JJ: Here we are, season two, episode sixty-eight.

Megan: Where we discuss our in-person experience at the amazing new entertainment venue, Cosm Detroit.

JJ: And we talk about some trends that you tots want to get into it.

Matty: We break down workwear wardrobe, for example, and it's not maybe what you think it is. It does have a splash of pink.

JJ: Yeah, let's get into it.

Megan: Welcome, welcome, welcome, everyone. We're back, slipping it in with you, bringing you that unhinged brunch conversation about, well, nothing and everything all at once, uh, that you just can't stop listening to for some reason. I'm Megan and I'm here with Matty and JJ. Hi, guys. Hi.

Matty: How's everyone doing?

Megan: Really good.

Matty: Nice. We had some exciting times recently that we can chat through.

Megan: Absolutely.

Matty: I think we're gonna get into some really cool topics centered on Detroit, and we'll talk about like with the season changes, there's some trends popping, some good stuff to talk through. But I have to tell you guys, we did get a response from Melissa.

Megan: Oh wow.

Matty: Official statement. Official statement from Melissa. For the listeners who may not be caught up on the episodes, the last two episodes, there was a little bit of a storyline or an arc, if you will, in which two episodes ago, Melissa did share with us that her story when we were giving uh honoring Dolly Parton, that she had met Dolly when she was a young girl, and we all were emotionally invested and amazed by the story. And then come to find out, if you listen to the episode, you'll see how that story unravels basically. And memory did not serve her well. Very true. Um, and she came to terms with it, or I thought she had come to terms with it, and we were moving on. Um, but I did get an official statement from her today that I'd like to read to you both. And to our listeners, because she addresses all of us, including our slippers. And it goes, it goes a little something like this to all the worldwide listeners of Slip It In who felt scammed, parentheses JJ.

JJ: Oh you gotta call out. I mean, I love the fact that I'm worldwide.

Matty: Yeah, lied to, misled, or otherwise, I apologize. My story of meeting Dolly Parton as a five-year-old girl was my truth. In my memory, I met Dolly with my dad on the Lowell Showboat. There was no intention to present a story that wasn't true. Matty, Megan, and JJ providing me with the truth of the matter was both hurtful and eye-opening. False memories are real. Knowing that Dolly was actually Tammy Wynette, parentheses, uh R. I P Tammy, is hard for me to come to terms with, but I'm working through it. I've made plenty of mistakes in my life, but I beg you, my children, and my slipper fans for your forgiveness. Here's the doozy. I want to thank Megan for her support of my memory and how the confusion wasn't that hard to believe given Dolly and Tammy's similarities.

Megan: Exactly.

Matty: I support that. To Matty and JJ, who felt bamboozled, all I can say is showing the same loving support for me that Megan did would have been appreciated. Oh, yeah. Wow. Cutthroat.

JJ: I mean, I think I love I show some love and support. I believe I did too. Yeah.

Megan: I think you guys kind of threw her under the bus.

JJ: I was scammed. So and that is my truth.

Megan: Okay. Well, her truth is that she met Dolly Parton.

Matty: I have both can be true. But I speaking of both can be true. I feel like we all have receipts in our phone of how quickly, Megan, when you learned there could be a scandal upon us, you got into the research and we're calling her out left and right.

Megan: 100%. I don't think, I don't think that's wrong. I can still say you I understand how her memory was meeting Dolly because Tammy and Dolly looked very similar. I mean, it's sad to say we've lost these big blonde bombshell country singers from the 70s.

JJ: And also, Melissa, I was completely out of the back and forth that's true next morning. So I was really not even involved with the back and forth with it.

Matty: Well, and I'm just gonna go on the record and say that I too believe in false memories. I mean, if somebody who's if that's your truth and that's what you remember, I don't think she was out to like pull the wool over our eyes per se. Um, but you know, we just we bring the truth, and I sometimes get it wrong as well, as slippers know. And in any case, she did sign her letter, yours, Melissa, slip it in five timers club. Just still, yeah. Wow. She's still working. She might be five and done, but it could be, well.

JJ: Five and done.

Megan: Well, I support her returning.

JJ: Okay.

Megan: Yeah.

Matty: She goes because she's I know she's just gonna milk it.

JJ: Spotlight is right there. Well, I don't know if I'm more upset about the statement of Megan being like the shining star in this one.

Megan: I think I am the shining star, always.

Matty: I don't know. It feels like Melissa might have brought a few more untruths to this.

Megan: Do I have a thought?

Matty: I don't think so. We can we probably need to dun and dust this topic.

Megan: Dolly Kate is officially closed.

JJ: Dolly Kate. Dolly Kate. Yeah.

Megan: It's done and over.

JJ: Dusted. We did have an amazing experience um a couple days ago.

Megan: Yes. It was awesome.

JJ: We were able to experience, fully experience Cosm Detroit.

Megan: Yes. And for anyone who doesn't know what Cosm is, it's a new entertainment venue sweeping the country, essentially. There's three others besides the one in Detroit. They have a Cosm in Los Angeles, Dallas, and Atlanta.

Matty: Is that sweeping? That's sweeping the country.

JJ: Well, Detroit just the concept of it.

Megan: Yeah, and Detroit just opened, and now they're about to open one in Cleveland.

Matty: Just asking. I'm just asking. I'm just sweeping the nation. I think it will sweep.

