36:27)
I mean such a buildup.
Melissa (36:29)
like six pieces of firewood. It was the smallest little campfire. So
Megan (36:31)
No, it's it's for just a campfire. Yeah. It's a bundle.
JJ (36:33)
yeah. what
Megan (36:37)
It's a little wood bundle that you buy for a one
Melissa (36:39)
Yes.
Megan (36:39)
off campfire.
Melissa (36:40)
So these guys had been driving for half an hour, forty five minutes, looking around to deliver a bundle of firewood.
Matty (36:47)
That's craziness. You would think if that was their business and they lived around there, they would know where this campground is.
Megan (36:52)
Well, exactly,
Melissa (36:52)
That's what I'm thinking. If they lived around there, why didn't
Megan (36:54)
Matty, exactly.
Melissa (36:56)
they know where the campground was?
Megan (36:58)
Because maybe the wood delivery was cover for delivery of something else.
Matty (37:04)
I think
Melissa (37:04)
I don't know.
Matty (37:04)
betwe between those wood, that little pile of wood, there might have been some tinfoil. Just say. Just say. I agree, Megan.
Megan (37:12)
So I agree. Is something's going on.
Melissa (37:13)
Maybe. So then I said, 'cause I just wanted them
JJ (37:16)
the story continues.
Melissa (37:17)
I wanted them to leave.
Megan (37:18)
Yeah, it's not done.
Melissa (37:19)
I said, Can you just leave the firewood on the dock and they can get it? goes, Well, we need to get paid. And I go, Okay. Well
Matty (37:29)
See, this is this
Megan (37:30)
Which again
Matty (37:30)
is
Megan (37:30)
in today's world, why aren't you using Venmo,
JJ (37:33)
Yeah.
Megan (37:33)
Zelle, PayPal? Like it's odd to me.
Matty (37:34)
Right. Because they don't wanna because they don't wanna digital trail me again.
Megan (37:39)
Correct.
JJ (37:40)
Transaction.
Megan (37:40)
But this
Melissa (37:41)
Correct.
Megan (37:41)
is why it's a drug deal.
Matty (37:43)
And Megan Miss Melissa's
Melissa (37:44)
So I'm
Matty (37:45)
right helping them facilitate. She's like, let's move,
Megan (37:46)
I know. I know.
Melissa (37:47)
So I just said
JJ (37:48)
Yeah.
Matty (37:49)
let's move your product to the to Megan's
JJ (37:52)
Yeah.
Matty (37:53)
dock.
Melissa (37:53)
truck and then gone. So I'm like, okay, well then that's between you and whatever this payment. So I walk back over to the campfire and then we see a guy from the camp
JJ (38:05)
You're part of the whole transaction.
Melissa (38:08)
walking across the river, which goes
Matty (38:08)
Yeah. Sh implicated.
Melissa (38:10)
up to like your
JJ (38:11)
Huh.
Melissa (38:12)
neck almost. He's got his arms up
Megan (38:12)
Yeah, probably.
Melissa (38:14)
holding money, walking across the freezing cold river to pay this guy. He
Matty (38:18)
Nobody wants wood that bad. Nobody's doing wood that bad,
JJ (38:22)
No.
Matty (38:22)
girl.
Megan (38:22)
Well, it was a cold night and they're camping, so they do want that wood because they're
JJ (38:26)
Yeah.
Megan (38:26)
freezing probably.
Melissa (38:28)
Yeah, so
JJ (38:28)
Yeah.
Matty (38:28)
Or she has no teeth which speaks math language to me. No offense. No offense. I'm
Megan (38:33)
Well, I agree.
Melissa (38:33)
It does. It they were I don't know if they were on the up and up. So they paid they left. I was so relieved to see this truck go. At this point it's
Matty (38:42)
Did you get the tr did you get payment on video? Did you get that on video? Other it's the only
JJ (38:47)
A transaction.
Matty (38:48)
thing that'll exonerate you, in my opinion. Cause otherwise, girl, you're you might be doing time
Melissa (38:53)
Well
Matty (38:54)
if this comes down.
Melissa (38:56)
They leave and now I'm like, okay, so now these campers are gonna come over to get this firewood. In the meantime, Megan is texting me. I think we should call the police. I think this is a drug deal. I'm like, no, I think they're gonna come back for the wood, but I'm gonna video them coming back. I'm sneaking through the woods, whatever. So I go, I'm sneaking correct for a long time.
Matty (39:16)
Yeah, that's
Megan (39:17)
Well, the wood stayed on the dock. The pile of wood stayed there for a very long time. And I'm like, I'm calling the police if this wood is not picked up because then a hundred percent it was cover for a drug deal.