Megan: From West Coast to East Coast. They're now in the Midwest. I'm happy. Detroit beat out Cleveland to be the first in the Midwest to have a Cosm. Yes.

Matty: And Ohio's big on their sport, so I can see why that's. Exactly.

Megan: As is Detroit.

Matty: Yes.

Megan: So what Cosm is it's this huge 87-foot dome screen that makes it feel like you're sitting in the other half of a stadium where there's a live event being held.

JJ: I call it a mini sphere. Like from like Vegas. Yes, it does. It is like a mini version of it.

Matty: Well, I went to the sphere to see Wizard of Oz.

JJ: And you had a similar experience.

Matty: Yeah. I mean, I I hate to even say this. I almost felt more immersed in Caza because that's the sphere was I know the well, the sphere, you know, is a full thing. Yeah. This felt like kind of the half part, but like I, you know, like imagine a stadium, a tennis stadium, and or any stadium that goes all the way around the sporting event. It felt like we were on the very end of it. The other half of the stadium. So I kind of a half sphere puts you like right in there, it felt like exactly.

Megan: And so that's one half of the venue. The other half of the venue is sort of like a sports bar on steroids with extra, extra large screens, like and like 20 of them that you can sit stadium style to view all these screens where they host uh or show lots of the same event that they're showing in the main screen, but also other sporting events and things that are going on.

JJ: That's what they call the hall. The hall, correct. And then the whole, like the I mean, use that 20. I think that there were more than 20 of every single size.

Megan: Yes.

JJ: It's really like kind of overwhelming to see all that because it's a lot going on.

Matty: That section. And then there's also another section kind of where it's just like sofas and chairs and loungers. So there's the stadium seating that you talked about it that's like in the hall that JJ mentioned, all that's all one area, and then there's this other area, and there's three floors. I mean, you can get lost in there. I was walking around to you when I went to use the restroom, and I found other little nooks and crannies where they put in like five little table, tall tables, and it's just this one little angle in which you can see it.

JJ: And that was they were able to see the dome, the part of the dome, from that side. Yeah. It was pretty much.

Megan: And what's really cool is um when you take pictures, it actually looks like you're at the event live.

Matty: 100%.

Megan: Yes.

Matty: I posted a couple and I didn't I didn't put a location. I didn't tag Arthur Ashee Stadium or Flushing Meadows. I just I yeah, but that seems a little, I don't know.

JJ: I just thought, well, I'll put it out there and see what people I just love the fact that we got tickets and the kind of it felt like the suite section. Yes. And I again, I don't know if this was intentional or not, but really the screen was showing the suite at the same level that we were at, exactly. Which was a dream for Megan because she really felt that she was with the celebrity box.

Matty: She was peeking around constantly to see who was in the boxes.

Megan: I was monitoring the sweet boxes all around. I was monitoring everyone's outfits because you know it's a predominantly New Yorkers, which are always usually on the the uh first on the the fashion trend. So I was monitoring everyone's outfits and looking for celebrities. And in fact, the earlier match had Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. They were both there with their wives, and then the later match, we had Ben Stiller there and Chelsea Handler. Yeah.

JJ: Oh yeah.

Megan: There's a lot of Woody Harrelson and the three pm.

JJ: Sorry. It was a moment that Megan is trying to capture a picture of Matthew McConaughey and Woody, and she's like, I cannot see them. And then all of a sudden she's like, you know what? They probably are in our area.

Megan: Yes, they're in our suite area, I think, because they don't want people at Pasms monitoring the celebs up close and personal. Because I was my had a keen eye on those suites always of what was going on.

JJ: They were in the celeb box, I'll tell you that.

Matty: Yes. So we went to the three o'clock match, and then we stayed through to the what was it, seven o'clock match? And we had tickets in this suite area to what you guys are saying, and it felt like we were in the suite box. But then we just had general admission tickets for the second part. Um, and so the general admission you can be on any level, but you're in certain areas, and if you're seated, maybe you don't in those areas you don't have a great view, but you can stand and see the view. And and that was $11 to general admission. 11 bucks.

Megan: Well, and let me add this to the story. bought the $11 general admission tickets, and I was like, I don't know, I might need to just leave when our match is done, the 3 p.m. ends. So we just stayed at the bar that's behind all the seats for the dome and had drinks, and no one kicked us out.

Matty: We were anticipating someone saying, folks, we're we cleared you to this so we can reset.

JJ: Because we were instructed that they we were going to be clear before the next event will come on, come we're coming in with by 7 p.m.

Megan: They did not do that. Now, maybe in the future they will, but maybe not. I don't know. Or maybe they'll just say, Do you have a ticket and look at your own?

JJ: We might do a wristband or something, I feel like in time it'll get changed.

Matty: We didn't really even have to pay that $11. They did give me a they printed the ticket.

JJ: They did a ticket.

Matty: Oh god.

JJ: And I can I come clean in something too? Like when we were planning on this, I am a big, so is Matty and Megan, big tennis fans.

Megan: Yes.

JJ: And I was planning on watching Ben Shelton's and uh Tiafoe's match, regardless of it. But my immediate reaction was like I told them, I said, I'm committed to the 3 p.m. I am not planning to be four plus hours at the chosen.

Matty: Right.

JJ: We spend nine hours, and I was very excited, Jay.

Matty: We were doing the math. We were there nine hours.

Megan: Well, what's crazy?

Matty: We knew all the staff.