Melissa (39:28)
So I'm like
Matty (39:29)
Just for the record, JJ and I were on this thread. So we're we're seeing it.
Melissa (39:32)
Yeah, you're you're listening and watching it all. So I'm like, okay, just hold on. I think they might be coming. I can hear a canoe, like I can hear commotion. So I'm sneaking through the woods to hide and record them. All of a sudden, my phone is ringing as loud as possible. And
Megan (39:49)
Yeah.
Melissa (39:50)
it's Megan calling me. I answer, I'm like, Megan, I'm sneaking through the woods. I'll call you later. I
JJ (39:57)
Yeah.
Melissa (39:58)
hang up.
Matty (39:58)
Who has their phone turned on these days?
Megan (40:02)
if you're really investigating a crime, you shouldn't be having your phone on ringer full blast.
JJ (40:06)
Yeah. I mean
Matty (40:06)
Correct.
Melissa (40:08)
So
JJ (40:09)
luckily enough she has signals, so that's a good spot for next season.
Megan (40:13)
Well,
Melissa (40:13)
It was thanks to this Wi Fi. Yeah.
Megan (40:14)
we've got Wi-Fi up there now. Thank God.
Matty (40:16)
Well, and it's a wonder you didn't get ticks
Megan (40:18)
Just installed last week.
Matty (40:20)
Run around there in the woods getting these ticks like last time. It's a wonder.
Melissa (40:20)
So to end this. Yeah. So to end this very long story, I snuck
JJ (40:28)
Yeah.
Melissa (40:29)
through the woods, I hid behind a tree, I recorded the canoers coming across the river in the pitch black to get one bundle of wood. It's not like it was a ton of wood, it was just like five or six pieces. I
JJ (40:41)
What you could do for a for a piece of wood.
Megan (40:43)
Well, I'm sure they were freezing. They wanted to get a campfire.
Matty (40:45)
There you go, JJ, get it in there.
Melissa (40:47)
They were in the middle of the woods. I feel like they could have found stuff to burn.
Matty (40:48)
Well, let's I feel there was drugs involved, a hundred percent. I mean the wood was
Megan (40:53)
Okay, well good.
Matty (40:55)
just the cover. It was just
JJ (40:56)
Yeah.
Matty (40:57)
it was just the disguise. It was
Megan (40:59)
That's what I think. And I'm I told my brother, I'm like, we need to get those cameras installed ASAP to stop these future drug transactions from happening. But then my brother says to me, Well, did she get the name of the company drop in the wood? Because we might want to use them in the future. And I'm like, are you kidding me? Out of this
Matty (41:18)
What are you can I
Megan (41:23)
whole story, you want their numbered? Absolutely not. We are not using them. Yeah.
JJ (41:23)
I mean they have your pen. They have your pen. They
Melissa (41:26)
You don't want them ever back there again.
Matty (41:25)
I love it. I've got
JJ (41:29)
have your location.
Megan (41:29)
We're not using them.
Matty (41:31)
I've got that was my favorite moment as a side like as a standby just observer of what was going down. When when Megan said, my god, my brother wants to like get wood from these people and Missy's like
JJ (41:47)
Ha ha ha.
Matty (41:47)
Melissa's like, sure. If he wants to use that delivery service going forward, just tell him to look for the super sized monster truck with a driver and oversized jean shorts that land mid calf. And women passenger with a few teeth and a hot temper. I'm like, I can't a few teeth and a hot temper. That needs
Megan (42:04)
I love it. I can't.
JJ (42:04)
Ha ha ha ha.
Matty (42:08)
to be like a T shirt.
JJ (42:08)
For you
Megan (42:10)
Yeah, it is.
JJ (42:11)
my god, that's a crazy story.
Matty (42:12)
I bet
Melissa (42:12)
She inspired him.
Matty (42:14)
I bet in one
Melissa (42:14)
It was
Matty (42:15)
of those pieces of wood they drilled a little hole and tucked the
Melissa (42:19)
For the drugs.
Matty (42:21)
I mean who's g I I will say that
Megan (42:20)
Something. Well, we're getting cameras installed. So we'll see these shenanigans
JJ (42:21)
Yeah.
Melissa (42:24)
It was and
JJ (42:24)
That's good.
Megan (42:26)
in the future.
Melissa (42:26)
this all does setting and it was a lot of shenanigans and it was funny, but the reality is you are three and a half miles removed from the road in a
Matty (42:34)
Correct. That's what I was just gonna say.