Megan: We were you were not the most excited to begin with about the event. And then as soon as we were there, within five minutes, JJ's like, we gotta come here for every sporting event and watch it. Because it is it is amazing.

JJ: It was amazing. I I mean the pictures I got, like I'm like, I'm really at the US Open. Like, I there was a moment at the 7 p.m. match that um Matty and I were talking about. I was like, well, it's getting late. I'm sure that people are going to be clearing up those chairs, which we actually took advantage of. But there were in we were in between sets and people were at the screen moving because that's the time that you get your snacks and your drinks. And also at the Cosm. So there was, I was looking at Matty. I was like, is it here or is it there? It's like it was so weird.

Matty: I kept saying it a lot because it's not just that it looks like it on photos, it feels like it when you're there. Like it, you have these surreal moments where you're like, like, that's Ben Shelton picking up a tennis ball right near where I'm seated. Yes. But he's not there, but he doesn't, it doesn't look fake. It doesn't look like not at all. It doesn't look like you're watching a m a movie. I just it's really hard to say because you it's a blurred reality. It is what you are feeling.

Megan: Amazing. And I think, Matty, you said at one point when we were there, like this is the future of watching large venue sporting events or any other events.

JJ: Harry Styles is doing LA concerts.

Megan: That's gonna be pretty amazing.

Matty: I mean the football fans are gonna lose their minds with this option. And also we were talking, JJ, too. It's you know, there's certain events that when they happen, you're like, I wish I could be there live. Yes. U.S. Open semifinals is one of them. 100%. But like a Super Bowl, going to the Super Meet or a playoff game if your team's in it, or like Michigan, Michigan State game.

JJ: Like here, all of a sudden a Michigan, Michigan state there.

Matty: And all of a sudden you have this alternative. Like it no longer has to be like on my big screen at the big screen I call my big screen at home, or going to a bar on one end of the spectrum and then paying a thousand dollars or whatever on the other end to see it live. There's this in-between now that gives you a whole different option that never existed.

JJ: And I'm gonna keep it real. There was some a little some glitches on the 3 p.m. match. Well, they but they fixed it right away. They were um and so at the 7 p.m. there was nothing. There was none. It was smooth, it was perfect. The staff was very, very friendly. Yes. Um Greg and Tony.

Megan: There we go.

JJ: Yeah, they were like very friendly. They were they immediately put polka dots.

Megan: I was wearing a polka dot dress. I dressed as if I was truly going to the U.S. Open live. So I had a a polka dot dress on and a little sweater over my shoulders. There was so the And I was called polka dots by the waiter.

JJ: There were some polka dots on the audience at the US Open as well. So you were on trend.

Megan: As usual.

Matty: The waiter who had our section complimented you. I love, ma'am, I have to say, I love your dress. And then he goes, you know what I put you on in my little handheld thing to keep your seats straight? I put you down as polka dots. I know for my orders. You also had a little buddy on your other side. He was alone. Yep. And he was right. Fella? Fella. A fella.

Megan: Yes, he was very into the tennis. He was. But he was very nice.

Matty: Maybe a little into you as well. Like at moments you two are on a date.

JJ: A beautiful blonde on a U.S. Open Day with a polka dots. A little preppy looking at the stuff.

Matty: I will say, in hindsight, um, and if you all are gonna go to your cosm when it opens and you're gonna try to pull any shenanigans with whether or not like you jump seats or stick around for vent two, whatever, polka dots might not be your best choice because it is very recognizable. And when we moved around, we're gonna I was like, oh no, they're gonna remember polka dots.

JJ: But it didn't know and she might still on the system as polka dots. She might, she probably is still in the system.

Megan: on. So the tickets vary in price based on events. So the 3 p.m. US Open tickets were cheaper than the 7 p.m. tickets.

JJ: Prime time.

Megan: Yes. But tickets for the US Open semifinals started around like $38 to $50, which seems a lot for a seat. But I want to add, every seat you buy in the dome, you have a $25 food and drink credit. So even those For now that we know of. Yeah, we'll see. I don't know if the other venues that have been open while still have that or if that's something new to entice people to get used to the prices. Some of the like at the 7 p.m., I think they were charging like $150, $180 for the front row rows in the dome. And they obviously go down from there the further away you are. But there's some great seats on the side that I'd highly recommend. Um also, I'll add all of the Lions games that have times and stuff that they're playing at Cosm are already all sold out. So people are on to this and are like running to get there for the various events. And I'm so bummed because they didn't show any of the US Open finals because they're over the weekend and there is uh all the they're doing college football games and NFL games on the Saturday and Sunday. So we kind of lost out on other tennis U.S. Open experiences.

Matty: I thought you were gonna say you were disappointed because there was no Honey Deuce.

Megan: Oh well, that was a little bait and swinging. It's about to happen.

Matty: What is?

Megan: I well, I wasn't done with all my comments. Oh well, well, okay.

Matty: Bring your disappointment.

Megan: Was more than a little disappointed. There was all sorts of social media advertisements that I was seeing about Cosm Detroit being open and that you could go see the U.S. Open. And they were showing people with the Honey Deuce. And if you're not familiar with Honey Deuce, it is the drink of the U.S. Open.

JJ: I don't signature drink.

Megan: Yeah. And I think it might have premiered maybe last year, maybe two years ago. I mean, and it was so popular, they brought it back. It's basically kind of like um a vodka lemonade and Chambord with uh three frozen uh melon balls, cantaloupe melon balls, so they'll look like tennis balls in the drink. I didn't make that connection.

Matty: That's cute.

Megan: Oh, you didn't? No, I didn't let Yeah, there's look like tennis balls. That's because of the color.

Matty: Because you could get two serves. There's a big two balls.

Megan: Well, it's three, I think. I think they serve it with three.

Matty: I can't remember because I haven't had it. Listen, listen. No, the Honey Deuce.

Megan: I'm not talking the tennis world.

Matty: No, I don't have three serves.

Megan: Yeah. But so I was super excited because they were showing all these advertisements at Cosm that you can get your Honey Deuce while you watch the US Open. And we arrived. I immediately said, I don't see Honey Deuce on the menu. I would like a Honey Deuce. And I was told no Honey Deuce.

JJ: You didn't have the ingredients.

Megan: Our deliveries didn't come in in time. Yeah. So I was devastated.

JJ: Yeah. So we had a great experience, though.

Megan: Well, there were also a few other items. I ordered three drinks that they did not have two were on the menu. They were not able to serve them to me. So I had several disappointments.

Matty: But overall.

Megan: Overall, I loved it. I still highly recommend it.

Matty: Yeah.

Megan: I would go honestly to any sporting event, if it was at the Cosm, I'm there. I don't even care if I'm into that sport. I would go because it's just a fun experience.

Matty: By the end, JJ and I were like fifth row. Yeah. Right at the I mean right when it wrapped up.

JJ: I could feel the sweat and like it was a lot. Yeah.

Matty: So I would dare say the Cosm is trending. Yes, 100%. I think at the beginning I also said we were going to talk some seasonal trends. We're going to kind of bat around some of our trends that we've heard about recently. I can kick us off. Pinterest recently, this week, actually, um, I think the 9th, I believe, of September released the, yeah. Okay, thank you for because sometimes they get my fans out. Yeah, September 9th. September 9th, they released their um men's Pinterest board trends for this season. I are you guys on Pinterest? I'm not. I'm not. I mean, I will.

JJ: I consider myself. Crafty, but I've never been into Prince Res at all.

Matty: Yeah, I don't know. I tried at one point, but this it's really like I which you would think, because I'm a virtual, you know, I have my board. Yeah. My bulletin board. And it's very similar to that where you pull things onto your board. Right. Right, right. Well, anyway, so I guess some men are there's a lot of um activity with huge increases on how some men are using Pinterest. And when they say huge, I don't know. I can't put that into perspective because I don't know how many are using it in the beginning. It's like when they say there's a 148% increase, does that mean they jump from two to six? I don't know.

Megan: But yeah, it seems like a much girlier thing.

JJ: Pinterest, 100%.

Megan: Yes. Like it's shocking that I would find it shocking that any men were using it. Maybe some of the gays.

Matty: So anyway, the one of the trends, and there are several, and you should check it out. It's pretty interesting. I found very very many of them quite interesting. And one is work wear wardrobe, which spoke to me because my aesthetic, I feel at this stage in my life, I kind of gravitate towards that. Not all the time. And you guys could poke holes in it and find outfits that don't track with that, but I'm typically attracted to this, which is it's like um more, I don't know, like an industrial feel or um like uh well, let me read it to you. I thought you were more into poet, poet trending, didn't you? Yeah, that one's last season.

Megan: Workware. I'm convinced.

Matty: I feel like this is so into it. This is adjacent. The work is like work wear.

Megan: I thought you meant like what you would wear to an office. You're meaning more like construction workwear.

Matty: Well, kind of, like lumberjack. Yeah, like yeah, like an adventure structure jacket. Like okay, so here I'm gonna read it. Men are building a new kind of uniform for the international man, part field jacket, part chore coat with workwear outfit men up 314%, and pink shirt outfit men aesthetic up 338%. So what they're saying is in this particular trend, that some they're going with this look in which they're wearing like a French chorecoat, a retro trainer jacket, trucker hats, um vintage work wear, but then they'll take one piece of their outfit and do like a pop of pink, for example, which I'm like, that's very cool. And we did see Tiafoe. Frances Tiafoe was wearing some hot pink. I loved it, and it's up 314%, but to your point, could be the gays. I don't know. But they also said that I have seen it on TikTok.

JJ: That's Randall.

Matty: Wearing one of these outfits signals a read instantly in photos and in real life, like a weathered look, Megan. I have to say this. We had this conversation when we were in a different realm about the guy with the sweater over his shoulders, the cardigan. Oh, yeah. Along the lines of an instant read, like and we you and I were having that conversation of I love a cardigan over the shoulder. And there was a guy there that had uh a white sweater vest that to me read dragging a little bit, but yeah. Read like nautical. Dragon? Like a dragging.

Megan: Dragging, dragging, not dragging, dragging, like long, oh long, okay, just an elongated sweater. But it was clearly kind of it was cable knit and it had stripes on it. It was clearly the very nautical, very tennis, very uh country club-esque.

Matty: The conversation we had is that if you want to send a signal to somebody based on your outfits, you can make specific choices. And a choice, like I automatically put them both in the yachting club. Megan had it over her shoulder. Like, you know how you take a sweat sweater, put it over your shoulders, and tie it. To me, that is very signaling prestige. I like boating. I'm very preppy. I'm I'm I went to a certain type of school.

Megan: No, I have to stop you there. It is honestly a matter of convenience because I typically get very cold in venues that have AC on. So when it's super hot out in the summer and I have a summer dress on that's short sleeves and short skirt, I know I'm gonna get cold in an air-conditioned venue. So I tie it over my shoulders.