JJ (42:34)
Yeah, yeah.
Melissa (42:36)
very desolate area. So to have a monster truck come and have all the suspicious activity, it was a little off putting.
Matty (42:45)
Well, Melissa, can I also
Megan (42:45)
It's we a hundred percent.
Matty (42:47)
can I also say yes to that? But also if you are really seriously in the business of delivering six pieces of wood to somebody and you are
Megan (42:58)
Mm.
Matty (42:59)
thirty minutes off the road and you are lost, why would you keep going and going and going just to make this
JJ (43:04)
Yeah. Well, Matty
Megan (43:06)
No, I can't.
Matty (43:07)
six piece wood delivery? No.
Megan (43:09)
Correct, something seems suspicious.
JJ (43:10)
Well, Matty
Melissa (43:11)
It it what was so funny it was almost
JJ (43:12)
Matty, you and I
Melissa (43:14)
like the Michael Scott from the office when he had the GPS and he drove right into the lake because the GPS told him to drive there. He kept coming and then drove through the yard as far as he could go
Megan (43:26)
Yes.
Melissa (43:27)
to the river, even though there's no sign of a camp. He just kept going.
Matty (43:30)
Correct.
JJ (43:30)
Well into that point into that point last year, the year before, Matty and I kept going through the through the woods and we were almost almost murder when we were in the middle of the of a road that ended up it to be a gate with somebody. So but we kept
Matty (43:44)
we were very close to murder.
JJ (43:47)
going. We kept going and going and going and the grass was up the car like nobody's business.
Matty (43:51)
The grass
Melissa (43:52)
my god, that's scary.
Matty (43:52)
was that one.
Megan (43:53)
Remember they went on the old that when we took
Melissa (43:56)
Yeah.
Megan (43:56)
the route back from
Melissa (43:59)
Bay.
Megan (43:59)
canoeing this year and I'm like,
JJ (44:01)
Yeah.
Megan (44:01)
this is that wrong GPS that it gives you.
JJ (44:04)
Okay.
Matty (44:04)
All I'm gonna
Melissa (44:05)
Yeah, it was so funny.
Matty (44:05)
say is all that craziness and yet you crazy white lady went out there just to get right in the mix of it.
JJ (44:12)
Yeah.
Melissa (44:13)
I needed to protect the
JJ (44:13)
That it but
Melissa (44:16)
area. I was there and I felt like it was my obligation to make sure everything was on the other side.
Matty (44:21)
I think you are just trying to get episode five of the pod. You're trying to get your pod jacket, Megan. She's trying to get her pod jacket with getting new content.
Megan (44:22)
Appreciate it. Yeah, I appreciate it.
JJ (44:24)
Yeah. But yeah. Yeah.
Megan (44:29)
Yes, I get it.
JJ (44:31)
And it but to but but to quote
Melissa (44:32)
We talked about me being a West Michigan correspondent. Maybe I'm an Au Sable River correspondent.
Matty (44:37)
Better suited.
Megan (44:38)
Well, maybe, maybe. My brother said he's very proud of you for getting in the mix. He appreciates it.
JJ (44:38)
Yeah. But to but yeah. But to quote but to quote one of your
Matty (44:39)
Yeah.
Melissa (44:42)
Thank you. Thank you.
JJ (44:45)
daughters, this is why white people die. She is. Now it's time
Megan (44:48)
Well, she's alive she's alive to tell the tale, and I'm here for it.
Melissa (44:48)
You're right. I am. Yep. That's right.
Matty (44:52)
This time.
Megan (44:54)
Yes.
JJ (44:55)
for slip it ins and pull outs because we're running out of time. So let's just dive in into slip
Melissa (44:58)
Okay. Okay.
Matty (44:58)
Okay.
JJ (44:59)
it ins and pull outs. and my
Melissa (45:01)
Okay.
JJ (45:02)
first one I am
Matty (45:02)
Yes, sir.
JJ (45:03)
going to start with I'm gonna bring it back to Dolly Parton. One of a song that connects me with her and my mom is the song, the song that she's got Love is Like a Butterfly. And I'm gonna quote very little from her. It says, Love is like a butterfly, as soft, as gentle as a sight. The multicolor moods of love are like it's satin wings. Love makes your heart feel strange inside. It flutters like soft wings in flight. Love is like a butterfly, a rare and gentle thing. And I listened to that song when I heard about the news about Duty, and it reminded me of my my little butterfly, my mom. So I wanted to just like bring that at my as my slip it in. On the other end, I pull it out are artists that want to say their names.