Matty: Okay, I'm gonna stop you there because yes, because this you are talking about yourself, and I am talking larger population.

Megan: I think most people are doing it to have to wear later.

Matty: I disagree as well. If you go to Connecticut, for example, gravity stores, regardless of the weather conditions. Correct. I agree. You also say I like when people think those things about me. You said that to me at the event.

Megan: But that's not the vibe I'm going for.

Matty: unknown: Okay.

Megan: I don't tie it around my waist because typically it will kind of balloon and make you look a little chunky and heavy. So I do it over the shoulder. And that's actually a more trending look. A lot of the Real Housewives, especially Real Housewives of Atlanta, are wearing around the shoulder. And there's a whole tie half around. So it's over one shoulder and off the other shoulder.

Matty: Well, I mean, I think we can all agree. And in any way, anything around fashion is quite subjective, but I think that we it's a form of self-expression. So anyway, this work wear wardrobe. I'm into, I guess, is what I'm trying to do. I'm into it too. I like it. I'm gonna do a little, I'm gonna maybe get on Pinterest and check out these boards. I did look up, I didn't even know what a French chore coat was, but I'm like, oh, I get it. I like it. Yeah.

Megan: Well, and maybe we'll have to create a slip it in Pinterest board.

JJ: Probably that sounds like work. Yeah, sounds like something that she would do.

Megan: Well, I do love a man in pink, and the doctor is anti-pink. He refuses to wear it.

JJ: Really?

Megan: And I love a man in a pink shirt. I think they look really great.

JJ: Can I just say this is probably not like a more of like a sentimental emotional story? When I was growing up, I was like four years old, so I would never remember, I would never forget that. Um, I my mom bought me this shorts, and my mom and I, we would have uh short shorts. They were short shirts. We had a very like very close connection, and she said to me, Which kind of shirt do you want to pair like to come like match it with the shorts? And I said, I think I want a pink shirt.

Megan: Oh, she knew that. Ding ding ding ding ding exactly.

JJ: And my dad said, No.

Megan: Yeah.

JJ: This is I mean, again, Latin America.

Megan: Yes, I get it.

JJ: He said no. So she I was I I immediately my face like changed. She went to my room and it's like, you're getting that pink shirt.

Megan: Oh, I love that. Yeah. Yeah. So I'm I'm moms always know.

Matty: Yeah, she does. Well, I don't think I have a bright pink shirt, but I'm gonna get one and I'm gonna work it into uh I'm gonna work it into uh peekaboo pink.

Megan: I think you can do a baby, it doesn't have to be hot pink.

Matty: Well, I kind of feel like I want that.

JJ: Is that gonna be a thing? Hot pink or baby pink? Is that baby pink? I like all pinks or is it hot pink?

Megan: I like all pinks. I will say I think going off of that, when I was scanning the US Open, uh Neon is coming back.

JJ: Yes, it is.

Megan: A lot of highlighter later, yes. There are a lot of neon colors at the US Open. So I'm kind of excited. I've got a few neon colored items that I almost was about to back out. Love it.

JJ: Oh, since we're talking about fashion, one trend that I think that we I think I've seen it, and Matty and I went to New York and saw it more. It is men wearing a tote bag.

Megan: Oh, oh, yeah.

JJ: It is and it is so it I mean, one thing that I saw, it was like actually the GQ magazine called it, now it has it as a category, like a men's tote bag, and men are going into it. Matty, we saw it on um New York. Men were like really just using a tote bag everywhere we went. Yes. I actually kind of contribute that to like some grocery stores like Trader Joe's, started to do the whole trend about the bag. So make it I think that it made it comfortable and easy and like kind of acceptable for like men just to wear the little tote bag, and then from that it could it kind of did a good transition into kind of creating that.

Matty: I also I don't know if this is true, but like in New York where you're shopping at bodegas and stuff, I could see it being something you know it started in New York. I mean, a lot of men were like, listen, it's a this is about convenience in the beginning, but now it just I don't know. So I uh JJ got me a tote and I Yeah, I did. I love it. Can I say something real quick? Because as podcasters, sometimes we're the only ones in on the joke. But when we said highlighter lady earlier, I just want to, for the listeners, mention that that highlighter lady was wearing a neon yellow shirt, walking around with her hair in an almost side pony. Yes, tipsy tipsy tipsy at the US Open. I mean at Cosm, but at the Cosm US Open. But so I just wanted to point that out and then go back to your bags, JJ. I um I think that a hot pink one would be maybe my pop.

Megan: No, I'm not sure I'd go that far. Uh I wouldn't.

Matty: You wouldn't hot pink?

Megan: I would keep your work pink.

JJ: Yes. So compliments whatever your work the work wear. Work wear.

Matty: Oh, work wear, yeah.

JJ: So I think a work wear with a little tote, a cute tote that is not a big accent, but just a little complimentary to what about it like an L.L.Bean tote, and I get my initials in hot pink.

Megan: That's fine.

JJ: What about that?

Megan: I support L.L.Bean totes in all function and form, they're amazing.

JJ: Yeah. I mean, even Vogue said that um on the 2026 summer runway shows, tote bags for all men, like fashion. Yep. All about totally. Totally.

Matty: I'm totally in on that trail.

JJ: So yeah, get that tote.

Matty: it.

Megan: Well, I think I can transition us to some little drops that are coming.

Matty: Oh.

Megan: So it is now getting into the fall season. So look out. Dropping September 18th exclusively at Walgreens. Snickers, banana nut bread.

JJ: Oh.

Megan: I'm not sure about this.

JJ: It's kind of reminds me of the banana bread uh cold foam from Starbucks. Yes. Which I love.

Matty: Yes, you love it. What was it you love? The banana bread?

JJ: The banana bread um shy coal foam from the shy. I I usually get it in the shy latte from Starbucks. It really tastes like banana bread.

Matty: unknown: Absolutely.

JJ: So I I mean, I'm a big sneakers fan. I will try it.

Megan: I'll try it, but I feel like I'm not gonna like it.

Matty: I'm just kind of getting over all of the smash-ups. It's just insane.

Megan: I agree.

JJ: I just don't I'll I'll try it once.

Matty: I mean, yeah. I'll try them all once.

JJ: No, but like that's why she's in a snack leader.

Matty: I again I brought this up, I think, in a previous episode, but I just wonder how much of an investment and everything goes into like these limited edition things. And I know that they hope the hope is one of them that they release becomes so popular it it develops into a constant brand. But boy, I feel like we're probably we're the ones probably paying for it in terms of like they got to recoup their costs. And I'm just like, do we need banana bread OREO cookie Snickers or whatever?

Megan: I agree, but I think it drives sales because honestly, I don't really buy a Snickers, so but I might go out and buy the Snickers banana nut bread just to taste it. Yeah, that's a good point. Yeah, I like it.

JJ: If I were to go, I think that's probably one of my favorite candy bars, Snickers, really especially if it's a Snickers ice cream.

Megan: Oh, I like a Snickers ice cream, but I love a frozen Snickers. I was just gonna well, that's what that's a frozen Snickers.

JJ: A frozen, yeah.

Matty: Well, that's the thing. When you put it in the ice cream, and that's delish.

Megan: Well, also, if you're having a Halloween-themed party or looking for Halloween Halloween-themed items, OREO has come out with a fudge covered monster cookies, and they are super cute. They have four monster themed designs. I haven't seen them in stores yet, but if you find them and are having something Halloween related and need a cute cookie, you want to might want to buy them because I think they're gonna go quick when they start showing up on shelves.

JJ: I could see them like on a plate.

Megan: Yeah, they were super, they like look super cute. I don't know how they taste, but they just in my mind would be a great aesthetic for a Halloween themed party.

JJ: I would add it in a little corner of my circuterie board if I'm hosting.

Megan: Perfect. You your charcuterie boards look great.

JJ: And on the pinch.

Matty: Oh, I think it was higher than that. Really? I thought it was in the 300s. Really? Yeah, I'm gonna fact check it.

Megan: And I think a cute, unexpected item on a charcuterie board is always makes you go, wow. Yeah, yeah.

JJ: I always try to find an unexpected one that people are like, JJ, what is this new thing about? And I love it.

Megan: And I'm the first. And I'm always if I see a charcuterie board and it's got some interesting, cool thing I've never seen before, immediately I'm like, oh my god, this is Matty and Megan know that I love a good charcuterie board. Well, and yours are amazing. You make amazing.

Matty: Well, when I saw this stat, I kind of felt like, um, okay, people, my friend has been on this trend for a very long time. And I wish I could find it, but it was 300 and some percent of JJ. So like I think you are a trailblazer in the charcuterie. You could be a charcut uh charcut influencer.

Megan: Oh you very well could be. Yes. Charcut it up 100%.

Matty: Oh. Okay, we're gonna transition now into a product, and um it also could double as a pull it out. Oh, which is interesting, right?

JJ: Wow, what you were endorsing a product and there's a pull it out, which is something that we don't like, yeah. Typically, yeah, right.

Matty: A pull it out is something we don't like, and a product is something, although we have done some surprise. Yeah, none of us have tasted this. Let's taste it. And maybe we didn't like it.

JJ: Okay.

Matty: But I like this product, but there's a pull it out component to it. Adjacent. Adjacent. Okay. Anyway, here is the product. It's called uh Owen, I think is how you pronounce it. Owen, um it's a protein shake, okay, is what it is. But this one that I like is the chocolate flavor. And how many grams? 30 grams, 30 grams of protein. Um, it's got all the things you're looking for, and it's all the things you don't. And this may bore some people, but if you're looking to buy it and you have some dietary restrictions, I'm gonna just rattle this off real quick. Okay. So there's zero net carbs, it's non-GMO, it's gluten-free, it's vegan-free, it's dairy-free, it is um top nine allergen friendly, it's a hundred percent plant-based. Um, it's got all the essential amino acids, 300 milligrams of omega-3s, it's got prebiotic fiber, three grams, and um superfoods green blends are in this. I mean, I mean, and so this that is uh what is this ounce? 11.15 ounces, fluid ounces, and didn't we say fluid ounces in the past? Fluid ounces, and um this is I did, I did. Don't don't have food.

Megan: I just had because they asked you and I had to give ourselves a look.

Matty: That was enough. Well, I mean, it was triggering when I said fluid. I mean okay, well, and this is 200 calories. No, I don't know.

JJ: Some people might 200 is that's high. Right, mine is a hundred. How much sugar? No cero sugar, zero sugar.

Megan: Yeah, but sometimes zero sugar means it has those fake sugars in it that are worse than real sugar.