Matty (45:54)
That was nice, J J. Very nice.
Melissa (45:55)
What
JJ (45:55)
Thank you. On the other end, my pull it out are also a song every time an artist
Matty (46:02)
Mm-hmm.
JJ (46:03)
try to get in their names in the middle of a song. Like I'm a r
Megan (46:06)
Wow, I like it.
JJ (46:08)
I'm a r like Jason Derulo, they do it all the
Melissa (46:08)
are we talking about?
Matty (46:08)
Jason Derulo? I can't with Jason Derulo.
JJ (46:12)
time in like in in Latin America, Latin music, they do it all the time. I'm like, I already know, even Bad Bunny, like I already know I'm playing your song. I don't need to know again that this is a song from Becky G. Karol G, J.Lo. Like it's just like they just
Melissa (46:28)
Okay.
Matty (46:29)
Who's Karol G?
JJ (46:31)
You know, you know, Carol JS.
Matty (46:33)
Sorry, that's a long-running joke of ours. I don't
JJ (46:36)
Yeah.
Matty (46:36)
know if that's Karol G. I agree, JJ. Jason Derulo likes to say it literally in his first sentence. That's it, like that's part of his branding. And I, when the song will come on a radio and I'm like, my God, this is one of my my goal is to turn it before he says, Jason Derulo.
JJ (46:55)
Yeah.
Melissa (46:56)
I will go next. My slip it in was the most recent episode of the Slip It In podcast, which was the moth serendipity episode. I found it to be hilarious. I laughed a ton and wish I would have been with you when you were recording because it was really funny. So that's my slip it in.
Matty (47:20)
I love that. Thank you.
Megan (47:20)
Love it. Thank you.
JJ (47:21)
Love that.
Melissa (47:24)
But with praise comes my pull It out.
Matty (47:26)
Hmm. Well
JJ (47:26)
Here we go.
Matty (47:28)
here we go.
Melissa (47:30)
My pull it out from that specific episode was the little kitty kitten
JJ (47:38)
Baby kitten
Melissa (47:39)
paddle game.
Megan (47:39)
Yes.
Melissa (47:42)
Because I
JJ (47:41)
I love it. There's a baby kitten
Matty (47:41)
Mm-hmm.
Melissa (47:43)
feel like some of the things that you were referencing didn't really compare to being like a catfish. It was it was just a little like I didn't really understand the kitten, kitty, catfish. catfish correspondence to like if your mom is gossiping, is that catfish or kitten?
Megan (48:05)
That's baby kitten. It's baby kit.
JJ (48:06)
That's a baby kitten.
Melissa (48:07)
Or baby queen. Yeah, but it's not I feel like catfishing,
Matty (48:07)
Yeah, exactly. Clear clearly.
Melissa (48:12)
all of that's about like
Matty (48:12)
Okay.
Melissa (48:13)
somebody trying to like capture you on dating.
Matty (48:15)
Can I ask you a question?
Megan (48:16)
No, you clearly didn't listen to the episode.
Matty (48:18)
Can I correct? Can
JJ (48:19)
Yeah, exactly.
Matty (48:20)
I ask you a question? Missy. Missy. Mid
Melissa (48:22)
Obviously. Yes. Yes.
Megan (48:24)
Yeah.
Matty (48:25)
mid calf jean short shorts and women with no teeth coming to put firewood on the dock. Kitten or baby kitten? Or cat?
Melissa (48:36)
No, that but those it doesn't relate because it's about catfishing
JJ (48:38)
It's kitten for me. Yes.
Matty (48:40)
It's cat for me.
Melissa (48:42)
someone you're dating. So that's something totally
Megan (48:44)
No, it's not.
Melissa (48:45)
different.
Megan (48:46)
You miss the whole conversation
JJ (48:46)
No, it's not.
Matty (48:48)
sh thank you, Megan.
Megan (48:50)
and point.
Melissa (48:51)
Then I
JJ (48:51)
Yeah.
Melissa (48:52)
then that was probably an episode prior that maybe I missed.
Matty (48:52)
If if someone is coming
JJ (48:54)
Yeah.
Matty (48:55)
out to your property saying that they're selling firewood, but there's crack cocaine in the wood, you're being you're being fished, girl. You're
Megan (49:06)
Kittenfish Kitten.
JJ (49:06)
Yeah.
Matty (49:09)
like pick your level, but girl, it's happening.
JJ (49:13)
Yeah.
Megan (49:13)
Yes.
JJ (49:14)
One hundred percent.