Matty: I hear you on that, but this says total sugars, uh zero, including zero grams of added sugar. So both categories that you need to be looking at are zero. And 30 grams of protein. And 30 grams of protein. And I get this at um either BJ's or Costco, but I mean, obviously they carry it multiple places, but I get it in the bulk.

Megan: And this is chocolate? This is what we're tasting.

Matty: Oh, yeah, we have the taste in our little cute little taster. Okay. Here's I I now I want to personalize this and why I like it. I like it because I got into coffee and I use I put this in my coffee and it tempers the I will say it's better cold, and this has gotten a little warm sitting here from Megan's face as a bullet out right now. You don't like that? Kind of a slip it in. You don't like it? Not at all. Not at all.

Megan: I mean, and I drink a protein shake every day that I buy from Costco that is chocolate, Premier Protein. Okay. Well, to each their own. Yeah. Have you tried the Premier Protein?

Matty: I'm gonna with always we're gonna stick with this. And I like it, and I put it in my coffee, and I also like it because I love chocolate milk, but can't I don't drink it because it's for all the reasons. But this sometimes I'll just reach in and grab a little sip. Now, I also don't drink a full one of these at 200 calories. I parse it over three cups of coffee Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, exactly.

JJ: So you really don't get the 30 grams of protein a day.

Matty: No, but I do put a protein powder in my coffee as well. So I'm covered that way. And this helps with the tempering of the coffee flavor because I don't like my coffee strong. Those are all the things I love. One of the things that it says on here is to um shake vigorously, it says. Shake vigorously before using. Here's where my pull it out come to. Oh, okay. I was in the middle of doing my coffee routine and I had a scheduled air conditioning inspection. I literally my doorbell rang. I set this down on the counter and I went and let the air conditioner guy come in. Yeah, he did his business. I went back to finish my coffee routine and I did what? Shake vigorously, but I had already taken the top off of the what this is not good at is all over your fucking kitchen. I can imagine. I took this thing, I took this thing. This is and I went, I had this over it was on my cupboards, it was on the fridge, obviously all over the floor, and I'm like, oh my god, no, did I just do that? Yeah, so my my advice to people is make sure you caps on before you shake vigorously.

Megan: Oh my god, I love it.

JJ: I do have to say that I think I've tried it whenever we travel. Sometimes I go into like to Matty and say, hey, can I just get a little bit?

Matty: Yeah.

JJ: Because I do like a little creamer on my coffee, and I do like the idea of this using it as a creamer. That is how I liked it by itself. You're not a big fan.

Megan: It's got that chalky taste, and that's when I traditionally like my doctor's like, you need to have more protein, and I was trying to incorporate protein in my life, getting more of it every day. I was like, I can't do these protein shakes. So, because they have that weird chalkiness, and that's what this has. So thanks for bringing it with us.

Matty: I think there's I think protein shakes are a great option for people, and you do you, boo. You find it. You find what you like and you do it. 100%. Just make sure you're getting your protein.

JJ: All right.

Matty: And with that, what are we gonna do?

JJ: Time for slip it in. We are gonna pull it out.

Matty: And slip it ins are things we like, and pull it out is when you shake your protein shake all over your kitchen. Yeah, I'm gonna start live.

JJ: I'm gonna start my slip it in. I think I mentioned this last night with Matty. I really, really enjoy a sporty gay. Oh you wear.

Megan: Now, what's your definition of a sporty gay?

JJ: A gay, a guy that loves the sports, the watch. He's like, he's on the games. He is um usually masculine forward. Well, I would say. Uh other But at least I just like into like watching like a tennis match or like let's just like play some pickleball, a football game and just wears the jerseys, and it's just so fucking hot.

Megan: I love it.

JJ: I am just turned on right now.

Megan: Let me ask you were you turned on by those sporty gays at Cosm that had their shoes off during the match?

JJ: No, it wasn't.

Megan: But that's what prompted. That was the top of the conversation.

JJ: Oh, yeah. Because when he walked up, he had the jersey for the Lions, and I'm like, and we recognized that they were part of the family.

Matty: Oh, okay. Well, can I just jump in?

JJ: Yeah.

Matty: I'm sorry, but like we we kind of suspected, but at one point, because we were seated right behind them, the We're monitoring those phone screens. Um leaned forward, and all of a sudden his guy friend, man friend next to him reached over and was like in the back, and we're like, whoa, staking his claim because he knew you gays were trying to get on his gay.

JJ: Yeah. I know I just love it. It's a protective mode. Probably.

Megan: I've done that when I see girls looking at the doctor.

JJ: You're like immediately going.

Megan: I stake my claim, as you should.

JJ: So yeah, I just love, I love sporty gays.

Matty: I do too. I'm more into that kind of gay. Like, I mean, he could be wearing the workman’s wear. Like, I mean, he could be wearing the workman’s wear.

JJ: He could be. He could be. He can even be wearing a little tote with it.

Matty: Yeah. Yeah, with a splash of pink.

JJ: On the way to watch a Lions game. I'm so you just created my dream. I'm so in. My pull it out, and I think I've mentioned this before. I typically I'm not a big fan of an update when we talked about an update.

Matty: Yeah.

JJ: But it is my turn, my time to come clean about something.

Matty: Okay.

JJ: And it's something that I've mentioned before. Um, Miley Cyrus new song. It is not called Bass Persuades.

Matty: Oh, really?

JJ: It is called Bass Persuades. It is just happened that um my little friends says corrected me, and I was very adamant about no, it's bass because that's the way she said it to me. But it's not. So I just didn't correct it.

Matty: And it's spelled the same. It is spelled the same.

JJ: Um, but I And I sometimes get a little bit defensive when Matty or Megan want to correct my grammar because I English is not my first language, so I get defensive of that. So I take that.

Matty: Well, since I'm involved in the story, yeah, I'll just say if you do listen back to the last episode, I threw out the possibility that it could be bass and I moved on. I let it just simmer and sit. And so um I just thought, well, if it's about music, it could be more bass than bass, because bass is more fish and bass is more music.

JJ: Yeah, but when I listened to the episode, I was like, you're wrong.

Matty: Oh, well, I mean, I'm and now you love an update.

JJ: So the update, it's still a pull it out. Oh, it's still a pull-out. I am admitting to it. It is a pull out, it's still a pull out. Yeah, update. Yes, 100%.

Megan: I still love an update.

JJ: I know you do it. And I think the listeners do too.

Matty: We have a lot of things that are through lines that have to be in totally fine. That is on brand.

JJ: That is officially a pullout, and it will continue to be a pull out.

Matty: I still love the song.

JJ: Yeah.

Matty: Even more.

Megan: Love it. All right. Well, I can go with my slip it in. It is dun dun dun. The new foldable iPhone was revealed. The iPhone Duo. I'm super excited. It's everything I hoped it would be and more. So I cannot wait to get my hands on it. The pull it out for me is I cannot order iPhone Duo until October, which means I'm not likely to get it until end of October, early November, which is super disappointing.

JJ: I mean, you've been waiting what, five years? We all have.

Megan: Not quite five years, but really definitely this last year was a I don't want to buy a new iPhone just to pay for another iPhone in the fall. So I've really been waiting this last year, like with Baited Breath.

Matty: I feel like you're, Megan, tell me if I'm wrong, but I feel like your last our last few episodes, your slip it in and pull it out, have been like about the same topic and the thing that makes you happy about it and the thing that is.

JJ: Oh, yeah, it's kind of a double sense of both.

Megan: Lots of feelings. I'm a cancer. We're very emotional.

Matty: It just proves that my mom is a cancer. Uh-oh. It just proves that there's a spectrum. Like there is it's yeah, maybe. Yeah. And I it also proves the phone.

JJ: It also proves that just because we like one thing, it doesn't mean that we like it at all levels.

Megan: Exactly.

JJ: We have a thing that we love and that we hate about the same thing.

Megan: And I feel like Apple loves to play those games. They love to like make a big splash and make a big announcement. Oh, but you want it. No, you're gonna have to wait a couple months. Well, create demand for it. And it does. Yes, and it creates drama.

Matty: Because they uh give people enough time to get out of their contracts, they'll like figure out because now you got two months if you were like thinking about switching carriers to get a deal. Not you particularly, but people I'm a Verizon girl, can't leave it.

JJ: They love to add you in that and give you a blue balls on that.

Matty: Yes. Okay, my slip it in is that we just recently came uh in the I'm trying to phrase this right because it's stick with me, people, because I don't want you guys to think that my slip it in has anything to do with 9-11 in in that way. But like we just passed 9-11 and I was watching some of the coverage around it, and I learned something new 25 years after the event that you still just learn about people's hearts and and kindness and and all of the things related to just um people being you know helpful and loving of their neighbor and people they don't even know. On that particular day when it happened, there was uh a gentleman by the name of Michael, they call him Mikey “Flowers”. He owned a um or he still does, it still operates. There is a flower shop that he has um just blocks from ground zero. And when it happened, he ran out of his store and ran down to help. And then he was like a um EMT, I guess, and he um continued to help for weeks throughout the process. And any anyway, um once the memorial was built, um he decided what he would do is he would take a single white rose and place it uh in the etching of anyone's name who died on their birthday. So he started by putting them out there. It still happens every single day. There is at least one birthday every single day of the year from the people that passed, which is crazy, crazy. And now what he does is he singly selects the flowers and then he turns them over to workers uh at the memorial, and they actually place them. So he's not placing them, but he's single-handedly choosing them and then providing them. And it is, I think it's important to note, there's 2,983 names of people that were killed on September 11th, but it also includes the people that died on February 26, 1993, um, with the that bombing that happened at the World Trade Center. Um, his last name, by the way, is Collarone. I want to make sure I get that right. He's nicknamed is Mikey “Flowers”. Um, and that he owns this um flower shop. And the last thing I'll say is that every time he places them, every single year, the families are offered the opportunity to get a photo from of that placement. So I just think it's just you know human kindness. So that's my slip it in. Um my pull it out is also a little bit of an update, JJ. So I will say this. I am my pull it out was my attempt to to play a meteorologist of some sort on this podcast and bring storm coverage to people. I have to admit, JJ, I told our listeners that both Julio and Dolly would be back next year as storm names because neither of you in this year's appearance were devastating in the terms of a huge amount of devastation and loss of life.

JJ: Impact that had.

Matty: Right. Um so therefore you'd be back next year. Actually, it's every six years. So you and Dolly will be reunited in storm coverage names in different zones. Correct. Be clear about that business. They are not on the same list. Six years from now. Yes. Okay.

Megan: They're not on the same list.

Matty: Sorry, you guys. I'm trying to get my facts right here.