Megan (49:15)
my god. I can't. I can't believe you missed the whole concept completely. Like
Matty (49:19)
I know. And all
Melissa (49:16)
Yeah. Feel like you
Matty (49:21)
that s all that shit
Melissa (49:21)
should have okay.
Matty (49:23)
after she praises the episode and then she tears it apart. That wa that was a that was a kittenfish. You let us down it.
JJ (49:25)
Yeah, I know.
Megan (49:27)
She missed the whole thing.
Melissa (49:27)
love the episode until that one that one segment.
JJ (49:31)
Yeah.
Megan (49:31)
Yes.
Melissa (49:32)
I didn't understand. Okay. That's it.
Matty (49:34)
Okay. Wow.
Megan (49:35)
Okay. Wow.
JJ (49:36)
Love it. Wow.
Matty (49:37)
I know. Megan, you or me? Who would you like? Okay. Okay. I know. You need a I know. I know.
Megan (49:39)
You go, I'll close it out. I can't talk after that.
JJ (49:44)
Ha ha ha.
Matty (49:46)
I know. I've gotta also recenter. Okay, so my my
Megan (49:50)
Yeah.
JJ (49:50)
Yeah.
Matty (49:53)
my slip it in is yesterday. I'm gonna bring it back to Dolly as well. So I recently purchased two bean chairs that I absolutely have fallen in love with from a comfort standpoint. Are they the aesthetically
JJ (50:08)
god.
Matty (50:08)
most pleasing? Maybe not. But anyway, I say that because you can tell by JJ and Megan's reactions, they're gonna come for me on the beanbag chair. But I love it.
JJ (50:18)
We cannot wait until you see them.
Matty (50:20)
However, that's not even my slip it in. I was on them and
JJ (50:23)
However comma.
Matty (50:24)
however comma, I that was not my slip it in. I was sitting there enjoying the outdoors and twice Two cars drove by, both of them windows down, Dolly Parton music jamming. So one drove by and it they were it was a Jeep without like the top was down and they were rocking to Jolene. And then I'm like, that's so cool. And like 20 minutes later, another one came down and it was here you come again, which I'm like, that's so crazy. Like she's coming down again the street. And on the second one, I even texted. JJU and me again, because I'm like, this is so crazy. So it was just loved it so much. Am I pull it out? I don't have one. I asked myself, what what would Dolly do? She wouldn't say anything about a pull it out. She's gonna slip it in twice. So I'm gonna stay.
JJ (51:15)
Mm. double slips.
Matty (51:19)
My double slip is the beanbag chair and the Dolly rocking down the street. I got no,
Megan (51:24)
God.
Matty (51:25)
I got no pulls tonight, ladies and gents. No pulls.
Megan (51:28)
Hey, well,
Matty (51:30)
Ha ha ha!
Megan (51:30)
let me close this out on a maybe slightly better note,
JJ (51:34)
Ha ha.
Megan (51:34)
but still with a little dolly love.
Matty (51:37)
I don't know why Wow Caught me at the knees.
Megan (51:41)
Well, I can't with the beanbags, I can't.
Matty (51:46)
Yeah.
Megan (51:47)
anyway, so when Dolly's
Matty (51:49)
Yeah.
Megan (51:50)
kids who are getting their last book before they go into kindergarten from the Imagination Library, she calls them graduates and sends a letter that she's that's printed out to all of the kids. And she ends that letter with Dream big, learn everything you can, and care for the people who care for you. So that was her sentiment that they used to say within her family. And I think it's wonderful
Matty (52:17)
Mm.
Megan (52:18)
sentiment for everyone to be reminded of. And my pull it out is also sort of a slip it in. but it's I have the same sentiment, which is a negative sentiment. And I heard it today from Garcelle Beauvais, who is an actress and a former Real Housewife of Beverly Hills. She was on Jeff Lewis Live and talking about Dolly Parton. And she said, I heard it best from one of her black friends who said, all the good white people are dying. So.
Matty (52:54)
well, we'll leave it there. yes. Yes. Well, I'm
Megan (52:55)
Yes, exactly. So until next time.
Melissa (52:58)
Matthew paper up.
Matty (53:00)
like processing not this one that goes out in the woods, but yep. Shh.
Megan (53:06)
Well, yes.
JJ (53:04)
On the Osava River.
Megan (53:08)
So I was thought that was a funny sentiment. I'm like, my God, I love it. But yeah, it's pull it out. The good ones are going. So until next time,
Matty (53:14)
It Yeah, that's true. Yeah.
JJ (53:16)
Yeah, unfortunately.
Melissa (53:16)
Mm-hmm.
Megan (53:19)
